ALIASES:
AGE:

FORM:
ADJUCHAS
APPEARANCE
THE SANDMAN
FACE CLAIM:
MEGAMAN BATTLE NETWORK - DESERTMAN.EXE
HEIGHT:
Varies - main sand body tends to be 11 feet 7 inches tall.
WEIGHT:
Varies - no less than 7 tons of dense sand
APPEARANCE:
Desertman appears to be a cascading mass of sand; he normally appears as just a pillar of sand rising from the ground, with a continuous flow of sand coming down his form. The motion of his sand body is identical to the motion of water, only slower and releasing a cloud of sandy dust that clings to him as he moves. Although he appears to be limbless, Desertman is always surrounded by sand, and can spawn huge hand-like limbs to use for a variety of purposes though they are neither dexterous nor swift. These hands are often seen near him and there's always only one or two, never more. He seems to lack other "limbs", however. Desertman has a strange face, formed as a crude mouth-like cavity as a depression in his false body and two similar depressions shaped like eye sockets, within which are glowing quartz gems that he uses to see. He seems to concentrate sand atop his head in the shape of a simple Mayan crown, which has the consistency of sandstone for it's enhanced density. Apart from these simple qualities Desertman is largely featureless.
BRIEF PERSONALITY
DESERT HEART
LIKES:
~ Playing in sand. Also fond of sand-sculpting, since he's good at it.
~ Burying shiny objects and people inside of his sandy body. Contains vast amounts of gold and old treasures inside his body, mixed with skeletons collected through this hobby.
~ Enjoys stealing fancy possessions or weapons. Very greedy.
~ Because he basically eats stone or metal to replenish his sand body, he absolutely loves buildings to break down, even though he can only contain a limited amount of sand in his body. He is a glutton known to turn entire streets full of houses into tiny deserts until he's sick from over-eating. Doesn't nourish his hunger for life though.
~ Although asexual, Desertman likes to make rather perverted sand sculptures of naked women, perhaps being a vestige of his human sex drive from his previous life.
~ Encasing humans in sand, then turning it solid into sandstone; this creates a perfect living statue of the human and preserves the facial expression they had before dying. On a less morbid note, Desertman will sometimes just tickle people with his sand limbs if he's in a lighter mood or well fed recently.
DISLIKES:
~ Absolutely hates water and rain; both interfere with his sand body and sand limbs, greatly slowing them both and weakening him.
~ Doesn't like loudness or annoyances, but is indifferent to silence.
~ Cold weather forces his strange organs to work harder, making him very irritable during winter. Despises cold seasons.
~ Doesn't like ugly people or those with bland facial expressions; they are useless for his hobby of encasing people in sand to turn them into statues.
~ Doesn't like bird-type or wind elemental enemies, for their ability to evade or blow away his sand.
~ Hates long chases or struggles, prefers to trap or surprise enemies for quick and easy finishes.
NEGATIVE TRAITS:
~ Very lethargic and lazy. He's sometimes can't even be bothered to protect himself.
~ Can be oblivious to his surroundings; he is often narrow minded and focused on simple goals, so much so he may not even notice a danger.
~ Rarely thinks. Desertman is commonly just... chilling, to put it simply.
~ Somewhat cowardly, shrinking in the faces of dangers he's aware of. He's known to disguise himself as sand and just hide away.
POSITIVE TRAITS:
~ Despite being lazy and unwilling to think, if particularly moved Desertman is exceptionally creative and can have deceptively sound strategies that defy his illusion of being dimwitted.
~ Although unlikely to ever really go after anything that can't be easily obtained, when Desertman finally is enraged or driven, he becomes relentless.
~ Highly artistic. Puts most sculptors to shame. But can only work with sand, sadly...
EXTRAS:
Collects treasures, fish, and weaker living things to trap in his body, literally mummifying organisms he takes in. When his main body is damaged, anything from ancient pirate treasures to fossils can be sent flying out of his body in reckless abandoned. Beat him up to get rich quick!
WEAPONRY/POWERS
SAND BURIALS
WEAPONS:
Makes stuff from sand.
