sex: Female | sexual orientation: Heterosexual | race: Shinigami ALIASES:White, Lady Swanguard, Artemisia, Lucy AGE:388 AGE OF APPEARANCE:19 SQUAD:8 RANK:Captain
Everyone is entitled to their own sorrow, FACE CLAIM:RWBY – Weiss Schnee HEIGHT:5’7”
WEIGHT:126 lbs
APPEARANCE: Her long hair is white and pulled back in an off-center ponytail with a snowflake tiara. Typically, her hair will always be found like this, unless she’s just woken up, bathed, or is getting ready for bed. When on duty, she generally wears her shihakusho and her captain’s haori. He sash is a deep shade of crimson, as is the inside of her shihakusho. When in the world of the living, Accalia typically wears white and red as a general color combination, often exchanging red for shades of purple, yellow, or green. Heeled boots, shorts, and loose shirts generally make up her living world ensemble, but her wardrobe does consist of a few sundresses, short skirts, sneakers, and at least one 2-piece swimsuit. She has a pale complexion and ice-blue iris’s. She bears a crooked scar down her left eye.
Her body is rather thin, and straighter than it is curvy, and she appears to be lacking in musculature, but this can be deceiving. Her chest is small enough to stay out of the way but large enough to abvoid being considered flat. She has almost no butt to speak of. Her legs are long and slender, making up the majority of her height. Her facial structure is sharp, but young. Physically, it is apparent that she hasn’t stopped growing yet or reached full maturity. She has lips of a light pinkish color and her cheeks are equally flushed.
She has a bad habit of wearing modern clothing in the SS, even when on duty, so, it’s always possible to see her wandering around the Seireitei in a skirt and tanktop, wearing a pair of slip-on VANS.
for the heart has no metrics LIKES: -Being alone: She likes to think and dream for herself. The best place she knows how to do this is anywhere that she can walk in solitude. -Night: She isn’t fond of daylight, hence her pale complexion. Instead, she enjoys the company of the stars and the moon, appreciating the soft white light far more than the blinding light of the sun. -Anime: Accalia has taken a liking to the Japanese style of Cartoon. She enjoys watching the shows and reading the manga, however her preference tends to lean more towards social series, more than action types, but most anything is good to her. -Winter: Her favorite season. Although many people generally find winter to be a cold and abrasive time of year, she has a genuine feeling of comfort when the air is chilly and the winds carry frozen drops of water.
DISLIKES: –large social gatherings: She can’t stand things like parties and festivals. As mentioned earlier, she appreciates spending time by herself more than she does with great groups of people. In terms of what she can tolerate, the phrase “two’s a party, three’s a crowd” comes to mind. -those who believe their subordinates are expendable: There are some captains, who treat their subordinates -- the people that look up to them, respect them, and follow them everywhere -- like garbage. Kenpachi Zaraki is someone that comes to mind, and even Byakuya Kuchiki at times has relayed this trait. These people disgust her and she’d kill them all if time allowed. Luckily for Byakuya, he seems to have gotten most of his crap together, and as for Kenpachi, well, that bastard left when the Sins started showing up, said something about being tired of waiting around. -greed- The only Sin that she’d kill because it’d be fun. Greed is a trait that so many people carry with them. She watched as greed and the desire for power tore her adoptive family apart. She can’t tolerate anyone that would sell their sister for money, so to speak. Anyone that has such a desire for power, money, and fame that they are willing to harm others to get to will have their name placed on Accalia’s “people I’m going to kill” checklist. -just fucking stupid people....: Stupid people don’t deserve to breath the same air that she does. ‘nuff said.
NEGATIVE TRAITS: -Quietly snooty -Short tempered -Antagonistic
POSITIVE TRAITS:-Dependable -Strong Willed -Kind EXTRAS: Accalia can come across as rather uptight on occasion, but she’s actually a very open and flourishing personality. She’s very mature for being so young by Captain’s standards, taking heavily after both Captain Kyoraku and Captain Ukitake, with a bit of a serious influence from her former teammate, Captain Hitsugaya. She finds it strange that she should become Captain after all three of them have resigned. This very ideal has but a sort of belief in her mind that she needs to carry on the teachings of all three of these captains, although, taking after Shunsui will be hard enough, because Accalia isn’t exactly a lesbian.
