sex: male | sexual orientation: heterosexual | race: shinigami ALIASES:The Analyst AGE:463 AGE OF APPEARANCE:22 SQUAD:Research and Development (XII) RANK:Captain
FACE CLAIM:Tales of Vespira-- Yuri Lowell
HEIGHT:6' 1"
WEIGHT:164 lbs
APPEARANCE:Hoshiro is a tall, thin man with long purple hair that falls to his mid-back. His bangs fall below his eyebrows which camoflauge perfectly to hide themselves away. When visible, they are thin, pronounced lines that sit low on his forehead just above his soft violet orbs. His eyes hold a knowing look to them as he peers from just under his bangs, unsurprised at the world around him, almost like a child who could tell by the wrapper what was contained in each present on Christmas day. His nose is long and doesn't protrude very far from his face, a narrow protrudence from his smooth face. His mouth a pale thinness seen commonly with the corners bending slightly downward, though unnoticeable if one didn't look very hard. His skin holds a pale look to it if only slight and a completely Caucasian look to him.
He wears on his thin frame the Shinigami wardrobe granted to all who serve in the gotei thirteen. As a captain, he is awarded a patch identifying his rank and division as Research and Development. On his waist is a white belt offsetting the black of his garb. Hanging at the small of his back is a small sword horizontally sheathed, the hilt protruding at his right. The man typically stands tall, confidence exuding from him if not a slight look of superiority, like others in his presence weren't even worth his time. His garb continues downward to his black sandaled feet. On a whole, he wouldn't be worth two glances if you didn't know who he was, but those who know give him the respect his usually cold demeanor demands.
LIKES: - Challenges - Games - Puzzles - Learning - Pushing people's buttons
DISLIKES: - Having his buttons pushed - Obliviousness || Ignorance - Rash behavior - Being outwitted - Being ignored
NEGATIVE TRAITS: - Superiority Complex; He sees himself as above the blubbering idiots and meatheads of the Gotei XIII and is not afraid to tell them to their face that they are a conglomeration of cretinism and bromidic all rolled into one state of being. - Stubborn; He suffers from one might call obstinacy. It, however, is much more than mere stubbornness, it's an inability to make the jump from doing things his way to doing things someone else's way. He knows that he has come up with the best possible solutions to any given problem and is unable to give it up. - Crass; The words 'pulling punches' don't appear side by side in his vocabulary. He states things as they are and revokes all sense of tact. - Introvert; Not so much negative, but leads to negative behavior. As an introvert, he tends to shy away from social gatherings and endures his solitude by jam-packing himself with work. If he were given the choice between spending his day in an Iron Maiden or being lost in a crowd of Gotei XIII members, he'd opt for the maiden every single time. POSITIVE TRAITS: - Constant; in no matter what position he is in he stays rational and doesn't put himself in situations where his judgement may be impaired. He thinks of things in an abstractly linear fashion (as he would describe) as has been drilled into him with centuries of research and scientific process. - White Knight Complex; An odd complex to have when one is introverted. While his primary impulse is to stay away from people, this typically has him walking up to a stranger or maybe even a small group and offering his 'vast pool of knowledge' to aid their cause. - Balance; In all things there is cause and effect. Right and wrong. When there is a push, there is a counter push that maintains equilibrium. Using this view to guide his decisions, he is often given the role of mediator between arguing parties. He plays the devil's advocate to a fault and enjoys destroying any preconceived notions people might have of the world around them whether he believes what he is saying or not. - Student; While he is the lead scientist and captain of the Gotai XIII's Research and Development division, he never misses an opportunity to learn from those who are smarter than he is. He has no qualms with taking the backseat when those who know more about a subject take the lead role. One man can only know so much, after all, and if he knew everything, he wouldn't need the other buffoons playing about the lab like children.
EXTRAS:Nada.
disce quasi semper victurus. WEAPONS:no other weapons other than Zanpakuto... for now. ZANPAKUTO:Manabu:
sealed form: When unreleased, the zanpakuto takes the form of a small, ancient looking wakizashi. It is roughly 50 centimeters long. This simply means that it's shorter than most other blades.
spirit: The spirit of the sword looks like a stag, snow white in appearance with antlers that stretch up and out like the branches of a tree. Though the weight would surely cause it to unbalance, the animal never falters and never staggers under the weight.
inner world: A tranquil island surrounded by water. The island is about the size of half a football field with a single tree in its center. The tree mimics Hoshiro in his muse, bearing fruit in times where he is mentally active and inspired and barren when he hits a block. The scenery and water reflect his inner-state, altering itself as his mood changes.
