The heat of the day was quite annoying, but there was at least one consolation. The tall buildings in the area served to create pockets of much needed shade from the mighty orb of ethereal heat that gazed with a cruel generosity on the specks of life scurrying to and fro in an effort to either finish their work underneath Heaven’s glare as quickly as they could, or take respite from the heat. Of these two groups, the pursuer and the quarry on the rooftops of the modern but little Japanese city belonged to the first category. Oblivious to the people going about their days’ jobs, the black, ape-like hollow that called himself Oscuro zigged and zagged from building to building, pursued relentlessly by Sumirebana Meiko, Lieutenant of the 12th Division, running after the hollow as quickly as she could, with not a weapon in hand.
”Hee hee,” mocked the hollow, ”you can’t catch me!”
”We shall see about that…” Meiko mused, as she flung an arm outward, pointing at the fleeing hollow. ”Bakudou #31: Toami!” Her pointed hand opened into a palm, from which flew a ball towards the hollow’s back. On hearing the Lieutenant say something that sounded a bit incoherent, the hollow spun on its heel to look at Meiko, just in time for the wide net to hit it in the face. The hollow sailed a little distance through the air, entangled in the kidou net, before crashing on the roof of a skyscraper. Despite the exertion, Meiko allowed herself a grin. It had been hard enough to track the hollow as it were, and Meiko couldn’t trust Shinigami of other squads to catch it for her, as the last time she asked a Squad 11 guy for a tissue sample of a hollow, he returned with its dried blood on his sword. Well, he couldn’t be blamed for being an unscientific Philistine, but she would not ask anyone to get a tissue sample of this particular hollow. It had a rare ability: creation of localized pockets into which it could hide when in danger. If Meiko could understand the concept of its ability, she could create an easier transporting alternative for Shinigami…
”Nice catch, Mei-chan,” Meiko’s zanpakutou spirit chipped in her head. ”Concrete in a kidou net is quite the research material!” Even if Meiko wanted to upbraid Tenkohaku Gyokuren for being sarcastic, her zanpakutou spirit was right; the hollow wasn’t in the net. As Meiko stared in surprise at the kidou net, which had slowly started to dissipate, Oscuro materialized slowly but silently behind the Shinigami, his jaws opening wide for a bite.

[atrb=border,0,true][bg=eeeeee][atrb=width,500,true]— NOT EVEN THE GROUND CAN KEEP US DOWN. THIS IS NOT THE END. It was a rare day for Mishio. There were no fresh recruits to run through their paces; they had the day off. More importantly, Mishio had a day to not be around them. Were they good shinigami? Yes. Did they still grate on the vice-captain's nerves? Yes. Taking a cue from his Zanpakuto spirit, who insisted on being called Kenny because "My full name is just so long, man...", Mishio had taken the trip to Karakura in the human world. It was sort of a compromise. Mishio got to feel like he was doing something, and Kenny got the day off.
Rather, Akenomyōsei thought he had the day off. As it turned out, right after he had gotten here bright and early to make sure nobody followed him, the Squad 12 Lieutenant arrived on the scene as well, also alone and intent on doing... something. Mishio, curious as to what had a Lieutenant on Earth running around like she had somewhere to be, had cast Bakudo 26 and kept his distance, trying not to attract attention. The girl had been hunting down a Hollow, but it had looked like she could handle it.
Looks weren't everything, though. When the Hollow appeared behind her, Mishio let go of his Kyokkō and leapt forward, stretching out his hand as he passed over the Hollow. "Bakudo 62: Hyapporankan!" It was a handy, quick Kido that fired a red rod that split into multiple rods, shoving the Hollow down on its knees while Mishio landed opposite the creature, drawing his sword. "Well, this is embarrassing, but I seem to have forgotten your name, miss...?" TEMPLATE BY SAMARECARM OF OTE + BTN