In terms of the many other races that make up this world, Accalia has little interest. She opposes most Arrancar, except the few that don’t directly align themselves with their supposed queen. Most of them come across to her as purely evil, having been hollows for far longer periods of time than they were either humans or Arrancar. While the majority of other Shinigami are her top priority in terms of protections and safekeeping, she knows very few of them personally, beside her own squad, that is. She knows of all the seated officers, but certainly hasn’t met them all, and she is also aware that there are spots that still need to be filled. While she doesn’t concern herself with most of the shinigami, she has kept in contact with the resigned captains and vice-captains, keeping them updated on the state of the Soul Society.
She cares deeply for the Quincy, but not really for her own sake. She cares more about why Jūshirō Ukitake cared for them, and why Thurstan had cared for them. Personally, she has little opinion on their presence or their importance, but still, she’ll go out of her way to save a Quincy if only to do so in honor of her friend’s wishes. The Fullbringers and Consecro are fairly low on her list of concerns. Yes, they exist; Yes, some Fullbringers are problematic, however, she doesn’t exactly have time to go ditzing around for worms that the lower seated shinigami can generally deal with.
The vioreds are about as important to her as any other Shinigami. Hollowfied or not, if they do their job, and they keep on her side, she’ll support them. The Sins, however, are another matter entirely. She isn’t really concerned about their presence for the same reason that the Consecro are, but rather she feels that they are disturbance in the world’s balance. Things that go into Hell don’t generally come back, and for good reason. They need to be sent back into that endless black hole from where they came or the whole universe could go to shit.
WEAPONS:She carries a Quincy Seele Schneider on her body, even though its use is impossible.
ZANPAKUTO:name: 月蓮天使 Getsuren Tenshi “Moon-lotus Angel”
sealed form: The Zanpakuto takes on the form of a basic Katana with a white, linen-wrapped hilt. The weapon’s guard is rather eccentric and looks much like a basket guard on a renaissance rapier. It curves around the hilt, protecting the wielder’s hand from the front and top.
spirit: Getsuren Tenshi’s appearance changes upon release. While her base form is that of a pale human female with long, blue-green hair, her shikai form alters that appearance, as does her bankai. Normally, Getsuren wears darker colors, usually purple, accented with light blue or yellow. Her clothing resembles that of a Victorian female crossed with a modern lady: corsets, miniskirts, high socks, top hats, etc. When she enters her Shikai form, she gains great white wings and her hair changes from teal to navy-blue. Her attire changes only slightly, as her clothing loosens, become lighter and wavier. It more closely resembles a post renaissance female, now, much like a pirate. When Accalia releases Getsuren’s Bankai, the spirit’s clothing changes completely, shedding all modern appearances away in an instant. Her hair turns completely white, matching Accalia’s, and her clothing takes the form of an armed renaissance era courtesan while maintaining her Shikai wings. Bankai Appearance
Getsuren’s personality is one in the same in all stages of development, except her expression and demeanor seem to become far more serious in Bankai state. She is playful, funny, and very happy. She doesn’t talk much, but always has a smile on her face. She jokes around a lot and likes to sit down and chat with Accalia whenever she can. She hates being cooped up in her sword form, and often materializes, even with other people around. inner world: Her inner world differs vastly from most others, often altering randomly at different points in her life. It most often takes on the appearance of whatever location she calls home, even to such depth that the people are recreated in her mind. Her inner world was originally Swanguard Castle in North Rukongai, but later changed to the Academy, then to the Squad 13 barracks. For several years, her inner world encompassed the whole the Great Britain, then changed again to the Squad 10 barracks. Now, after becoming Captain of Squad 8, Accalia’s inner world is the whole of Seireitei.
SHIKAI:release command: Bōkyaku ni Karera no kokoro Sakeru (Rend their hearts to oblivion) Getsuren Tenshi
description: The character’s physical appearance changes in a simple way: all her clothing becomes white with red highlights and features. Her Zanpakuto, however, alters its form to take on a straight rapier blade with an alternate guard and hilt. The guard takes on the form of a revolving cylinder with several ‘U’ shaped notches, each of a different color. There are six notches in all, but only four of those are colored. Around the cylinder are four blade like arches that extend downward towards the wielder’s hand. Whenever an ability is used the cylinder rotates and the selected color is highlighted, effecting the entire weapon. There are four available abilities, or colors, and these cannot be used simultaneously, but instead become the weapon’s primary ability upon selection. Getsuren Tenshi Shikai
type: Melee, Ice, Duelist, Antipersonnel
techniques: For: Shikai Name: Sakeru Shiro: Tatsu “White Rend: Sever” Type: Offensive/Passive Cooldown: Up to 3 posts Duration: Up to 3 posts Cost: low Range: Melee Description: This technique can be abbreviated to “Shiro” or “Tatsu”. The entire blade lights up with white runes, and every color switch in the revolving guard glows white. Ivory reiatsu comes off the edges of the sword like steam, but leaves a trail of white light behind it when it moves. This is the first rend and the most powerful offensively. Anything struck by the blade immediately begins to freeze over as long as the target and weapon are in contact with each other. A HAN higher than Accalia’s SEI slows the growth of the ice. A HAK higher than her SEI can easily break the ice off of the affected area.