SHIKAI:Command Phrase: Analyze
description: The appearance of the Wakizashi doesn't change at all. In fact, it seems as though nothing has happened.
type: Analyze;; Manabu is able to analyze an object/reiatsu structure and copy its traits. This includes but is not limited to: momentum by law of inertia, kinetic molecular structure, density, mass, size, temperature, shape, elemental consistancy, conductiveness, polarity, etc. Though it is able to copy reiatsu constructs, it does not mean that it is able to gain inherant powers of whatever it is that it touched, nor does it gain any elemental affinities for changing into said reiatsu structure. Hoshiro is able to, then control the weapon via his reiatsu (spirit) and manipulate it as an extension of himself as long as he maintains contact with part of the zanpakuto. He is able to implement up to two traits at a time.
techniques: Name: Recall Type: Supplimentry Cost: Low Range: Self Description: Manabu, while able to take on the traits of whatever it touches, is also able to retain information of what it has previously touched. This is limited at first to basic things, but as the blade touches more things, its adaptability similarly increases. There is no limit to how much information can be stored within the blade. This information, in turn, can be analyzed by the zanpakuto's spirit and broken down into a complete report for Hoshiro's easy access.
Name: Download Type: Supplimentry Cost: above-average per post per target Range: Target(s) Description: Manabu is (with player consent, otherwise it is a self-targeting ability) able to transfer one of the traits it is currently using and upload it into select reiatsu signatures, altering the properties of the entities. This ability only works on Reiatsu constructed beings (shinigami, hollows, etc.)
Name: Mitosis Type: Supplimentry Cost: below-average per replication Range: Self Description: Manabu is able to literally split itself apart and creates replications of itself in whatever form it is currently inhibiting. This replication is a set duplication. While it retains the traits, it cannot be altered as the original can. These duplications last for three rounds before deteriorating upon themselves.
BANKAI:name: Oshieru
description: The change in Hoshiro's weapon of choice is completely evident now. The weapon melds onto his body, spreading across his skin, clothing him in an indigo suit with steel protection protruding like armor. Over his head is a helmet that allows his violet hair to hang naturally. On either of his hands are gloves. The steel armor and gloves offset the lighter material.
type: Analyze (Advanced);; Manabu is able to analyze an object/reiatsu structure and copy its traits. Unlike the previous form, he is now able to see reiatsu patterns via his helmet. This enables him to see the flow of reiatsu and calculate things such as density, flow, direction, and even pin-point different signatures to the reiatsu. Hoshiro is able to, then control the weapon via his reiatsu (spirit) and manipulate it as an extension of himself as long as he maintains contact with part of the zanpakuto (his suit). He is able to implement up to four traits at a time.
stat upgrades: HAN: (+2) REI: (+2) SEI: (+2) HOH: (+2)
techniques:
Name: Multidimensional Particle Recomposition Field -or- How I Made Your Head Implode with my Mind 101 Type: Passive || Supplimentry Cost: This technique can be activated at any time Bankai is activated. As soon as it is activated, Bankai is given a 5 post limit. It drains a major part of his reiatsu and leaves him drained afterward. Range: football field radius from himself. Description:
Upon activation, the field is created within a football field radius of Hoshiro, expanding in all directions. The first effect of this power is that its reiatsu pressure keeps all targets with a REI stat (or its equivalent) lower than Hoshiro's trapped within the field. This, also, keeps people with a lower REI stat from entering the field. Those with the same REI stat are able to break out, but doing so doesn't stop the ability nor is it simple, the force must be intense in order to penetrate the shell surrounding the field. The second effect is that everything within the field is analyzed simultaneously and since Hoshiro's reiatsu is dispersed through out the entire field, he is considered 'omnipresent' within the field despite retaining his physical form. This simply means that he is always considered to be in contact with everything within the field. He must still make 'physical' contact in order to strike an opponent-- but he can, for example, create an origin point for a kido at a location different from where he is presently standing as long as the origin point is at least 10 meters away from the target of the blast. This also means that he doesn't have to physically be touching his zanpakuto to be considered touching it. The third and final ability of his field is that he is able to alter the surroundings similarly to how he can alter his zanpakuto. By using information stored within his zanpakuto he is able to alter the environment as though it were an extension of his zanpakuto. All changes to environment can be global or selective changes to the environment. Selective changes to the environment are not contained and can still effect the rest of the environment. An example would be superheating a rock with the intensity of the sun. With a high enough intensity of heat as the sun would definitely provide, the entire field could potentially burn to a crisp-- however everyone in the field would suffer the same fate, including Hoshiro himself.
