Many years had passed since Static had first entered the area of common souls, but it was here he found himself among some good people. It was within the southern area that he had found a few people who had been kind enough to feed him what they could. The time had come to give back to the community.
Leaving several open invitations around several sets of barracks Dagger returned to the southern district with a grand basket. With an announcement of the free food and drink to all that come, the event had more people than he could count before even getting a somewhat large table set up.
With a bustle and smiles around, a large table was set with an abundance of treats and drinks. While the court guard are seen as a military force, it is all of soul society that must be protected. Leaving protection to only physical harm would be poor effort, or so Zero believed. By hosting an open party he could keep better track of how the area was doing and help increase moral.

Words: 383 Notes: meow Cake And the science gets done And you make a neat gun So this was a... cake party. That was what the paper Ariella found had said this event was supposed to be. She hadn't been invited to many parties. In fact the only party she could recall going to lately was that one Gray had... dragged her to... technically speaking at least. It turned out there was a set guest list at that gathering though, so Ariella was less than welcomed to be there. Needless to say it hadn't been a very fun party. She was pretty sure no one had emoted themselves. In her eyes that was a failure, and had been a waste of her time.
Now that Gray was no longer in her possession, because some found it ethically wrong to keep the fullbringer in her lab, Ariella had some more time on her hands. She had to hunt him down to do any kind of test on him, which was more trouble le than she liked to go through. He always ran and he was getting so fast. He made it to watery areas in no time at all. She cursed the day he found out about her fear of water. Instead of getting wet, Ariella opted to stay closer to home. She had decided to figure out the appeal of parties.
So far she didn't understand. She disliked sweets, and from everything she learned most people couldn't handle too much of them. There was the free aspect. People took advantage of things that were free. That could have explained why everyone was stuffing their faces, except for her of course. She made a few rounds, trying not to be noticed. She wasn't in her spy suit though, so there was no telling if she was successful or not. She though she was doing, but on the contrary she was terrible at this. She would simply star a few feet at best away from a person or group and just watch them, not saying a word out loud as she made mental notes about their mannerisms. She would move on every few minutes, onto making more people weirded out. She was getting some good information though. The topics had involved small talk or the flirting. So far she deemed parties absolutely useless. There was more science to be done though.

As the souls fed it gave Static a chance to speak with several groups and gather what he could about the overall feelings of the area. The response was well enough, but he had hoped for a better one. He hadn't been the 2nd in command for the protection division for long, but his aspirations were high. After a short while a baggy black cloth caught his eye. Having caught sight of another shinigami, Static lifted an arm and waved. Stepping towards the aloof researcher he spoke up with a light-hearted joy, "It's good to see you come out." He didn't recognize her as a member of his squad or as one of the captains, so it was an opportunity to learn a new face. Not to say he would keep it for long, but it was a chance.

Words: 383 Notes: meow Cake And the science gets done And you make a neat gun Ariella was tempted to go back to her lab. It had turned into the same type of things repeating themselves. To be frank she was quite bored of being here. She knew no one, and those she didn't know lacked the interesting qualities one needed to get Ariella to want to know them, like suspicious suits or no clothes at all. She was jotting down some notes when she heard footsteps coming toward her with the aid of her modified ears. They got her attention, but she didn't yet look up. Only when it was obvious she was the destination did she raise her head.
It was another shinigami, not one she could say she knew very well. She knew he was a lieutenant, though she couldn't name his exact squad now that she was trying to think about it. Well she did.t have much time to think before he began talking anyway. She tilted her head slightly, her blank expression not changing. It wasn't exactly the most comfortable greeting to give back to someone. Ariella was all but aware of that fact though. In fact she wasn't even aware she was creating a good few moments of awkward silence. She wasn't bothered by it, so no one else should have been. She was just like anyone else.... in her own mind.
"So is this your... cake party?" Ariella finally asked, breaking the silence. It could be mistaken for her doing that small talk thing. Ariella didn't small talk though. She was doing some more research. She knew the host had to be a shinigami who could get around, and that hosts often approached all of their guests. She wanted to know why some one would throw a party like this one. The easiest way was to ask. It kept her from having to throw her own for an experiment to see of it brought rewards or satisfactions. It seemed horrible to her, having to interact with this massive of a crowd. If this man was the host she would have been grateful. HAN: 6 REI:13 HAK: 10 SEI: 12 BUK: 6 HOH: 7 OOC: sorry for the wait. Thought some one else was joining.

Quiet, slow to react, but obviously observant. This miss was with research, kido corp, or counter intelligence. With nothing in hand it seemed odd for one of the casters to have come out. Thinking didn't ease up the problem with her identity much. It was with her eventual response as a question Static nailed down a little more about her. He wasn't entirely sure where to begin in response though. While he was the one in charge and funding the event, it wasn't so much his party. If the party had a pronounced owner, then the idea of bringing the whole closer together would also be driven further. Smiling he rubbed at his chin, "Oh no, the party is here because this is the place that brought it around."
Peeking about with the entirety of his upper body a smile crossed his lips as his focus came back to the quiet madam.Deciding to try again, he took another swing at figuring out who she was, "So what squad are you with?" If she wanted to play a game of checkers, why can't he give it a shot as well? His weight shifted from that of easy walking to a slightly slanted one as he took position to stand his ground for a time.