For: Shikai Name: Sakeru Kiiro: Kushi “Yellow Rend: Skewer” Type: Offensive/Passive Cooldown: Up to 3 posts Duration: Up to 3 posts Cost: low Range: Melee Description: This technique can be abbreviated to “Midori” or “Kushi”. The yellow rend causes the blade to glow with a yellow-green reiatsu. This reiatsu is released on the blade’s tip in the form of yellow steam. Anything struck with Getsuren’s tip experiences a burning sensation similar to that of touching dry-ice. This burning sensation affects the target in the same way that dry ice would, immediately burning the flesh away and leaving an incredibly cold feeling after the blade has made contact. Essentially, any strike from this blade made directly to the body causes instantaneous frostbite in that wound. A HAN higher than Accalia’s SEI can easily shrug off the frostbite, but will still feel the incredible cold left by the blade.
For: Shikai Name: Sakeru Kurenai: Shīrudo “Crimson Rend: Shield” Type: Defensive/Passive Cooldown: Up to 3 posts Duration: Up to 3 posts Cost: medium Range: Melee Description: This technique can be abbreviated to “Kurenai” or “Shīrudo”. The entire blade takes on a red hue and a deep red reiatsu can be seen flowing around the weapon. This color immobilizes the blade and renders it unmovable by anyone except Accalia, allowing her to parry and block the heaviest blows. However, a HAK higher than her SEI can press through the defense. Note that she must be touching her weapon for this color to remain active and releasing the weapon will revert to normal; hence, she can’t pin someone to a surface and leave the weapon there so her target can’t move. When she successfully blocks an attack with her Zanpakuto, red reiatsu flairs out from the blade in a crescent arc, increasing the range of the block to encompass her whole body and making it theoretically possible to deflect Cero and Kido.
For: Shikai Name: Sakeru Sorairo: Shirizokeru “Sky-blue Rend: Repulse” Type: Utility Cooldown: Up to 2 posts dependent on how many repulse symbols are created in a short burst. 2 symbols per cooldown post with a maximum of 4 in one burst. Cost: low Range: Short to medium Description:This technique can be abbreviated to “Sorairo” or “Shirizokeru”. The blade of the weapon reverts to/remains the normal color. This color allows Accalia to place a snowflake shaped symbol on any "surface" within a short distance away from her. "Surface" includes anything that a soul reaper is able to use as a platform, even in midair. The symbol dissipates outward and launches anything on it away. This can be used to propel Accalia into her next attack, instantly alter Accalia's trajectory of movement, disrupt an opponent's recovery, or simply launch an enemy from his stance and force him to recover. This can also be used to simply create a platform in midair to push off of during an attack sequence. Symbol size varies but is usually focused on a single human sized target, but can be expanded to cover the size of a large hollow or menos.
Notes: All colors can be seamlessly swapped through in sequence without announcement. No two colors can be active at the same time. It does take approximately 2 seconds for a color change to take place. Passive effects cooldown reflects duration of use. Ex: White Rend is activated and can be held for up to three posts. If it is held for the full three posts, then the cooldown is three. If, in the same post that white is activated, it is alternated for red then green, the cooldown is only one post because the passive was only used in one post.
