The crush of grass underfoot had normally been a reedy sound that had often been overlooked by the man who tread the tundra. Now, however, it would be a crisp crunch as the frozen moisture made the once flimsy plant stiff. As if he could ever forget the sound. He came to the human world too often to forget these things. He had always found fascination with coming to this world. Having been stuck in the Ruokungai for centuries and worked his way up the ladder to where he was now, there had been so much that he, still didn't know. As one of the Research and Development division within the Gotei Thirteen, he was expected to find such simple things such as this mundane and trite. He couldn't help but feel as if every visit to this land was a new and delightful experience full of unexplored territory. It made him about as giddy as a child at Christmas, though his purpose for his visit was far more serious.
His footsteps fell silent as his immaterial form graced this cold, desolate land with his presence. Hollows had always been a threat to humanity in all its forms, spiritual or still in their weak, fleshy bodies. Ever since the first malignant soul had escaped the confines of Hell, this had always been a lasting problem within the world... even after the war in Karakura town, these malignant spirits still sought to feast upon their unsuspecting prey. Violet eyes turned to the device he was holding in his left hand, the blip of a location showing up on the radar. He heard laughter as a couple came closer, unaware of the man whose head turned to look at them. He could almost feel the warmth of their bodies as they passed through him. He seemed unphased as he watched them walk away.
"Right on schedule."
The gurglings of the monster was what had first caught his attention and brought it to the mask of the being who was eyeing the two humans with eyeless sockets. its groans and gasps made it sound as though it was having trouble breathing. Not that he felt any pity for the creature. In a moment, it sprang from its position toward the couple. Hoshiro moved as well, his hair flowing behind him with his swift, graceful movements. In a single sweep of the short sword, the monster's head split in two, the abomination not even realizing what had happened.
"Return to the darkness whence you came, vermin."
As though accepting the command from the man, the Hollow faded into the darkness of the night. Hoshiro's eyes turned back down to the blade of his sword, seemingly in thought. Pitiful. This creature hadn't been worth the effort. Perhaps if he'd allowed it to take the lives of those two humans it may have grown a little stronger and given him more useful data that he hadn't encountered before. "Another failure." The words came as a whisper. With a small tsss the sword was sheathed. Even at a fraction of his power, he was still more powerful than most of the common Hollows one came across... not that his physical capabilities had been reduced by all that much. Still, it was slightly annoying.
"Another night, another failure to retrieve any new data." He sighed, his head tilting to the side. "I suppose the Hollows have no new data to provide me."
Tragic.

It seemed his master had been caught up in an espada meeting. Just as he had gone to see his beloved Lilly she was being told of such meeting and in no time she was racing toward it. Lewin had been around different eras of espada to know that he was better off finding something to do in the time they would last, since such time was hard to pinpoint. He figured he at least would have time to go to the human world. He wanted to get something for Lilly while he was there. He had planned on getting her some flowers. Sadly though he made the grave mistake of picking this place as his destination. Was there no sign of life? No. Was he going to find some vibrant flower that his dear espada would be in awe over? It was quite unlikely to be the case. He sat in the stiff grass, elbows resting on his knees, coat soaking up some of the frost that was sticking to the barely green blades of grass under it. This hadn't been the trip he was exactly looking for. He hadn't even brought anything to paint on to perhaps make something for Lilly to make up for the flower he was just not finding.
Lewin leaned forward, resting his chin on his crossed arms. Rather than traveling much farther he opted to just sit there in the middle of the field he had found, looking just about as depressing as he could. His violet hair hung in his face, casting deep shadows on the dark circles under his eyes that were half lidded and seeming to stare off into space. His long limbs were unmoving, hands just hanging off his bony knees lifelessly. His back was bowed to a point that would clearly become uncomfortable should it stay in that position for very long. He was a pitiful sight and he knew it. He had so been looking forward to the praise he would have gotten from the girl. The arrancar looked like a very easy target. Some time back though he had noted a few things nearby. What they were he didn't exactly know. One felt much too familiar, likely a hollow. The other had quite the opposite feel. And it was much stronger than the other. So to some extent, Lewin had a guard up. He wasn't as completely lifeless and an easy kill as it may have seemed.
It was then that he heard laughing off in the distance. He looked that way, spotting not only a couple, but something else there that they didn't even seem to notice. Lewin lifted his head up, squinting his eyes to see better. Then he realized he was looking at a shinigami when they walked straight through him. That definitely got his mind off of his previous dilemma. And not a moment later the other presence he had felt revealed itself too. It was indeed a hollow, was being a very important word. Nearly as soon as the shinigami laid eyes on it, the beast was being sliced right down the middle.
Lewin stood up slowly, trying not to make a sound. As far as it seemed now he wasn't noticed yet. However he didn't exactly think through how a man towering over seven feel with dark clothes against the slightly frosted ground would easily stand out, and unfortunately he wasn't weak enough to just slide on by, without being noticed if this man could sense anything. At least not until it was too late. The man was even facing right his way. Lewin slouched down, turn abruptly though he doubted it would do much good even as he began to take quick steps away. He kept his head low, hoping that by some strike of luck he would be able to get out, however unlikely it seemed that he wouldn't become a new experiment.