Words: 450 Notes: meow Cake And the science gets done And you make a neat gun Ariella didn't get what he was saying. The party was the host? It was just there? She disliked answers that weren't straight forward. She had wanted a yes or a no. She had gotten some form of a no, but then it had more words at the end of it that made this man seem like he was pretty connected to its making. She narrowed her eyes and pursed her lips a bit, trying to figure this all out. Well, she was definitely ready to leave now. She had been condemned to the fate of throwing a party. She wouldn't invite any captains or anything. Maybe she would just have a party in her squad. It was a lot safer for her that way. Having the talent of getting captains mad at her wasn't one that was very useful.
She was about to walk away without a warning or a goodbye. Then the man spoke again, stopping her just as she was about to turn and take her leave. It was a pretty typical question. If you didn't know a shinigami, that was usually the first question to ask. This was getting exciting. That was for sure. She turned back to face him fully, trying to look like she was all there and not noting details about him instead. It was probably pretty obvious since her eyes were traveling all over him, which was likely not a comfortable fact.
"Ariella Artaxerxes, Third seat of squad twelve" She gave him even more than he had asked for. It was only a matter of time before her rank and name were called into question. She was saving them both the time and the effort of doing one at a time. She also was saving herself the effort of asking the same three questions in return. By the way she got quiet and looked at him with that blank look of hers, it was clear she was expecting something. Surely he could put a few facts together and realize she was waiting for his introduction, even if she was already pretty sure about one of those answers.
"So how do you think your... this party is doing?" she had her own thoughts about the party, but gathering various information from various people was the way science went. She wasn't an expert. she needed to ask experts. It seemed like a normal question, but her tone made that same odd, apathetic feeling continue on. She stepped closer to the man, giving him a look over again, listening to his vitals with her amplified hearing. All of this was very important. It was also extremely creepy. She just didn't know that.

She wasn't much of one for conversation, and her time in the afterlife had drained what manners she had. Maybe it was normal for her origin culture, but she was a heathen by the standards of the few places Static had visited in his life. She seemed betwixt a pair of thoughts as she turned away, and then back with an answer. Her name had a strange ring to it, it sounded like it had a ring of the old European world in it. Which made her behavior all the stranger. He had been wrong in the past, but all the bricks seemed to point to her having a mental ailment. There was nothing wrong with mental ailments, some of them even fed the bearer a grand amount of intellect, but it made them difficult to judge.
"I am Static Fellstrike, the second in command for Soul Societies protection." He spoke with a respectful tone as a dull roar began to build from the crowd. His right arm lifted and his elbow bent. Placing a palm over his left shoulder he bowed to the miss. Keeping his head tilted upward and his eyes focused on her, he smiled and spoke, his chest still angled downward, "Try to relax and enjoy yourself."
Rising up as she spoke once more his arm came down and his brow furrowed. "It seems to be going well enough," his body shifted to the side and he gestured to the crowd, "The people are happy and fed." His eyes seemed to dim as his thoughts darkened. His smiling face slowly sank into a more apathetic mask just as she seemed to wear. His voice escaped to her once more, "Do be a good sport while you are here."

Words: 435 Notes: meow Cake and some guy And the science gets done And you make a neat gun So she was right in the end, as always. He was second in command of... some squad she wasn't sure of right now. She knew it was hers, maybe not the first or eleventh. She had vague ideas of their purposes, and she was rather positive it wasn't what he mention. That only left her with ten other squads to go through. She was at a party though. Was she really going to put effort into something like going through every squad and their specific duties. Would she have ever done that kind of thing anyway? The answer was likely a no. The numbers of squad did not often play a role in her studies, so she often conviently left them out, mostly because she couldn't bring herself to care enough. It was funny how often that was the case. It was becoming more often too. Maybe she needed to do something abou that.
He bowed next, and that completely crossed he eleventh squad out of her mind. None of those barbarians would have a clue about bowing. "Will do" she replied to his request that she enjoy herself. It has hard to tell if she was being sarcastic or note, because her tone never changed nor did her expression that was all but happy looking. She was being as sincere as Ariella got this time. She had decided a while ago that cake parties weren't her thing, but maybe something interesting would pop up for her to do.
She actually showed some expression when the man's changed. He looked about as stoic as she did all of the time. What had gotten him to be all serious all of a sudden. She just stared for a moment, brow raised, her eyes analyzing the male before her. After a moment she crossed her arms, her eye brow lowering back to its normal position. "I never had the intention not to be" she stated in a flat tone. "Perhaps you should take your own advice" Ariella tried, not even sure what was going on. She disliked that. She thought that maybe she had offended him somehow. She didn't really know how she would have done that, not that she was paying attention. There was still an ounce of questioning on her face but she didn't act on it. It was irrelevant to what she was there to do. If it was that big of an issue there was a strong chance that he would say something to her. He was a more social type, which hinted towards that fact for her.

