lay it on the line han: 6 rei: 6 hak: 6 sei: 8 buk: 7 hoh: 6 Shiro stood on the northern side of the slab, waiting for his opponent to come out. When he had first heard the name of who he was fighting, he hadn't been very happy about it. Shuichi was in his squad, only a couple seats under him, too. He didn't want to hurt -- worst case scenario, kill -- his comrade. But things wouldn't get that far, would they?
Shiro shook his head. Now was not the time to be worried about Shuichi, and it definitely wasn't the time for him to be hesitant. Things like that would only ensure his loss. I've gotta win this! he thought, resolutely staring ahead, waiting for his opponent come out. His plan was to finish it quickly. He could try to knock out or bind the other officer with Kido. All he had to do was make it so that Shuichi couldn't fight anymore. He didn't want to use his Zanpakuto if he could avoid it. TEMPLATE by DELL @ BTN and PRE

Somebody get me through this nightmare Shuichi walked casually out onto the field from the south entrance, taking a quick glance around at the environment before his eyes came to settle on who he was fighting; someone from his own squad. Well, what were the odds? Not like it was an issue for him, he was thankful that he and his sister didn't have to fight this round. Though he had the feeling it was inevitable. He came to a stop five feet from the entrance and rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly, he hadn't spoken much to the guy, but they had briefly met.
"Hey...Let's just consider this like a sparring match between squad mates!" Shuichi laughed, truth be told he felt a little awkward fighting someone he barely even knew, well, someone who wasn't a hollow or anything anyway. Naturally he didn't seem to be taking the whole thing seriously, it wasn't like he would be fighting for his life like he would be out on the field. It was a tournament, only people who couldn't stand loosing would take it as seriously as that. Though he would have to admit, winning the tournament would be pretty neat... lay it on the line han: 6 rei: 6 hak: 6 sei: 8 buk: 7 hoh: 6 Shiro tensed a little when he saw Shuichi walk onto the field. He looked so calm. Shiro had to wonder how he did it. Maybe Shuichi's conscience wasn't as heavy as his own. Still, that didn't help Shiro much.
At Shuichi's suggestion, Shiro smiled, "Sure!" he said. He had assumed that Shuichi would make a move of some sort, but he didn't. In fact, he still didn't look as if he were really taking this seriously. There was a time limit; Shiro wasn't going to wait all day. He would take initiative. He knew that once he got fighting, his hesitance to fight a fellow squad member would eventually evaporate. That was what he needed, was to disregard anything that would sway his mind. That was the only way he could go through with this and win for his team.
It was too bad that he hadn't mastered shunpo, yet. If he had, then he could easily take his opponent by surprise. But, it couldn't be helped. If he was attacking first, it would probably be better to do so from a distance, rather than charging in blindly. He usually preferred it if his opponents attacked him first when it came to close combat; that way he could counter. He knew how he could make that happen.
"Hado number fourteen, Tsunami!" he said, raising his left hand. With it rose a sudden and large volume of water. It rose up in front of him and swelled into a fair-sized wave, before crashing down towards Shuichi. Since Shiro hadn't bothered with an incantation, it wasn't overly powerful. However, if Shuichi didn't somehow get over the wave and come to Shiro's side of the arena, He could be swept up by the wave. If that happened, and he was swept out of the arena, he would lose automatically. It really would be great if Shiro could win this in one attack, and with minimal injury done to his opponent, but that was too much to wish for. There was no way that Shuichi was that much of a pushover.