HOLLOW POWERS:
type: Sand
ability: Desertman is all about sand. Inside of his perpetually flowing body is a large, rough quartz sphere roughly the side of a very small car surrounded by his tremendous body of sand. He has no normal organs, but this quartz ball acts as his "life support" - it's his brain, his heart if you could call it that, everything. And if it's ever damaged he experiences extreme pain and disorientation... but it's also very difficult to penetrate his sand body even with the use of water or wind, making it difficult to reach except for when he is weakened and/or fatigued. It takes weeks for him to heal this sphere if it is cracked or broken, and destroying it entirely kills Desertman.
Desertman has the ability to manipulate sand near his main body. He has a pretty good range for this ability, but generally the closer the sand is to him the easier it is for him to move it, as sand manipulated from afar is much slower and less sturdy than sand manipulated closer to his main body. Alternatively Desertman can just use the sand of his main body for his techniques and general sand manipulation, but this gives him less protection for his core, which puts him at risk if done in excess. Fortunately for him Desertman can turn stone and metal into sand by covering and "digesting" it sort of like an amoeba, although his body's maximum capacity for sand is seven tons. Even if at maximum he can manipulate sand outside his body, but he's strongest when attacking with sand from his main body.
Basically, Desertman pretty much just manipulates sand and makes it from rocks and stuff.
techniques:
For: Hollow techniques
Name: Lion's Maw
Type: Offensive
Cooldown: Two posts
Cost: Moderate
Range: Up to nineteen feet, but must remain attached to the ground, thus ineffective against airborne enemies.
Description: Against an enemy on the ground, Desertman may morph one of his sand-hands into a sandstone sculpture of a lion's head with a spikey, flame-like mane launched forward with devastating force by a jet of sand blasting out behind it. It can't change direction once fired and has a very short range for a projectile-esque move, nor can it be shot into the air, limiting it's usage and effectiveness. However this move is extremely effective, as the Lion's head has greatly exaggerated teeth, cutting enemies and striking them with tremendous force. This is basically the equivalent of shooting a statue at someone. Again, can only strike enemies on the ground.
For: Hollow Techniques
Name: Antlion Tunnel
Type: Trap/Offensive
Cooldown: Five posts
Cost: High
Range: Three foot radius around trap
Description: Requires a hole filled with sand, and can only be used on the ground. Desertman creates a concealed vortex of sand hidden by a thin, unmoving surface layer. The moment an enemy steps onto the trap they are sucked down into the vortex as deep as it goes. The sand swirls within the tunnel so forcefully it acts as an abrasive, enabling it to grind flesh and erode stone, making it dangerous to be trapped within. However, most enemies can probably fight their way out of this trap without receiving major damage, making it best to use when the enemy is tired. Also good for tiring feisty opponents and wearing down the defenses of armored foes. Difficult to use, as there is no guarantee the enemy will step on the trap, and it requires a lot of sand to use. It's possible to escape from this with physical or spiritual abilities, but whatever stat the enemy is using needs to be higher than Desertman's SEI (used to determine the strength of his sand in all uses) to escape in one post. An enemy can escape in two posts even if they are weaker, but they will probably take more damage. The trap lasts only two posts whether someone falls in it or not.
For: Hollow Techniques
Name: Sand Wall
Type: Defensive
Cooldown: One post
Cost: Low
Range: 1 - 30 feet
Description: Desertman creates a simple wall from hyper concentrated sand, taking on extreme toughness for a few seconds before collapsing back into normal sand. The presence of his reiatsu in the sand wall further bolsters it's durability. It mimics the shape of ancient style bricks although it's just a visual trick. The sand wall is quite defensible and offers protection from most venues of attack, even things Desertman is usually weak against like water or wind. However, he can only make one sand wall at a time, leaving him vulnerable against flanking attacks and feint strikes when using it.
For: Hollow Techniques
Name: Burial Stone
Type: Offensive
Cooldown: Three posts
Cost: Moderate
Range: Mid to long range, varies
Description: Requires a charge time for one post in which Desertman spends some time condensing a large amount of sand into a dense slab of crude sandstone. The exceptionally heavy stone is then shot into the air by a geyser of sand beneath it. If aimed correctly, it can be sent plowing into airborne enemies like this. Alternatively, once shot into the air it can be guided from above by Desertman's sand manipulation, allowing him to control where it falls. If this is done it will fall on the next post after it is shot into the air, taking some enemies by surprise potentially as a delayed attack.
