It’s wasn’t that Ryou had not picked up on her issues, in reality it was simply that he was trying to get Rukia to admit that she had them herself. The man knew the way his Lieutenant could get and being confrontational might make her withdraw, or it could cause her temper to flare. Those were two things that he knew would not help the situation, and frankly could only set him back. Kurosawa had realized himself long ago that a person could not fix a problem unless they stopped denying that they had one. No one else could do that for you… it had to be something you did on your own. That didn’t mean Ryou wasn’t going to help the process along. The Captain made sure to keep that pleasant look on his face, but with a note of serious that showed he was being serious about the situation. Kurosawa knew that the fact he was being serious about this situation helped to comfort Rukia somewhat. At least that was what he hoped would happen. Still the fact that there was a situation that was affecting his Vice Captain in this manner, and he couldn’t do anything about it left him with a certain feeling of helplessness. Combine this with how he considered Rukia to be one of his Mistresses… it left the extremely bitter taste of failure inside him.
“Rukia-sssan you ssshould know better than anyone elssse that you have nothing to prove. I can tell you right now that you have more than proved you can handle yourssself. Whatever isss bothering you, there isss no need to carry it by yourssself. You know how I feel about hard work, and you wouldn’t be my Vice-Captain were you not sssomeone who alwaysss gave 100% percent.” Pausing for a moment he wanted to let his words soak in. The Captain was trying to exercise some restraint on the way he usually rambled when he had a lot to say. Kurosawa knew this was situation that called for allowing Rukia the time to absorb and think about the things he said. The man then continued, “I believe you have more than earned the right to asssk for a little help Rukia-sssan.” If there was any point that he could get across to the other Shinigami during their little talk… it was the fact that she could ask for help if she needed it. A person didn’t always have to carry there burdens alone.
He sat their quietly and waited until she calmed down. Ryou certainly didn’t plan on leaving just because Rukia was getting a frustrated. He would only leave if she asked him too, or walked out herself. The man didn’t say a word as he waited patiently, to give the other the time that she needed to gather herself. Until suddenly he heard something out Rukia’s lips he would have never expected… she just called him by his name. Even with the honorific attached this was something completely different, and in fact it revealed how deeply this problem was affecting her thinking. Not that it bothered Ryou to hear her call him by his name instead of his rank… if you asked him he would have preferred people call him by his name. His Vice-Captain though, was not one those people relaxed enough to do so. Just by the way Rukia was acting he knew that maybe the best thing to do for now would simply be to calm her down. The problem itself seemed so ambiguous, he figured the best thing to do would be to try and get Rukia to accept help with figure out ‘what’ it was.
He wasn’t exactly sure what to say in order to get the Vice Captain to calm down. In a way Ryou wasn’t even sure if this was one of those situations were words would be enough, “Rukia-sssan…” The Captain stood up and slowly walked over to where she was standing and pulled her into an embrace, in order to try and give comfort to his confused friend. Waiting a few moments to give her a chance to calm down he softly said, “If that is the cassse… then why don’t you sssimply asssk for help to figure out what ‘thisss’ isss?”

rukia kuchiki ~This was why she hated having things noticed, she got frustrated or upset easily, and than would lash out or worse. Hell it wouldn't be the first time, nor the last time even with her. Sighing softly, Rukia wishing she could just figure this all out, and be done with it. Whatever it turned out to be that is. Licking her lip some, not really wanting to know what Ryou was thinking about with her right now. Most likely it wasn't pleasant or good. Or perhaps he didn't have an opinion, she really just didn't know.
Hearing him, she shook her head slightly, having to disagree with him ont that one. she might not have anything to prove with him, or hell even their squad. But didn't mean she didn't with others. Wanting to be happy at some of what he said, but at the moment she just couldn't.~ "Unfortunately, your wrong. I do have to prove myself. You forget, I was adopted into the Kuchiki family, my sister and I aren't exactly welcomed even now by many. I'm tolerated because Byakuya-sama is my older brother. But I've heard what they say, how they even talk about my dead sister's daughter. Her and I are like dirt to many of them." ~Clinching her fist some, not hating Byakuya, she couldn't he had done so much. Didn't mean she had to like his family completely. Having heard what they still say about her, Koharu even Hisana who has been dead for over 50 years. It hurts and she feels bad for putting Byakuya in the middle, but wouldn't want to think about what might of happened if he hadn't found her.