Expecting his opponent to make it over the wave, Shiro laid his hand on the hilt of his Zanpakuto. Soon, the water would clear out, as it ran over the sides of the concrete slab. This was merely an attempt to get Shuichi to do something. Shiro had to admit, he didn't like it when he wasn't taken seriously. And against most people, that was sadly the case. Maybe if he won this, more people would take him seriously. TEMPLATE by DELL @ BTN and PRE

Somebody get me through this nightmare As soon as he saw the rush of water barreling towards him Shuichi focused his reiryoku in preparation for a counter. ”Bakudo number eleven, Kyomon!” He called out, and suddenly there was a glass like barrier erected between himself and the barrage of water heading his way. The barrier held out until all the water had passed before it shattered and disappeared. ”That was some quick thinking…” He thought relieved, glad he was able to throw the bakudo in the way in time. Now…All he had to do was counter… He couldn’t shunpo quite yet, but perhaps there was a way he could manage without it. Before he even drew his zanpakuto he dropped into a stance and began focusing his reiryoku once more, curling all the fingers on his left hand save for his index and middle finger and placing that hand on his right clavicle, he began gathering reishi for the hado he was about to cast. ”Hado number nineteen, Amaterasu no Zēberingu Hikari!” Then, in one sudden horizontal sweeping motion of his left hand, he shot a wave of light at Shiro. If the wave hit, there was the potential for some decent damage to the other male, it might even push him closer to the edge of the arena. Of course that wasn’t enough; the two would never get anywhere if they just launched kido at each other. So, Shuichi ran behind the wave he just shot as fast as he could with his zanpakuto drawn and ready. If the kido hit Shiro, Shuichi would follow up by swinging his zanpakuto in a diagonal slice from the other male’s left shoulder down to his left hip, coming up straight behind the wave of light he had just sent his way. If Shiro dodged, Shuichi would immediately draw into a defensive position which would be versatile enough for him to possibly be able to launch a counter attack should he be able to avoid what came his way next. lay it on the line han: 6 rei: 6 hak: 6 sei: 8 buk: 7 hoh: 6 Shiro was a little disappointed when he saw Shuichi erect the Kido shield. He had been counting on the other Shinigami trying to go above the tidal wave and attacking him head-on. But it wasn't the end of the world. Shuichi couldn't block all of Shiro's attacks with Kido; he would run out of energy if he tried. So eventually, Shiro could get the upper hand in this; he knew that much. He could feel that his own Reiatsu was just a bit stronger than Shuichi's, but that didn't mean anything to him. Reiatsu wasn't everything. Shiro wasn't going to drop his guard even for an instant.
He vaguely recognized the stance that Shuichi had taken. It was for some sort of Kido; Shiro couldn't quite put his finger on which. Shiro's hand crept up to the hilt of his zanpakuto, just in case this Kido was something he couldn't just dodge outright. His answer was given when he saw Shuichi shoot the wave of light towards him. Hastily, Shiro jumped up above the horizontal wave. Even though he had been expecting the attack, Kido was pretty fast, so he almost didn't make it. He was honestly a bit surprised that the other Shinigami had used two spells in a row. Surely, that had to be tiring for him? Well, that would only play in Shiro's favour. But he really couldn't talk about Kido overuse; he was about to use another one himself. While he was still airborne, he started a chant for it in a hushed whisper. "Disintegrate, you black dog of Rondanini! Look upon yourself with horror and tear out your own throat!" thankfully, the chant was one of the shorter ones, so he was able to say it quickly as he dropped down toward the ground and what looked like another attack.
Before Shiro even dropped back down to the ground, he was forced to unsheathe his zanpakuto as Shuichi came in from behind his own Kido. Shiro forced his blade down to block Shuichi's strike just as his feet touched down on the ground. Hado, number nine, Geki!" he said, in a louder voice this time. He didn't like sneaky maneuvers, and he didn't like hitting his comrade with such a painful spell, but he was aiming to win this quickly. It was likely that Shuichi would be engulfed in a paralyzing red light, unless he had a way to travel a good distance in an extraordinary amount of time.
Right after he uttered the spell, - since his blade would be free whether Shuichi moved or was hit by the Kido - Shiro pulled his sword back before thrusting it towards the other Shinigami's right shoulder while he was hopefully still incapacitated. He wasn't aiming to penetrate all the way through, but he did mean to disable Shuichi's sword arm. Pretty much everyone he knew was right-handed, so Shiro was banking on Shuichi being right-handed, too. Given that he was holding his zanpakuto in his right hand, this was a fair assumption. Somebody get me through this nightmare Not only was Shuichi a bit tired from using two higher level kido in succession, but he hadn’t mastered his shunpo yet, which put him at a disadvantage; though not too much of one because it seemed like the other male might not have been able to use shunpo either. So when Shiro used Genki he had no means of avoiding the kido and there for was frozen in his place as a result, leaving him wide open to the attack on his shoulder, his grip on his zanpakuto loosening. Once he felt himself able to move again Shuichi quickly switched hands, now he wasn’t ambidextrous, but for right now he would have to deal; it wasn’t like he was going to have a sword for much longer anyhow.