* YU ZOSHIMASO ,
Finally, the shark could get some alone time to swim by himself.
It wasn't really your average wake up, get dressed, train lieutenants to newbies, fight baddies, go back to barracks, sleep, and wake up and do everything all over again type of day. Today, or this entire week or month or whatever was different for some reason. Probably because of the invasion of the Arrancar and Hollow and whatnot. Yu only shrugged it off as he didn't really give a care in the world as to what was going on right now. Far as he know, the battle was still going on so he should be out there assisting his fellow captains. He will soon... maybe. He now saw himself going into the Human Realm, or Karakura Town for a little relaxation and vacation. Apparently, even that wasn't enough.
He didn't really think to switch into his human clothing, but it didn't matter to him anyway. His zanpaktou, Jiganytu, chimed a voice inside the shinigami's head; something that Jiganytu rarely did in his sealed form in a long time. ...I smell a hollow here. Jiganytu's voice echoed inside Yu's head. Yu had to keep reminding the zanpaktou spirit, "Your sealed inside of a sword... how can you smell?" Usually Jiganytu would go silent after Yu's words, and that's what he did. But, something didn't feel right. Upon hearing a Bakudo #26 being cast, the captain had little choice but to observe the scene. "It really takes two lieutenants to defeat a mere baby hollow..." Pitiful. Just pitiful.
Yu saw the other lieutenant draw the sword to end the hollow's life and decided to sit back and watch instead of interacting. That hollow could've gotten away from the lieutenant... Jiganytu said once again. Yu did nothing but watched the scene still to see what was going to happen. Bakudo #26 was a supplementary spell, a binding spell to immobilize the opponent. He would only see how this one would be played out.

Meiko thought she sensed two reiatsu signatures in a moment, both behind her. As the raven-haired Shinigami spun on her heel, raising up both hands in a defensive gesture, she saw that the maneuver was unnecessary. The hollow had appeared behind Meiko and was about to attack, but someone else had come (definitely a Shinigami) and restrained the hollow. The Shinigami girl's green eyes opened slightly as the new arrival touched down on the roof and drew his blade. His badge gave him away as the 10th Division Lieutenant, and while Meiko had never met him before, or at that point, any other Lieutenant, since her promotion, someone like Meiko who was given to research could easily remember the names of the Captains and Lieutenants of the Gotei 13. At least this one had a face to the name now. "It's okay, Lieutenant Mabushii. I'm correct about your name, right?" Meiko replied to her fellow Lieutenant's statement as she drew out her own zanpakutou and held it in her left hand. She would not call him by his first name unless he gave her leave to do so. But before anything else could be said or done, the hollow seemed to collapse in on itself and was gone. They heard its voice in the air, a spectral sound: "Hello to you both! I am Oscuro, and I love introduction sessions. I'm sure we'll all get along well." Meiko grimaced, stepping closer to Mishio, so that wherever the hollow appeared, at least one of them would see it. "I was just recently promoted, so I don't suppose we've met. Meiko Sumirebana, 12th Division Lieutenant." She gave a little smile. "Guess I owe you one for the save, but we're far from concluding this topic with our loud-mouthed friend. He's very intelligent, Adjuchas class, with an interesting ability to store himself in a pocket dimension of his own in order to escape danger or sneak on prey."While she spoke, Meiko kept her eyes peeled, scanning for signs of the hollow. She didn't know that another pair of eyes watched the whole show from a hidden vantage point. But that was neither her nor Mishio's concern at the moment. For a black object winked into existence overhead, and with a roar like a freight train, released a wave of pulsating red energy at the roof top on which the two Shinigami stood.

Has ability to enter a pocket dimension to render itself invisible and intangible. If this technique is used 4 times, it requires a 2-post cycle cooldown to use it again. But it has wicked, razor-sharp claws, equally nasty teeth and a prehensile tail. And do not forget its Cero attacks as well!

