Shinichi threaded a hand through his hair, feeling very depressed. He walked very slowly, slow enough to warrant people taking second glances, if the constant stares he was receiving wasn’t an indicator. He stopped and laid a hand on a nearby building, staring into it’s window and into his own face in it’s reflection. His eyes were filled with disappointment, mostly in himself, but also how he nearly failed the case he was returning from. He seemed frozen, staring at his own reflection for nearly 10 minutes, before finally breaking the stare and continuing his sluggish pace towards his office again.
It was supposed to be a simple case, he actually managed to deduce the culprit practically instantaneously. Everything was going very smoothly, however, when he finally confronted the killer with the police inspector, that’s where things started to go south. The accused became very hysterical, and ended up pulling the murder weapon, a simple pistol, on the two of them. Nearby police officers tried to help, but it only made the man more agitated. How could he have overlooked the weapon? He should’ve known that the killer still had the weapon on his person since they didn’t find it anywhere on the premises. Shinichi was lucky to have managed to disarm the man by kicking a nearby bottle into his hand, knocking the gun away. He still couldn’t help but beat himself up over overlooking such a simple detail. As he walked, he chuckled hollowly at a phrase he had tried to stick by as a detective. ‘Always expect the unexpected...’