BANKAI:
name: 白い竜月蓮天使 Shiraryū Getsuren Tenshi “White-dragon Moon-lotus Angel) description:When Accalia activates her Bankai, she holds her sword to her chest with the blade pointing straight up in front of her face. For a split second, her entire body is engulfed in her white reiatsu with strands of purple coloration. The reiatsu then disperses outward and reveals her alternate outfit. She wears a pale blue bolero jacket over a similarly colored thigh-length dress with a piece of black lace making up the neckline of the dress. The inside of the bolero is red and the sleeves turn blue as it gets closer to her wrists. It has a crest on the back that bears a resemblance to a snowflake. She also wears white, wedge-heeled, mid-calf boots that are also red on the inside. From her back, flowing strands of silver reiatsu sprout and wave in the air, creating a sort of winged effect, although, the wings appear to be constructed from visibly chilled air. The weapon itself differs only slightly from her Shikai state in that the multicolored revolving guard now only has two colors: Violet and Silver-white. In her Bankai state, Getsuren Tenshi’s abilities are rumored to mirror the power of Hyōrinmaru; so, some suspect that the two Zanpakuto may have some sort of connection.
type: Full Body, Ice
stat upgrades: REI +3, SEI +2, HOH +3
techniques: For: Bankai Name: Sakeru Murasaki: Kettō (Violet Rend: Duel) Type: Offensive/Defensive/Passive Cooldown: Up to 4 posts Duration: Up to 4 posts Cost: Medium to moderately high. Range: Melee/Extremely short-Medium Description: An advancement of Crimson Rend. This technique causes the runes to glow a deep purple, emitting a fluctuating wave of reiatsu from the base of the blade just above the revolving guard. Similarly to Crimson Rend, when the blade is struck during a successful block or parry, a crescent arc of purple reiatsu flairs outward, encompassing the full length of her body. Unlike Crimson Rend, however, this crescent flair of violet reiatsu can be released with a return slash, affecting the enemy similarly to Getsuga Tensho, but on a much, much smaller scale and with a very limited range. Essentially, the reach of the attack is just beyond melee range, and it can only be used after the blade has made contact with something else. When enough energy is put into a counter attack the range of the active ability is increased to encompass a medium range of about 50 feet.
For: Bankai Name: Sakeru Gin : Shimo (Silver Rend: Frost) Type: Offensive/Passive Cooldown: Up to 4 posts Duration: Up to 4 posts Cost: Low Range: Melee Description: Literally a combination of White Rend and Yellow Rend. The entire blade lights up with white runes. Silver reiatsu comes off the edges of the sword like steam, but leaves a trail of white light behind it when it moves. Anything struck by the blade immediately begins to freeze over as long as the target and weapon are in contact with each other. A HAN 2 higher than Accalia’s SEI slows the growth of the ice. A HAK 2 higher than her SEI can easily break the ice off of the affected area. Anything cut with Getsuren experiences a burning sensation similar to that of touching dry-ice. This burning sensation affects the target in the same way that dry ice would, immediately burning the flesh away and leaving an incredibly cold feeling after the blade has made contact. Essentially, any strike from this blade made directly to the body causes instantaneous frostbite in that wound. The frostbite will slowly expand outward from the point of origin. A HAN 2 higher than Accalia’s SEI can easily shrug off the frostbite, but will still feel the incredible cold left by the blade.
For: Bankai Name: Tōkengetsu (The Frozen Crescent-moon) Type: Offensive/Active Cooldown: 9 posts Duration of Weather Alteration: 4 posts Cost: High Range: Melee to Long Description: Accalia points her blade straight up into the air and as she does so, the sky grows dark and cloudy. Snow begins to fall and the temperature drops to -20c. In the very instant that the world feels the sudden cold of Tōkengetsu, Accalia swings the blade in a downward arc until its tip makes contact with the ground or whatever she is using as a platform. A vast wave of multicolored ice erupts from that point, cascading out towards the intended target. Everything in the path of the ice is flash-frozen; even the air turns into billions of crystalline shards. This attack can be used twice consecutively without initiating cooldown, the first strike being the downward swing and the second being a vicious uppercut. This technique takes very little preparation -- a second or two at minimum -- to use and can be combined with a flurry of basic attacks. When the attack is taken at melee range, a HAN of 2 higher than Accalia’s HAK can block the strike, sending the ice flying up and around the target; a HAK of 2 higher than her SEI can also do this; a HOH of 2 higher than her BUK has the best chance to dodge the attack. Note that if the target’s stats do no reach this standard it is inadvisable to engage in close range combat when the weather altering pre-effects appear. In other words, if you value your life: Get the fuck away.
Note: This attack can be used while the passives are active, carrying those effects with any direct melee strike from this tech.