He jumped back about four feet from Shiro and held his zanpakuto horizontally out in front of him, he didn’t seem to have much of a choice, if he wanted a shot he’d have to use his Shikai early. Not that he entirely minded, but he was hoping he could go on a little longer without it; it was still practically the beginning of the match.
”Bind, Kagirinai Kuragari no Kusari!” Shuichi called, and suddenly there was a thick substance beginning to coat both of his arms, the substance solidified and took shape of chains, two sets of two chains on both of his arms; the chains wrapped around his arms a few times which would indicate a decent length to them. Silver ball grips dangled off by his elbows while the other end of the chains ended in what appeared to be kunai knives, aside from the silver ball grips the chains were solid black and took a shadowy look to them. Without wasting much time Shuichi drew back both of his arms and launched his chains straight at Shiro, however each of them would be aiming to do something completely different.
Two of the chains were aimed at his opponent’s legs, just below the knees; he was aiming to wrap them around Shrio’s legs so that he might be able to hold him in place, aiming for just below the knees because if Shiro decided to jump there was still a chance to catch him by the ankles. Though given the distance between them there would still be a chance to avoid them all together with a side step, however given the speed at which the chains were moving he would have to do it soon. The speed at which the chains were moving was equal to that of an arrow being fired. At the least he was hoping to make the other male stumble, just something to throw him off and make it easier to land a hit.
While two of the chains aimed for his legs one of the other two, moving at the same speed, was aimed to attack; the kunai end of one of his chains was aiming for a puncture wound in Shiro’s left hip, the wound wouldn’t be deep, but it could possibly be painful enough to make it difficult to stand on and possibly be a distraction during the rest of the battle. While that chain aimed to do damage his other sought to disable his weapon by wrapping itself around the blade of Shiro’s zanpakuto, though this could be avoided by simply raising his zanpakuto vertically. However none of this would come to fruition if Shiro had managed to avoid his first two chains aimed for his legs, if that proved to be the case then Shuichi would draw back all of his chains and prepare himself for whatever Shiro would send his way next.
(( Okay if this is too dickish or anything lemme know and I'll edit XD The arrow thing was the best analogy I could come up with to describe the speed. ))

lay it on the line han: 6 rei: 6 hak: 6 sei: 8 buk: 7 hoh: 6 Shiro was not surprised that his attack had hit. He had set it up pretty well, after all. Perhaps, if he had aimed for a vital area, he could have won the fight in one blow, but Shiro wasn't willing to hurt his fellow squad mate that badly. Winning wasn't worth the weight it would put on his conscience.
After Shuichi stepped back, Shiro did so as well. It was never a bad thing to distance oneself in these types of situations. Hearing what was undoubtedly Shuichi's Shikai command, Shiro readied himself, sliding his right foot back a bit, and raising his own zanpakuto in defense. He moved his free hand onto the hilt, though he wasn't planning to use kendo at the moment. His sword was about to get a bit heavier. If Shuichi was going to release his zanpakuto, Shiro figured he had better reciprocate, when the time was right. Unfortunately, Shiro had no idea what Shuichi's Shikai ability was.
He had not been expecting the chains to move so quickly, so Shiro - instead of taking any defensive measures - instinctively threw himself to the right. He was able to avoid two of the chains, but the one aiming for his right leg was able to wrap itself around his left ankle as he jumped. Tripped up, he fell to the ground as his sword was also wrapped up by one of the chains.
With his ankle still bound by one of the chains, Shiro pushed himself up with his right hand, now holding his zanpakuto in his left in case he needed to guard against a sudden attack from Shuichi. But there was none. Was he hesitating as well? Shiro needed to get the chain off of his blade, so there was only one option. He raised his blade diagonally, with the tip digging into the ground.