HISTORY:Who would have known? Who could have known? The darkness lasted only for a second-- or so he thought. The first thing the man saw was something blue expanding before him between blotches of green. Or was the green peeking through the blue? It had taken him a moment to register what exactly he was looking at. Trees. The word had sprung into his head. Sky. Such were the first thoughts he could remember, even some four hundred and sixty-three years later, that he had never seen trees or a sky so beautiful. How he had come into existence, who he was, such things hadn't even crossed his mind. He was here, he was him. He frowned, as he gathered his bearings, testing his motor functions and trying to collect himself. He had spent the better part of half an hour just sitting on the grass covered ground, stark naked cross-legged on the ground. His ears perked at the sound of footsteps approaching him and his head turned to see a figure looking back at him. He tilted his head at the new sight, his eyes wide and full of wonder as he took in this new but familiar sight. Four appendages. Two contacting the floor and two hanging limply at the figure's side. This figure looked somewhat similar to himself, as far as he could tell. The figure spoke to him, but he couldn't understand and simply frowned. The figure tried again, pointing at him... or rather, the ground below him? He stood up and looked down. There wasn't anything out of the ordinary on the ground. He looked up at the person again whose face had turned red and was averting its eyes.
What a strange creature.
Having been escorted into the Rukongai, he was draped in cloth-- or that's what he thought it was. It was soft to the touch yet smelled a little musty like it had been sitting on the dirt floor all day. The figure seemed nice enough, but the person was still speaking in gibberish. He sighed, a little exasperated as the person tried again. "A--" He spoke, his voice cracking. He blinked, surprised at the sound that had come out. It hadn't sounded like anything he was expecting. Low-- rough. He tried again with a similar result. The figure, however, seemed to be just as surprised as he was.
"--n't str--n y--se--"
The fog in his mind was starting to clear and comprehension was returning to him as the voice spoke, this time the smoothness of the voice making some sense. He could tell now that the voice of the other was that of a man's, the sound of the rasp creating a gruff tone to the otherwise soothing words. "-- stray spirits n-- g--d--m-- my luck."
"God damn my luck."
The man gave him a dirty look. "So, you can speak after all, and here I thought you were dumb and deaf." He took a sip from the bowl he was holding onto, seated at a wooden table. The house they were both in looked fairly nice considering they were seated on a dirt floor. At least he was, but the man was sitting on another blanket like the one that was wrapped around the former's visage.
"Not so deaf as you might have hoped." He growled "incognizant, that's all."
The man whistled, "Lookit you and your fancy mouth." He teased, taking another sip from his bowl before lowering it with a clatter to the wooden surface. "Though, if I had to guess, I'd say that you're a new spirit."
It was Hoshiro's turn to give a sneer. "Please. To be a spirit one must be dead. I, clearly, am not. I still think, I still feel, I still express." The man chuckled darkly, explaining to him that one may still feel, express, and think and still be dead. Without any solid evidence of his passing or memories of anything before the forest, Hoshiro remained skeptical of the man, even over the next century as he lived in the Rukongai's Zaraki District. Eventually, however, he had to come to grips with the fact that he was, in fact, deceased. Regardless, he couldn't remember anything from his past life no matter how he tried to piece the puzzle together. If the way he acted was an indicator, however, he would have to say that he had probably been someone who had been well-learned in that world, someone who had found joy in exploring and finding solutions to problems in everyday life. He couldn't have been a teacher or professor from the way he couldn't abide being around imbecilic neanderthals. When everything came together, he imagined himself as a slave-driving manager of some sort of an enterprise. The thought didn't leave a sour taste in his mouth at the very least-- though, it didn't seem right. Within the century, he learned everything he could of his position and the culture and protocol within this society of souls. He was thankful of the man he was staying with for allowing him room and board within his own lodgings for the hundred years, but--
"If I stay here another minute, I'll die-- again."
It was half a joke, but half the truth. He had learned everything he could from his current situation, there wasn't any way he was going to be sitting here as he had been with his thumbs twiddling away the decades. And so, his life apart of the Gotei XIII began, as a student. He wasn't the strongest, nor the smartest-- though he would wish you to believe such. In fact, the only place he excelled was at his learning curve. He was able to pick up the mechanics of anything you showed him and was able to understand the theories behind Kido. He graduated in the top 10% of his class and was appointed into the twelfth division. One decade he had been unseated, then he had been in the tenth seat the next decade. Then the nineth the next. It progressed like this for another century before he was third seat. He had grown, by far, faster than any of the others and showed no signs of slowing down, however his promotions came to an end as he was just within grasp of the Lt's seat. Aside from his prowess at developing his techniques, he grew through the research he had been overseeing.