For: Bankai Name: Shiraryū no Sakeru: Getsumen Hisame (The White Dragon’s Rend: Lunar Ice Storm) Type: Offensive/Passive Cooldown: Up to 9 posts (3 cooldown per active post standard) Duration: Up to 3 posts Cost: High Range: Melee to Long Description: This technique can be abbreviated to “Getsumen Hisame”. The strength of this technique doubles when the moon is out. When activated, Accalia’s frosted-air ‘wing’ flush outward then appear to be sucked into Getsuren Tenshi. While active, a constant blizzard of ice and snow engulfs the weapon, lashing out violently with every slash, thrust, or general movement of the sword. More power can be put into these swings, launching waves of ice and snow across great distances. The ice rapidly engulfs anything it comes into contact with and instantaneous frostbite also ensues. This ice is not nearly as easily broken as it is in the Silver Rend and the frostbite is not so easily dissipated. A HAN of 3 or higher than Accalia’s SEI is necessary to either dissipate the frostbite or vastly decrease the spread of the ice. A HAK of 3 or higher than her SEI is required to easily shatter the ice effect.
And all of it… irreplaceable. HISTORY:Accalia’s heritage is relatively unknown. Unfortunately for her, she died at birth, and, through what ex-captain Kisuke Urahara later described as a reishial anomaly, was reformed in the Soul Society at 16 years of age. She was found completely naked, cloaked in her long white hair lying beside a pond in a noble family’s garden. The noble house, the Swanguard, was one of lesser nobility that resided in North Rukongai at the time. They watched over district 2, 白池, Shiraike “White Pond”. At the time of her “birth”, the Swanguard were undergoing heavy changes to their house structure, sacrificing their High Council for a single Head of House due to a rapid series of assassinations ordered by an unknown enemy within the last 50 years.
When the Head of House awoke that morning, November 17th, he had gone out for his daily walk in the house gardens. As his feet carried him along the cobble stone pathways, he noticed something odd by the coy pond in the garden’s center. Beneath the Everbloom, a sacred cherry tree that blossoms year round, but is cursed to never produce fruit, a thin pale form was curled. The Head of House, Cailean Swanguard, immediately rushed to the Accalia’s side, reached down and touched her shivering body, and immediately called for the nurses. The maids and nurses came and, by Cailean’s orders, carried the girl inside the building. Cailean recalls the incident in his journal.
“I thought that I had stumbled upon an angel fallen from Heaven, where the Soul King resides. The petals of the Everbloom had cloaked her pale flesh, protecting it from the cold. The sacred tree, whose petals never fall, left its blossoms to rain down upon her. Her hair was white as snow and her eyes held the very sky within them. She was Artemisia. The frozen angel looked to me and tried to speak, but no words escaped her lips…”
The journal entry goes on to describe her physical form, which is a topic that needn’t be touched on at the moment. However, the last part you read has some purpose to it. Along with this “reishial anomaly” came some serious drawbacks. Accalia lacked the ability to speak, and even things like walking were difficult for some time. It took almost three years for her to reach the base capabilities of a human soul. She’d finally come to a point where here existence was more than a burden to her saviors.
During her first several months in Swanguard Castle, which sat on an island in the middle of a large lake, Accalia was treated like of their own. She was given a name, most importantly, which would serve as the name she used to this very day. Along with her name, she was given a position and a home. The position bestowed upon her was that of the Head’s Maid. She was not the head maid, mind you, but rather the personal server of Cailean. He claims to have given her this position so that he could keep as close of an eye on her as possible, keeping her safely guarded at all times.
During her rehabilitation period, Accalia grew very close to Cailean. He believed they shared a special bond of some sort, and considered it destiny that they had met in such a way. He taught her all the languages he knew while her mind was still young. It wasn’t difficult, since a single tongue had not yet been drilled into her brain. She quickly picked up both Welsh and English then German, Japanese, and Korean. Almost 10 years after her birth, she had a solid understanding of Italian, Spanish, and French as well. Along with language training, she was taught advanced math, basic literature, and much about human history and myth.
At the end of her three year period, Cailean and the other members of the house began to notice her massive amounts of spirit energy. She had no understanding of the subject matter, as it was still so new to her, but they still began to urge Cailean to begin some basic training. So, when she turned 20, Cailean began her lessons in melee combat. Initally, he only taught her Kendo, but after six months of training, he offered her a slew of new fighting techniques. The first one that Accalia chose was swordsman rapier and saber training. This combat style consisted of the use of a single sword with a seven-inch hilt with a guard and either a straight or slightly curved blade. More often than not, Accalia chose to use a straight blade over a curved one.