"Persecute, Ginkanmuri!" he almost yelled, trying to keep his cool in his compromised position. The blade of his sword began to glow with a white aura and widened rapidly, nearly, quintupling in size as it morphed into a wide broadsword with a cross emblazoned on each face. The blade's sudden expansion would probably break the chain binding it, or so Shiro hoped. After his blade's transformation, surprisingly, Shiro one-handed it, raising the blade up and slashing it towards the chain trailing behind him, aiming to cut what was binding his ankle. He didn't even know if the chains could be cut, but he was going for it anyway.
If he did manage to break them, Shiro would get to his feet, holding Ginkanmuri in his right hand, the giant blade trailing on the ground beside him. His expression was much more serious now. Both combatants had just released their zanpakuto, both knew barely anything about the other's power. Things were about to get dangerous. Prepare yourself. came the voice of Ginkanmuri, resonating within Shiro's mind. It was odd really. With Shuichi's dark chains, and Shiro's holy-looking sword, it was almost like a battle between light and darkness.
With both hands on Ginkanmuri's hilt, Shiro lifted the blade and charged towards Shuichi. A head-on attack probably wasn't the best idea, but Shiro didn't want to use any of his stronger techniques yet, not until there was an opening and he was sure that the Reiryoku put into it wouldn't be wasted.
If he managed to get close to the other Shinigami, Shiro would swing the massive blade down towards his right shoulder, aiming for the weak spot he had so recently created. With a five-foot long blade, he certainly had a good advantage when it came to reach. But Shuichi's chains were not much different in that aspect. If anything, Shiro predicted that he would hold the advantage in power, while Shuichi would hold the advantage in speed. TEMPLATE by DELL @ BTN and PRE

Somebody get me through this nightmare As soon as Shuichi heard Shiro call out what he figured was his Shikai release command he unraveled his chains from Shiro’s sword and drew them all back to prepare for what was to come, he’d never seen his squad mate’s Shikai before so this was new territory. While the size of the weapon, when it’d finished transforming, was intimidating Shuichi thought nothing more of it, it looked rather heavy to wield; which, to Shuichi, meant it would probably slow his opponent down. With both combatants in Shikai, so soon into the match, he knew things had escalated quickly. As he watched Shiro run towards him Shuichi jumped back away from him by at least three feet, which was enough to buy him a little time to set his next plan in motion.
With Shiro running and, probably not paying attention to his feet as he was more focused on landing the blow, Shuichi had an idea. Letting one of his chains hang from his left arm so that it almost touched the ground, he waited until Shiro was approximately three feet away before extending that chain and whipping out at his feet, aiming to trip the other male up as he was running. The action was so quick that there was only a short amount of time to act lest Shiro would likely trip and hopefully fall flat on his face, he was confident this would work, however given how easily Shiro avoided his last assault he wasn’t overly confident.
While that chain attempted to trip the other male up, the remaining free chains on his right arm coiled around his arm as he raised it in defense to attempt to block the sword should Shuichi’s plan fail. He raised the free chain of his left arm and aimed the kunai end at Shiro, waiting and watching. If Shiro was tripped up Shuichi would shoot it straight at his gut, aiming to puncture and leave a deep wound. If Shiro avoided getting tripped up he would shoot the chain out at Shiro’s chest aiming to stab above his left pectoral, though that action would be meant as more of a distraction, hoping to make Shiro block his attack instead of follow through with his own. . lay it on the line han: 6 rei: 6 hak: 6 sei: 8 buk: 7 hoh: 6 Though it was only a small detail, Shiro noticed that Shuichi had actually unraveled his chain from Ginkanmuri as he activated Shikai. Did that mean the chains, once broken, could not be regenerated? Disabling his opponent's Shikai like that could give Shiro a definite edge. Still, that wasn't his main goal. Trying to beat someone without severely injuring or killing them - especially someone around one's own level - was difficult for sure.