Frowning some, before she looked back away from him, sighing softly once more.~ "That is why I constantly push myself, I have to otherwise they win. I might not be royal blood, but I am not dirt and neither are my niece or sister. Just because of where we are from. I think my niece might have it worse, since she also is blood to Byakuya, they see her as tainting the family. No. We both have something to prove." ~Keeping her eyes down, she rarely spoke ill of anyone, especially not a noble house, but Ryou had brought up a point and she had to answer it. Letting those violet hues close, she moved to cross her arms trying to calm herself back down. Not sense losing it worse, bad enough she was probably about to get it for what she said.
Rukia hadn't even realized, at all, that she called him by his first name. That would of had her turning white to know she didn't call him by his title. But right now she was having to much else on her mind, though she did freeze for a split second at the embrace. Finally, almost hesitantly moved her arms around him, returning the gesture and sighed. Hearing his question and moved so she could lift her head and look up.~ "Because it's my problem, I should be able to figure it out yet.." ~Not needing to finish it, they both knew the rest. Rukia had yet to figure out just what, this problem was or why she was having it. Letting her head fall back against his chest, normally wanting to push away, but in this moment she couldn't. Or maybe she was feeling he was right and just didn't want to fight it. Who knows? Staying silent for now and trying to let his embrace bring some comfort.~

This time it was Ryou’s turn to show a hint of anger about the situation. It was nothing as dramatic as reactions from before, but that was simply because he didn’t want to make Rukia upset. So instead he contained his thoughts within. He himself had never had to deal with petty squabbling, or ideals that could sometimes come from the noble family. At least not in the way that his Vice-Captain did, but he certainly didn’t like the idea of it affecting her in such a way. The very idea of treating someone like a lesser person just because they didn’t have the same blood line as you seemed so foolish to Ryou. He knew the story somewhat, but considering it was her private business, the Captain didn’t know everything. What he did know was that the situation wasn’t right, and frankly it almost made him mad at Byakuya-san over the whole situation. Yet chewing out someone over something he didn’t understand, nor had any real business speaking about, would only upset Rukia… and not get him anywhere with the cold natured Captain. Again he kept that smile across his face for his Lieutenant to hide his real thoughts, not wanting to add to her worries.
He did mention though, “Rukia-sssan you need to quit worrying about trying to impresss people like that ssso much. I hate to tell you, but they are never going to ssstop calling you that ssstuff no matter how much you sssucceed. In fact letting it affect you thisss way isss what they want. Really the bessst thing to do isss to jussst do what I did. That isss to become ssso successful you ssscare the pantsss off of them… I mean you don’t hear as many people calling me ‘Mad Dog’ anymore unless it isss in either fear or ressspect.” The Captain knew that, that pep talk had sounded a little cliché in that it was a ‘rise above’ type of speech. Yet the point was still the type of thing that his Vice Captain needed to hear in his opinion. She seemed lost and confused, as well as worried about the opinions of people who were always going to hateful and spiteful. Worrying about such things never helped, and it was kind of the reason Ryou did not hide his madness more. He never really saw the point, and preferred to just enjoy life anyway.
As she turned back away and continued to speak, he realized that he was indeed starting to at least find part of the problem… and it left him with half a mind to threaten the members of the Kuchiki Noble House who had made Rukia feel this way. While he was stupid enough to do such a thing… he was still gleefully entertaining the idea on the inside. Staring in her direction with a sympathetic look he asked, “That isss a noble goal, but don’t you think you are pussshing a little to much for the wrong reasssons? Their isss nothing wrong with pussshing yourssself, but if you go too far and caussse yourssself to snap… then you will have done nothing, but give them a way to sssay they were right. Inssstead jussst pusssh yourssself for yourself… becaussse you have nothing to prove to them, no matter what they sssay. You’re a Shinigami Lieutenant after all, I mean none of those bassstards can really sssay that.”