By the end of her swordsmanship training, Accalia had almost mastered her chosen technique, able to defeat her mentor again and again. Yet, there was still more to be done. She began her kido and reiatsu control lessons at the age of 21. It didn’t take her long to get a descent control over her abilities and was able to control the flow of her reiatsu almost effortlessly after another eight months of training. She’d even been able to use basic Kido up to level 40 without any official training from within the Seireitei within the next 11 years. However, it hadn’t taken long for the Gotei 13 to take notice of a powerful reiatsu flaring outside the walls of the Court of Pure Souls.
Not long after that, at the age of 33, Accalia was introduced to the ex-captain of squad 13, Jūshirō Ukitake, who had come to greet her personally. It was an unexpected honor to be seen personally by any captain of the Gotei. She was honored and incredibly surprised. Jūshirō was kind enough to let her relax before explaining why he had come. While drinking tea that the servants of the house had made, Accalia was told that the Gotei had taken notice of her training and requested that she come to the academy for an official evaluation of skill. She happily excepted the offer, and immediately began to pack, an act to which Captain Ukitake addressed as unnecessary, informing Accalia that she could take her time, as the Captian would be staying with the Swanguard for several days to oversee her transfer.
In the meantime, her relationship with Cailean Swanguard had grown to such an extent that her eyes filled with tears when she realized that she was leaving him. He had been her only friend and the only person she truly knew in the world. She was born into a 16 year old body, with the consciousness of a young adult, but knew nothing about herself. She was about to leave behind everything she knew and loved.
Three days had passed and Accalia was preparing to leave for the Seireitei with Jūshirō, when another assassin broke into the Swanguard Castle and mortally wounded Cailean. If it hadn’t been for Accalia’s training, she never would have been able to defend him from the assassin, who she killed with a blade through the throat after blasting his arm away with Shakkahō. She ran to her mentor and only friend, who’s body lie crippled beneath the Everbloom. Accalia held him there in her arms until the moment his last breath escaped his lungs.
One of the servants had written his feelings down in a journal after witnessing the scene.
“It’s fitting that she should watch him go in the same place that he found her 18 years ago. The Everbloom’s petals rained down on their bodies, just like they did on that day. Tomorrow is the anniversary of her arrival. This certainly makes one wonder whether she is a blessing on our house, or a curse.”
And it did. After Cailean’s death, Accalia was eager to leave, but a duty kept her there. Captain Ukitake assured her that he would personally send a team out to investigate the assassinations and find the culprits. With this promise clinging to her heart, Accalia nervously left for the academy. Upon her arrival, she was immediately given a test on her skill level. Despite all her training, she only merited a place in the advanced class of the second session students. She spent sixty years at the academy, returning to the Everbloom once a year to pay her respects. During her time as a student of the Seireitei, she advanced beyond her companions and set herself at the top of the class.
Her combat skills were phenomenal, and her Kido abilities were clean and up to par. Rather than advance her ability to use Kido, she slowly, one by one, perfected the use of the ones that she knew. She made few friends at the academy and only one that was of any relative importance in her life. Thurstan Trascis, a young man from South Rukongai, came to be her closest friend and they spent most of their time together. Sadly, Accalia graduated six years before he did, and their friendship was cut off rather quickly. First, she was assigned to squad 13 under Captain Ukitake, who took her in as his 5th seat.
During her time in squad 13, Accalia didn’t actually do much of anything. She watched people come and go, watched Thurstan make 6th seat of Squad 6. There was little to nothing going on at the time, at least, for several years. During her fourth year in squad 13, Accalia was ordered to eliminate Quincy during the Great War. Although her orders were clear, Captain Ukitake hinted at something when they spoke before she left. He had spoken to Thurstan of squad six, who was leaving to do the same thing and they had agreed on something. Jūshirō’s words were simple enough. “Meet up with the man from squad 6. I want you to assist him in any way you can.”
And so Accalia did. When she came to the world of the living through the senkaimon, she searched everywhere she could for Thurstan, eventually finding him in Great Britain. To her surprise, Ukitake had requested that Thurstan help save the Quincy from extinction. Thurstan, who had been publicly against the war from the very beginning, was the perfect choice. Accalia moved from place to place with him for the next 23 years while they followed the orders that Captain Ukitake had given them: They saved as many Quincy as they could and sent them into hiding. The Quincy were grateful, but had it not been for the Captain’s constant efforts to hide their actions, both Thurstan and Accalia would have been court martialed and executed.