Given what had happened only seconds ago, Shiro was keeping an eye on the ground. As he suspected, Shuichi went for his feet again. "That worked before..." he said, quickly jumping a small height above the chain to avoid tripping again. "But it won't work again!" he continued, dropping back down and swinging the broadsword at Shuichi like he had originally planned. He liked to think that he wasn't stupid. He wouldn't fall for the same trick twice, especially if it was used consecutively. Hopefully, Shiro wouldn't be proven wrong in this match.
Shiro hadn't expected an instantaneous counter from Shuichi, but he hadn't expected to land a direct hit, either. Though Shuichi's chains would hardly be enough to overpower the large broadsword outright. When his opponent jumped back and blocked his swing, Shiro instantly shifted into a defensive stance, drawing Ginkanmuri back closer to his body. But then he felt a sudden stinging pain in his chest and flinched. He hadn't been expecting the small projectile to snake through his defense, and nearly dropped his zanpakuto in shock.
For a second, Shiro thought that he had been hit somewhere vital, but after a brief pause on his part, it didn't seem that way. Of course a fellow officer wouldn't do something like that to him. But that didn't mean Shiro was going to give up and let Shuichi win. The injury couldn't be too terrible. It hurt a lot, but he wasn't going to die from it; he could tell that much.
Shiro raised his free hand up to grasp the chain that the kunai was attached too. At first, it looked as if he would try to pull it out, but then he tightened his grip as he focused his Reiatsu and sent a surprisingly strong jolt of electricity right up the chain towards Shuichi. "Hado, number eleven, Tsuzuri Raiden!" he said in a somewhat strained voice, activating the Kido spell. It looked to him like Shuichi's Shikai was attached right to his arms, so this spell would be very effective against him. And his opponent had given Shiro the perfect opportunity to use it. Somebody get me through this nightmare At first Shuichi was glad that he had finally managed to land a hit, though he was honestly hoping for his first target, of Shiro’s gut, rather than his chest where he was struck. It was a more risky spot to wound in his opinion, and he wasn’t aiming for a kill shot. When he saw Shiro not only still standing but able to keep going he was both relieved and disappointed, he wanted to disable his opponent in one hit, much like Shiro must have when he attacked his shoulder, he really didn’t like how long this battle was dragging on. He watched as Shiro grabbed his chain and he instantly became suspicious, but figured maybe he might opt to remove the chain from his wound till he heard what he dreaded; the Kido he suspected. He knew there was no way to remove the chain from Shiro in time to avoid it, and it was the same with simply unraveling the chain seeing as he had too much chain to drop in such a short amount of time, so he grit his teeth in preparation for the oncoming shock.
It was painful, his arms twitched as the electricity surged through his body and it felt like hours before the kido finally finished running its course, at the end of it Shuichi was left panting, still standing but feeling like hell; though of course he would, he just got electrocuted. Despite this though he was still standing, contemplating an idea as he eyed the chain still in Shiro’s chest; he could do it, he could use his one ability to potentially do even more risky damage to his squad mate, but then he decided the risk wasn’t worth causing as much damage as he suspected it might. He began contemplating other ways he could get some more damage in, but a certain voice had interrupted his thoughts after he dismissed his first idea.
”You’re gonna puss out? Squad mate or no he’s in the way of victory…If you don’t do something I will…” Vulnere threatened, that snarl echoed throughout his mind. Damn, it was just a tournament, for shits and giggles despite there being enemies entered, and if this had been an Arrancar maybe he would have pushed through with this; take the risk of losing control, because then it would’ve been disposing of an enemy. But he was fighting a squad mate, and there was no way in hell he was going to risk going on any further when that damn demon was opting to take control. In theory he could’ve continued fighting, at least a couple more turns anyway, but now that his inner hollow was a risk he couldn’t chance it. ”Shiro, gonna have to give you this match.” Shuichi chuckled, speaking through a strained voice caused by both the pain of having been fried and trying to keep his hollow at bay. As soon as his squad mate released his chain from his grip he would force his zanpakuto back into its sealed state and sheath it back on his hip, he looked over to his opponent and grinned to show no hard feelings. ”Hey, I want a rematch though!” He laughed; of course he was speaking for a later date. .[/div] I can't control myself HAN: 6 REI:5 HAK:6 SEI:6 BUK:5 HOH:6