She had a lot of guts, or a lack of understanding. It was clear she was part of research and development, counter intelligence required a much better presence. Her rebuttal was met with a fox-like smile and the words, "Oh, I am," echoed through to her as his body vanished into thin air.
Static wasn't the most grand with it, but he did enjoy having learned to use the flash step. His long hair fluttered own on his back as he reappeared at a far table. He smiled at her from across the table as he took a seat to enjoy a cup of tea. If she saw him, that is fine, if not he had just vanished back into the crowd. As long as this social interaction wasn't an official function, he had no chains to bind him. He could continue to enjoy himself and watch over the flock that had watched over him. It was a good day and he'd not soon let the madam of sixes and sevens cause trouble for him or his group.

Words: 383 Notes: meow Cake And the science gets done And you make a neat gun The man gave her some kind of look, and when he spoke there was a tone in his voice that even she knew wasn't a pleasant one. She tilted her head slightly, still giving him a somewhat curious look. She couldn't really think of what was wrong with him. She just gave him a hard look, her eyes not breaking contact with his for even a moment. At least it was that way until he vanished with the aid of a skill she had never bothered to try an attempt. Shunpo might have been out of her grab anyway, but that didn't mean it was worth the effort to try and learn. She wasn't sure about the standards some others had, but she figured she was doing just fine with the power she had already. She had survived a few arrancar attacks, brushed by some of those hell spawn, and even taken down a quincy. The idea of needing shunpo... was just not in her head.
Not to mention she was quite skilled in tracking down signatures. The man may have left her sight, but he didn't exactly try and conceal himself. All she had to do was focus for a moment to pinpoint him among the other souls that basically had no power at all. She turned her head, instantly spotting the man. It seemed he had found her too since he was looking right in her direction. She stared for a moment, not moving at all, something that was becoming rather common from her. After a moment though she began to walk in his direction, walking right through the middle of conversations with out a care. Once she was about halfway there, she pushed off from the ground, flying through the air until she was just above him. She landed on a table behind him, barely missing a few cups. It would have been a horrific sight if she spilled one of those and got wet. She didn't want to relive her swamp horrors again, in the eyes of more than just the naked fullbirnger.
"You didn't issue a proper farewell" Obviously Ariella was the kind of person to care about proper goodbyes. The look on her face said other wise. This was one of those times where she was just speaking so something would be said in return. In all honesty she was just bored. That and she was trying to stay clear of walking around Seireitei during the times when people were active. Not getting along with captains spooked her a bit. Not that bothering a lieutenant was much better. At least she stood a chance if this one grabbed her by the ear in an attempt to drag her away to some horrible fate. She really hated having her ears grabbed.

Static's figure stayed steady and he watched over the crowd as his target jumped up and over him. If she wanted to fight, she would strike out at him now, and he would have as much freedom as he wanted to reprimand her for her actions. His gaze didn't shift and he kept his ears at attention as she spoke again. She wanted a proper goodbye, with mannerisms like hers it seemed closer to she wanted the last words. Lifting his right arm upwards to match height with the top of his skull, a thumb and two fingers raised and twitched. His wave was as exciting as her tone and just as quick as he issued his adu, the arm came back to the table. [ooc] This would be a decent point to end the topic.

Words: 350 Notes: meow Cake And the science gets done And you make a neat gun The man didn't seem to react that much to her. Ariella just eyed him, waiting for something. She wasn't really sure what it was she was waiting on, but it was better than nothing. In fact, what she got was less pleasurable than nothing. The other shinigami didn't even utter a word, just looked at her. It would have bugged an average person. She wasn't exactly average though. What did annoy her was the end result. He just raised his arm into the air with some dull look on his face, offering her a two fingered wave. Ariella just looked down on him, waiting for something more that she didn't get. He had officially lost all of her interest. She was left with a very unsatisfied feeling, but it wasn't enough to drive her to use more effort to chase him down again.
He wanted to talk about being a good sport, but from what she could tell he was a rather skilled man in the hypocrite department. Maybe that was what his squad really did. She placed her hands on her hips when the man lowered his arm back down to rest on the table, dismissing her completely. Well that had been quite the experience for her first cake party. if she wasn't sure before, she now knew with certain that she strongly disliked them. The visored was pretty much done with them at this point. She much preferred lab parties that included more lively party guests and better games.
That in mind, she was really missing her lab right about then. That was about the only thing that could make her day worth the time at all. She looked on past the man, deciding he wasn't worth a goodbye that matched his half effort one. She leaped off of the table, flying over the man. Landing in the crowd somewhere, she made her way back in the direction of the Seireitei to the comforts of what she was familiar with. she just had to avoid captains in her trip and she would get there safely enough.