When the official war ended, both of them returned home to their respective squads, but Captain Ukitake continued to order Accalia out on missions to check up on the surviving Quincy. The Captain had erased most of their records from the main database and, with Captain Shunsui’s help, kept his subordinate out of harm’s way. Again, life for Accalia returned to normal for a long period of time. Nearly 100 years of her life seemed to vanish in the blink of an eye. Her body changed very little in that time, but she had no understanding of it. She knew that she would age much slower than humans, but she never experienced the growth from child to adult, so she would never understand the human mortality.
It wasn’t until the disappearance of shinigami in both Rukongai and the world of the living became increasingly more frequent and were occurring on larger scales that she began to notice. First, several captains and their lieutenants disappeared in Rukongai, which prompted a heavy push for investigation into the situation, which rapidly grew in importance after that event. Her best friend at the time, Thurstan, vanished during a recon mission to the real world, and never returned to the soul society, probably due to the same reason that the captains and vice-captains disappeared two years earlier. At this point, Accalia was being transferred to another squad because she’d finally perfected the interactions with her Zanpakuto and was preparing for Bankai training. Squad 10 was welcoming enough and Captain Isshin Shiba gave her the position of third seat beneath Rangiku Matsumoto. Isshin was a great man and Accalia looked up to him with such respect. It was in the tenth division that Accalia’s personality began to really flourish. She spent most of her time with Lieutenant Matsumoto who helped her really come out of her shell.
For a time, she was the sole third seat of squad 10 until Toshiro Hitsugaya, whom she got along with very well, took his place as the other third seat. It wasn’t uncommon to have two shinigami hold the same seat in a squad. The same thing was happening back in division 13 at around the same time. Accalia’s life continued as usual when there was no threat of war in the Soul Society. Her daily duties were performed and she trained on a daily basis, slowly but surely approaching the ability to use Bankai. She took little notice when Kenpachi Zaraki took his place as captain of Squad 11, and even less notice when Gin Ichimaru replaced the just-retired captain of Squad 3. These things didn’t matter much to her. From experience, leadership changed regularly and it was just something to get used to.
About 20 years ago, however, Isshin disappeared in the world of the living, and Toshiro took his place as Captain. Both he and Accalia had achieved Bankai by this time, but he was simply more qualified for the position of captain. Accalia was upset, yes, but had more important things to worry about.
The last member of the Swanguard family had died from disease that year and the noble house was left leaderless. They came to her, the only person left that carried the name of Swanguard, and asked her to become the Head of House. It took Accalia three weeks to make the decision, and when she accepted the servants felt comfortable enough to show her the last words written by the recently deceased.
“I, Kain Swanguard, have many regrets. The ordered assassination of my brothers, father, and grandfather are all resting at the tip of my conscious mind. I am an evil man, and deserve the death that is coming to me. When I die, take this letter to Accalia Swanguard and ask her to forgive me of my sins and look after the remnants of my dying house…”
Of course, Accalia could not forgive her adoptive brother for the things he’d done, for the death of Cailean, but she had her honor and her pride. She returned to Swanguard Castle for a time and passed through the ceremony to become Head of the House. She would forever be known by her house as Lady Swanguard. Unable to stay and lead the house, she left the duties to a steward that she trusted greatly and returned to the Gotei 13. 17 years passed by, and little took place in the Soul Society, until the betrayal of Aizen. The war followed soon after, and Accalia killed her fair share of arrancar. When the great battle was taking place in Karakura town and its fake replica, Accalia was tasked with the defense of the Soul Society, should any hostile forces attack while the Gotei were in disarray. There was nothing.
The war had ended almost as quickly as it had begun and with the ending of the war came the beginning of a new era. Captain Hitsugaya stepped down and was replaced by Captain Jin Hoshigawa. Most of the captains stepped down, except for Byakuya Kuchiki, who refused to abandon his duties. The Soul Society was going through a complete reformation and when Captain Shunsui of squad eight decided to “take a drinking break” from his duty as captain, the position was opened up and Accalia was asked to become the new leader of the squad. Her reply was instant and positive. To this day, she has worn her haori with pride.