Another day, another stunt in his educational growth. This just hadn't been his decade. Other than the surfacing of an enemy on the level of captains and even more powerful beings than even he, such a being could contain such nuggets that he'd never seen before! And his luck? To be placed on the sidelines as Captain Mayuri got to have all the fun himself. While not one to get angered easily, such a thing had been beyond forgiveness! Now he had lost valuable time and resources and needed to rely on his luck to make up for lost time. At least, he had for the first two years. After things had calmed down, he'd let his hopes and dreams float away on the winds of despair. Even as he had sheathed his sword, he had still felt a Hollow-esque reiatsu signature. Even though it had been alive some seconds before, the reiatsu signature was far too strong to be the remnants of the Hollow he'd dispatched.
"Peculiar."
He frowned, raising the instrument to gaze at it sidelong-- believing it was possible it may be malfunctioning. It hadn't stated anything about more than one Hollow-- so what was this dolorous feeling that his work wasn't finished yet nagging at the back of his mind? "Hmm?" He asked innocently as he looked over in the direction of the signature. Something was there... but-- it wasn't a hollow. Not completely. It was different.
"Hullo there!" The man was crouched on a tree branch overlooking the figure's 'careful' escape. Unlike the look he had on his face, completely serious in his extermination of the Hollow, his expression was soft and curious as he watched wide-eyed. The thing he had sensed-- it was a man? The figure bore a humanoid form despite reeking of Hollow. "You know, it's dangerous outside, you never know what sort of monsters might be lurking in these shadows!" While his voice was completely friendly, his word choice carried a certain irony with it. His face broke into a soft smile.
"Where are you going so quietly and quickly, anyway?"

Lewin froze midstep when he heard that greeting. He didn't bother lifting his violet eyes from the ground. It wasn't hard to figure out what, or who, was talking to him now. Slowly he set his foot down, showing that he wasn't really going anywhere, for the time being at least. He stayed crouched over, more out of just habit of looking to look like he was actually some normal height. He looked like just about anything except what would be a threatening arrancar. Pale skin, rather thin limbs, and messy purple hair. He could be deemed uninteresting if he was lucky.
Finally he looked up, spotting the man perched up on a branch. Yup, definitely shinigami. What a lucky day he was having. "..Hello..." he spoke quietly in a raspy tone that fir his darker looking nature perfectly. He really wasn't even sure why he was replying at all. He should have been a bit more focused on getting out of there. They hadn't had any orders about what to do in a situation such as this so it really was troublesome. The shinigami weren't even supposed to know that a new arrancar faction had gotten together. It was just a hell of a lot better to vanish into thin air yes? How grand that would have been. That seemed rather difficult now though. He could sense that this man was stronger than himself the way things were now.
"Ah...yes...I was just going..." He responded to that statement that made him a bit more worried than it probably should have. He really ran into something he didn't want to. So he was just going to push his luck and stick to his plan. Lewin turned around slowly, giving a nod to the shinigami. As he did so he placed a hand on the sheath of his zanpakuto, because better safe than sorry. With that he began to walk again, taking long strides that his lengthy legs allowed him to do without looking like he was in a rush to flee.
"Looking for flowers..." He began, trying to not let his bit of nervousness get to him too much. The last thing he wanted was to seem scared, like he had something to hide. "Theres not any..not here...so I have to.....go" Not once did he look back over his shoulder as he spoke to the man. He was of course telling the truth in a way. He had been looking for flowers. Anyone with a good pair of eyes could look around and see this was no place for that. So he was just going on his way. Going on his way in a rather sneaky matter. "So...farewell"
He knew better than to think it was going to be that easy. The way he was acting was suspicious, even if such a manner was only natural to the shyer side of him. When added in his tall, lanky, dark, creepy look, it was only a given that all kinds of doubt would be flying around in the man's head. Lewin didn't have much faith that he wasn't going to be running for his life in a matter of minutes. Though on another hand the shinigami hadn't really gone and done anything yet. To be honest he looked more curious than actually dangerous. Though sometimes the curious ones were the worst. Just looking at Nox could prove that much. A walking science experiment. That was not a fate he wanted to meet. So he put a little bit more speed into his step, not enough that would be noticed though. At least thats what the tall arrancar hoped for.