OTHER
ARID PAST
HISTORY:
Sandman was originally a Spanish sculptor who moved to Latin america to see the ancient architecture of the Mayans, but developed an obsession with their entire culture as well and became an equivalent of an archaeologist, using his family's fortune to accumulate many artifacts and Mayan relics. He brought medicine and food to the locals in exchange for their tolerance, but exposure to the new continent's diseases without rest or relief led him to gain numerous diseases, and refusal to rest in pursuit of more Mayan findings led him to die in one of his excavation sites at middle age. He was delirious at the time of his death, becoming a deranged demi-hollow bound to an old Mayan pyramid.
Memories of his past vanished in the face of brutal dementia-inducing disease, so he was left with only recent memories; Desertman's distorted knowledge of the Mayans became all he knew, shaping his body as he formed into a Hollow. He didn't believe he was a mayan, or anything really... he didn't know he was anything to be quite honest. As time passed however and his body of sand grew with numerous devourings, Desertman gained a sense of individuality and rediscovered his undying passion for art, using his newfound power to make sand sculptures and amass ancient treasures in an internal hoard within his body of sand. He lost his knowledge of Spanish mostly as well as other languages, but retained his knowledge of Mayan, causing him to either speak it or nothing at all. As one can imagine few conversations can be had when all one possesses is a dead language.
But as the many years passed, Desertman regained linguistic skills. He disguised himself as simple sand and quietly listened to humans when waiting for a good one to eat - hearing endless speech for centuries in his hunts all around the world gave him a pretty decent understanding of most words and dialects, and he became interested in the treasures of foreign cultures, often stealing human treasures, gold, and precious objects. When migrating to Hueco Mundo as a Gillian, and one of the rare few to become a menos on Earth, Desertman began to collect the Quartz branches in Hueco Mundo that were irregularly shaped. He also began to collect the masks of mummified Hollows he consumed as a hobby too, collecting bones in the desert when no gold or treasure could be had.
Although fond of eating souls and his own power just like any other self-respecting Hollow, Desertman's passion for treasure, culture, and rarity continues to grow stronger as he matures as a Hollow, giving him many interests abroad both in the Arrancar and the Shinigami. To this day he generally pursues oddities and strange races alike, making molds of living beings with his sand in his spare time to resume his art as a sculptor, despite not even remembering that he was a sculptor in life.
RP SAMPLE:
There were passages beneath this castle no one maintained any longer. In ancient Narv, this castle was erected by lost arts... it's depths were left unused when the castle itself became the official crown of the city under Gaius, whom knew the secrets laying below. He and Rynor were below within it's lost tunnels; there were no more tile floors, as they had gone so deep the ground was now strange dirt littered with ancient bone, which could be barely seen in the darkness even with the light of the blazing torch Gaius held. "These are the burial grounds... the catacombs of my family, the lost nobles of Kerestitcher." Gaius spoke, gesturing to the walls... carved into them were spaces, filled with skeletal remains he was careful not to touch. Fangs could be seen in many of the skulls, as well as the occasional third and inhumanly shaped eye socket placed in the forehead of some skulls.
Together, as Lord and bodyguard, they proceeded deep until upon entering through a crude rectangular entrance, found themselves in what seemed to be an endless expanse of darkness the torchlight could not possibly illuminate. Gaius stepped over to the worn, uneven wall near the entrance, placing the torch in a charred iron slot he had installed himself. "No rest is more beneficial to a Vampire than that of one in their home soil... this dirt contains my ancestors." Gaius revealed, giving Rynor a exasperated look. He was quite tired... both from sucking the poison of the shade from his wife, and his many sudden skirmishes that day. Times were getting hard. "My family sprang from those who built this castle. I tell you because you should know why we are here, and I trust you to keep this secret... my love." Gaius expressed as he got on his hands and knees after picking a spot, and began to dig... the spot he was plowing up at with his powerful hands seemed disturbed recently before, by Gaius himself. "Kindly help me dig a hole, please." He asked. He felt fatigue in his arms already... something so unusual, given that he almost always commanded vast strength enough to wrestle with transformed Lycans, his most hated foes. Blood had only gone so far, and coming here was clearly an unusual act of desperation. He'd hoped Rynor would not be terribly stressed by it all.