As the Captain stood up and walked over to where Rukia was standing so that he could pull her into an embrace. The man wasn’t exactly sure how she was going to react, though he hoped that the other would just accept the comforting embrace for what it was. Letting her head rest on his chest, he spoke while gently running his fingers threw her hair, “Rukia-sssan I know that you think that, but there isss nothing wrong with asssking for help in figuring it out. Especially when you don’t know, consssidering the fact that you don’t have any clue though… maybe I could be of more assistance later when you have had sssome chance to sssoul sssearch the problem?”

rukia kuchiki ~Rukia never blamed her brother, Byakuya-sama was only doing as his wife had wished. She made him promise, he told her to find her little sister and take her in and protect her. So Rukia couldn't hate him, he didn't say anything bad about her, it was just the rest of them. So if Ryou had voiced being mad at Captain Kuchiki, than she would of been pissed beyond what she was. You can't make people change, though she was sure he knew what was said. Of course she also knew he was a more private person, so if he did say something it was in private. Glancing up just for a split second, before looking away once more, almost glad she wasn't being called stupid or anything. Rukia hated what people though about her, her niece and her dead sister, it wasn't their fault. One didn't chose their family, why should they be seen any less than another just because their poorer? It never made sense to her. What got her more than crap about herself, was her niece and her dead sister. Still she could hear crap said after over 50 years. You'd think since she died, they would at least have some respect.
She had even heard her brother declining another wife, which made her smile. But still you'd think they would just accept it, he was the leader of the Kuchiki family, shouldn't his choice be enough? As Ryou spoke she sighed some softly, giving a nod of understanding at least, since he had a point.~ "It's not so much me, as my niece and my dead sister I don't take to letting go. My sister, my dead sister has been gone for 50 years yet they still mock her blood, mine and take any chance to comment about her daughter. It pisses me off." ~Sighing softly as she spoke before closing her eyes, trying really trying, to not blow up at her Captain, he was only trying to help. But it was issue, along with her new one, that had her so damn stressed. The latter more so, since lately she wasn't sleeping because of the feelings.
Turning she looked back up, hearing him and sighed, hating that he was indeed right. She really shouldn't be letting them get to her, but that was just Rukia. Giving him an actual smile at his final words and nodded once more, not sure what to say. When he came up and pulled her into another embrace, she let him, once again. Letting her eyes close, aside from her brother, Renji, and Ichigo she hardly let any guy hold her. But she knew she could trust her Captain and knew he also only meant it as a comfort nothing more. Otherwise, she was sure her brother, Renji would be ready to kill him. As he spoke, Rukia couldn't help biting down on her lip. Hating how much Ryou was right and leaned her head into his chest a little more. Sighing softly she debated with herself for a few moments.~"I suppose your right Ryou-sama, I suppose I could try and let someone else help. After I calm down and try to think about anything it could possible be or about.."

At the mention of the fact that those who tormented his Lieutenant were also insulting the dead made Ryou let out a sound that was akin to a growl. The noise expressed his anger most thoroughly, because it was something that he could no longer contain, but he quickly reminded him to maintain control. Ryou quickly reigned in his emotions for Rukia’s sake and hoping that his Vice-Captain had not noticed his little slip up. He didn’t want his second in command to worry that he was going to do something stupid… especially since she had put her trust in him like this. It was why the Shinigami hoped that the other would simply understand that he was echoing her emotions. Showing his own anger at the unfair treatment of a friend, which given Ryou’s playful nature… he wasn’t someone who usual showed his anger in such a manner. Normally his anger was a colder and darker being that only emerged when those that he cared for were being insulted.