[atrb=border,0,true][bg=eeeeee][atrb=width,500,true]— NOT EVEN THE GROUND CAN KEEP US DOWN. THIS IS NOT THE END. Mishio nodded as the 12th Squad Lieutenant guessed his name right. [She had to be smart to get the job, so it didn't surprise him that she'd learned his name without meeting him before. That much was public information. He didn't know who she'd learned it from, though, so he didn't know if she knew about his... condition. Hopefully it wouldn't be an issue.
The other Vice-Captain and the Hollow both introduced themselves. Mishio would've glared at the creature, but it was nowhere to be seen. Lieutenant Sumirebana explained its ability, and Mishio groaned. "Great. It can escape from Bakudo." He backed up against Meiko, eyes peeled for the Hollow. "So, I take it from the fact that you're here that you don't want it dead, just subdued for research, right?" That was why Mishio hadn't used a Hado on the creature to begin with. Squad 12 was the R&D of the Gotei 13, so they didn't get a lot of the rote extermination missions.
" Don't bother with the Lieutenant bit right now, just call me Mishio. We can be polite when we're safe, right?" Mishio kept his eyes out, trying to spot the Hollow. He jumped when a sound like a train wreck came from above them, and he kicked himself forwards as a Cero hit the ground behind him. "Are you alright, Meiko?" Hopefully he wouldn't be forced to leave it alive, but knowing Squad 12, that was all too likely the case. Mishio wasn't expecting that, and he didn't know if he needed to respond with lethal force, so he did the quickest thing he could think of. "Bakudo #1, Sai!" With a sweep of his hand, an invisible force attacked the Hollow, attempting to pin its arms behind its back. Hardly lethal, but a great delaying tactic. TEMPLATE BY SAMARECARM OF OTE + BTN

They suspected someone other eyesight was watching them. Good. Yu wanted them to know that he was watching, so that they could make the right kido techs against that mere baby hollow. Surely enough the hollow introduced itself, loud enough for Yu's ears to hear the name of the hollow, Oscuro. "Such a strange name for a hollow." Yu added while eyeing the scene once more. It was plain and simple, the girl lieutenant did not want the thing murdered for she wanted to do some experiments on the hollow. Preferably that was what Division 12 was sincerely all about: Shinigami Research and Development Institute. Main word in that title, Research. Experiments. Lab Rats. Guinea Pigs. Every name in the book. And yet Yu heard another Bakudo spell. This time it was the very first bakudo spell #1. Sai. It would at least lock the Hollow's arms behind his back, disabling it to even attack at all. It was good for the most part, but still lacked the feet of the hollow. Now, say if the hollow got away...
You're going to try and do something aren't you? So... unlike you master. A deep, raspy yet menacing voice echoed inside of Yu's head as Jiganytu put emphasis on the name-calling, master. Yu had crept a small smile as he held his right hand to the sky. "...Then I guess you know me well Jiganytu." Jiganytu chuckled after his master's statement as Yu began the incantation: "Walls of iron sand, a priestly pagoda, glowing ironclad fireflies. Standing upright, silent to the end. Bakudo #75, Gochūtekkan." Yu puts the index finger and the middle finger of his right hand together as he points his hand downward. In thin air, Yu summoned five incredibly tall and thick pillars which are connected to each other by chains to pin a target to the ground. The target for today was none other than Oscuro himself. He figured that a Hado spell would make the girl lieutenant very unhappy.
Yu decided to walk from among the shadows and show his presence along with Jiganytu, his sealed zanpaktou, sheathed horizontally behind him as his body had made a swish-like sound using the art of Shunpo. He then appeared to where the whole commotion was and sighed, seeing two lieutenant because the sight of their badges had given it away. "Locking his arms would suffice, but what if the thing ran off..?" He realized what he had seen at first, the thing dematerialized itself when it was hit with the Bakudo that the girl lieutenant had shot it with. Hoping that the fact would not happen again, Yu had swiftly drew Jiganytu from its sheath in a reverse-hand grip motion, for Jingaytu's spiritual pressure was leaking visibly in a red hue, symbolizing the appearance to be of waves in the ocean.

