Shinigami are unearthly beings living in a world ruled by a different logic than the World of the Living. They possess high Reiryoku and a body of Reishi. They are invisible to those without spiritual powers.
When souls with exceptional spiritual energy train their bodies, they reach the level of Shinigami. The most talented of them become affiliated with various organizations like the Gotei 13 and the Onmitsukidō. Sometimes, a Shinigami is born among the residents of the Rukongai, and in some rare cases from Seireitei.
Shinigami usually wear Shihakusho, a black kimono that is customary to wear a white undergarment underneath. Some wear bright colored scarves with it or shorten the sleeves. They commonly carry their Zanpakutō which is in most cases tied to their obi sash. Some have made modifications to their attire
Shunpo: A high speed movement technique. Requires at least 8 in HOH
Utsusemi: The practitioner moves at great speed, leaving an afterimage which can appear to have taken damage. Requires at least 16 in HOH.
Senka: The practitioner moves behind the opponent to directly attack and seal their "Saketsu (鎖結, Chain Binding)" and "Hakusui (鎖結, Soul Sleep)" in two rapid attacks. The movement is so fast, an opponent may not be able to tell whether they were attacked from the front or the back, and even an outside observer may find it impossible to tell what the movements are. Requires at least an 18 in HOH
Kaido: The basic healing Kido. Requires at least 10 in SEI
Shikai: The true form of a Zanpakuto. It is released by saying the name, and comes in many different sizes, shapes, and overall abilities. Must have at least 5 in REI
Bankai: The final form of a Zanpakuto. It is much like the Shikai, but to an even grater effect. At least 15 in REI; AV-3 or higher