Just two years ago, he was promoted to Captain of the Research and Development Division of the Gotei XIII. What happened to the Old Captain? Good question. No one knew. It was rumored that a superior evolution of Hollow had overtaken him at the time, but it was hard to believe that any Hollow could have been that powerful. It was similarly rumored that he had gone rogue, defecting from the Gotei due to developments in his research, either he didn't feel he had the freedom or he didn't agree with the direction the research was being used. Hoshiro wasn't of high enough rank to know... all he knew was that he was being promoted a month later, skipping through the Lt's seat and promoted directly into Captain. Even to this day, Hoshiro doesn't rightfully know how it happened, but he has in a short amount of time to be just as strict as the previous captain. RP SAMPLE:taken from Flight of Fantasy, RPing Eric V. Malestrom
No incendiaries? Eric could only imagine the destruction these teammates of his were capable of. Something of a smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth. He landed soundlessly on the library roof after the commander. He was a little surprised that things were going so well for them up to this point. After all the trouble these Harbinger class shades had gone through to keep their cover secret, he'd have thought them to be a bit more aware if they had suspected their identities to have been compromised. Even so, it wasn't his problem. Maybe they were less of a 'threat' than the other type of shade he'd run into at Keyrs
"Careful."
He hadn't said a word up to now, and going into hostile territory seemed worthy of a response. The brunette watched as Bel dropped down into the corridor beneath them. Eric was a bit reluctant to follow into a confined area, but he opted to cover his commanding officer's advance. He dropped down through the hatch toward the floor where he gracefully landed soundlessly, a breeze of air pushing out from him as he seemed to float in the air for a moment before dropping. Dust kicked up through the air with the breeze, a visible cloud. Eric simply nodded, not that she could probably see him in this lighting, at her advice about magic.
She hadn't uttered those words before a door opened. Rather, the door was almost torn off its hinges. Eric reacted almost instantly as he skipped backward away from whatever it was that had gotten the jump on them. Not that it mattered. The shadows seemed to come alive at that moment, ripping the floor they were standing on to shreds. He felt the sensation of falling before he realized he was, the descent muddled by the darkness. Eric's form unnaturally righted itself mid fall, his head turning a little to quickly scan his surroundings. It was a large room with rows of books everywhere. Faint light was thrown by lights that were turned on dimly and sporadically through out the library, supplemented by the moonlight filtering through stray windows. The group had fallen from the attic down a story to land on what appeared to be the third story of the building, the next two floors connecting with the bottom in what appeared to be a pair of rafters or balcony. Standing below himself a little distance off was a woman whose laugh echoed through the halls.
"Man, nothing good ever comes from libraries, does it?" He asked himself in a dry baritone drawl. The woman didn't seem to be phased by his remark. Instead, her claws seemed to extend out toward him. Eric moved, his body dancing out of the woman's reach, his feet using the air itself as a platform from which to move. He let out a sharp breath of air at the woman's quip.
"Don't mess with rats." he retorted. He wasn't sure if Emrys and Bel were alright, but he trusted them to be able to handle themselves. After all, they weren't so new to this as he was. Then again, with the number of fights he'd been in, he'd hardly consider himself green either. The woman sneered before raising her arm back to attack again. Eric bent over, readying for the attack as she swiped at him again. The youth twirled between the fingers of her attack, his body parallel with the ground as he narrowly avoided being shredded. A piece of brown hair fell to the ground, attesting to how close she had been to cutting him. His form paused in the air for a moment, his eyes peeking from behind strands of hair before he pushed off at her. Her lips curled into a smirk. Eric frowned at her confidence only to realize too late that something was wrong. Something red formed on the ground in front of the woman. Eric rolled in the air, his trajectory suddenly shifting mid-flight as a line of spikes rose from the ground, threatening to puncture him. Having been thrown off his target, the youth flipped in the air in a sort of cartwheel with his legs before skidding along the ground. The red spikes seemed to melt back into the ground as fast as they had appeared. Something tore, catching Eric by surprise as another spike had dropped from the ceiling down to where he was standing. Thankfully, it was just a scratch, the wind constantly shifting around his body had averted the attack enough for it to not be lethal. His jacket, however, was ruined, the left arm nearly being torn off from the shoulder.
The young man moved immediately, dodging another spike as it fell from the ceiling keeping him on the defensive. His eyes widened as a cluster of fingers appeared in front of him, wire thin and eager to cut. Eric dropped down on his knees, his momentum carrying him forward. He bent his body backward, his torso passing under the woman's claws. Bringing his legs around in a splits, he planted his hands on the ground, his legs raising in the air as he spun his legs, a great tempest of wind blowing away from him, causing books to scatter from the shelves and the woman to raise her arms, the whip-like fingers shrinking back to normal size under the gale. She dropped to her knees on the floor to not be knocked back from the pressure of the wind. The red substance was blown away, splats of it landed on the carpet on the bookshelves, on the walls.
Righting himself, Maelstrom prepared himself and scanned his surroundings more carefully. Bel was nowhere to be found. He let out another sharp breath. "Ksss--" He started.

There is a stat upgrades field in the Bankai section. You need to fill that out, not put the increases beside the stats. If you need to, look at other accepted characters for reference.