Meiko was alerted to the heavy flow of reiatsu overhead, and she did the wisest thing: move before figuring out what it was. Using shunpo in the nick of time, she vanished just before the red blast of cero sent dust and fragments of concrete flying all about, and the black hollow dropped to the rooftop. He grinned, turning his sights on the 10th Division Lieutenant, just as a strange, invisible force clamped his arms tightly behind him. The grin turned to a look of puzzlement. "What did I do..." There was no time to finish, as a set of gigantic pillars suddenly appeared from nowhere, smashing the hollow into the roof and pinning him there.
"...do?"
Meiko looked in surprise as a kid, in all appearances seemingly younger than she was, came out of the shadows. He didn't seem to be attired in the Shinigami garb, but if he could cast a kidou that Meiko was not capable of casting, he was definitely quite strong. The newcomer posed a question, most likely at Mishio, since it was he who had cast the Sai bakudou. All the same, before Mei could say anything, Oscuro took the liberties of answering the newcomer. "If I may be so bold, might I point out that not only have I done nothing to deserve this untoward treatment, I am also the victim of unfair ganging. If there truly is a God in heaven to see all the injustice that... wait! There is!" With the last statement, Oscuro winked out of existence once again.
Meiko sighed. "It seems this is going to be one hell of a long day. Thanks for assisting us, sir, but it would appear that bakudou are quite ineffective against our opp--"
In mid-sentence, Oscuro suddenly appeared in front of Yu, sensing him to be the strongest. As he appeared, he was already swinging his claws, looking to draw blood from the Lieutenants. Yu would see himself as the target of a nearly pointblank cero. Meiko, for her part, caught by surprise, managed to dodge much of Oscuro's claw, but one claw ended up with some material from Meiko's uniform, and her left shoulder was beginning to leak.
"Well, with the lack of cross-sectional area your uniform has, our dear hollow friend has even reduced it," Meiko's zanpakutou spirit taunted mentally.
"Sorry, no time for jesting," Meiko countered, drawing her zanpakutou and holding it before her. "Amakudare, Tenkohaku Gyokuren!" Instantly, Meiko's zanpakutou dissolved, forming the characteristic shells around her fists. "For the record, gentlemen, the words 'alive' and 'unspoiled' are quite not synonymous. He won't die if he doesn't have an arm and a leg."

[atrb=border,0,true][bg=eeeeee][atrb=width,500,true]— NOT EVEN THE GROUND CAN KEEP US DOWN. THIS IS NOT THE END. Mishio groaned as he was criticized for his choice of Kido. "You realize I did that while dodging a Cero, right? I didn't exactly have a lot of time to work on that one." He nodded with Meiko's assessment; Bakudo weren't working. He didn't have a lot of other containment methods, but he could dial back a few Hado to herd the thing. The hollow appeared in front of the newcomer, but managed to take a swing at Mishio and Meiko as well.
The Squad 10 Lieutenant managed to block the swipe, catching the Hollow's claws on his sword. He got an idea, and he stepped back. "If the precise application of force isn't working, let's go for the scare tactic." Holding his blade up in front of him, he said three words. "Gentei Kaijo! Bankai." The yellow dust that by this point had scattered across the rooftop gathered around Mishio's feet, obscuring him from sight as it flared into a pillar. When it cleared, Mishio was holding a hilt like a conductor's baton. More impressively, there were huge wings of condensed yellow dust and a tornado of the same substance swirling around him."Eien no Yoake"
Mishio gestured to the Hollow with the hilt of his sword, and activated Stardust River. The dust swirled around Oscuro wildly, preventing its escape unless it used its ability again. The tornado would slowly tighten, but stop short of actually touching the Hollow. The lieutenant shouted over the high winds. "Just come quietly. We aren't going to kill you. Lieutenant Sumireibana has a few things to do before that. Trust me, surrender is your best option. You live longest that way, and you keep your limbs."