It did slip through though in his voice when he asked, “Rukia-sssama, I know it isss probably not my place to asssk, but why don’t you tell them that yourssself. I mean tell them to ssshut the fuck up talking about your sissster that way.” The mention of dead sisters especially hit hard for the Captain and he was just curious why she couldn't handle it in such a manner, “In fact if wasss me and they talked about my dead sisssters like that I would rip their throatsss out, but that is just me.” He sounded a bit jovial at the last part, but it was obvious he was trying to make a point, by using himself as an example. It also showed the fact that they came from two different worlds. Ryou himself had lived in the 40th District before coming to the Academy, and really had no knowledge of… nor frankly cared about noble etiquette. Where he came from handling these kinds of problems usually meant punching someone really hard in the face when you needed to. This was especially the case when it was causing this much of a problem to his dear Rukia’s state of mind. His voice then grew serious, “You have been there for a while now, and as I jussst sssaid you are now a Lieutenant, asss well asss whatever your possstion is among the house… with the former being one that they can’t exactly sssay anything about. There has got to be sssome way to ssstand up for yourself?” The grin on his face had that look of ‘I always have your back’… she would always be his Lieutenant, until she became a Captain, and that wouldn’t change over his dead body… unless she asked for it to.
Standing there the leader of the 13th held Rukia close to him in an embrace that was meant to bring comfort to the Lieutenant. She would never have to worry about Kurosawa meaning anything more than that by it. Despite the fact that he could be a bit of a pervert on more than just the occasion, he wasn’t a womanizer. Rukia was considered one of the Mistresses after all… and so that meant she was on a pedestal that was out of reach. Unless she indicated a desire for anything more, then to him, he took the role of the knight who protected, and did deed in his ‘ladies’ name. The Captain never talked about this much, but it was an odd coping mechanism that he had developed a long time ago. He felt a sense of triumph about the entire conversation when she finally agreed to letting someone help. Holding her close while petting her head gently for a few more mintues, he then stepped back keep his hands on her shoulders, “Alright then, that sssound like the prefect plan to me. I can promissse that you won’t regret asssk for a little help Rukia-sssan. If you want I will offer any assistance I can whenever you think of anything it could possssiably be about.” Circle back to the topic before, he couldn’t help, but to try and cheer her up, “Oh and you let thossse people being mean to you know that a very big ‘Mad Dog’ hasss hasss his eye on them… ok?” The way he spoke with that maniacal laughter, showed that he meant this more as a joke than anything else.

rukia kuchiki ~His reaction to what she said, didn't go unnoticed and Rukia sighed softly. Hoping to not make things worse getting him upset on the subject. Biting her lip some, though for now remained silent, mostly just thinking more on this whole subject. Although as he spoke, she did note the change in his tone and sucked in a breath at his question and shook her head.~ "I will not disrespect my brother like that, even if they can't show me, or my sister or niece the same. Besides Nii-sama has spoken himself, if I do so, I fear he would have more issues coming at him."
~Byakuya had already done so much, she knew he knew about what was said. Having heard him a few times going off himself, but she still worried and had wanted to tell them off. A few times she was damn near pushed that close, but bit back her responses and usually just walked away. Ignoring anything else that might be said, instead wanting to be as far away as possible. Perhaps that was why, Rukia chose to keep mostly in her room at the manor. Or the gardens when she needed a place to think. It had always been a nice location to forget your troubles, and Byakuya had mentioned Hisana also spending alot of time there.
Lifting her head she couldn't help the smile at his words, before shaking her head some. She honestly could see him doing that, only having seen him pissed a rare few times, and it was not something she ever wanted to be on the receiving end of.~"Ryou-sama..." ~unsure what else to say and left it at just his name, but still she had that smile at least. Which hopefully, proved she wasn't mad at his comment.
When he spoke, she let her eyes close and sighed softly. Though as she looked back up, a smile once more graced her face seeing that smile. She knew what is said, even without him telling her and that made her feel a little better. Reaching up she hugged him, which wasn't normal for her and kissed his cheek. Although the latter made her jerk away, forgetting her place and she turned away. It was only meant as a thank you, but than she had issues with males as well. Still this was way different, Ryou was her commander and she instantly chastised herself for being stupid, but didn't make a move to comment. Wishing to not think about what he might say, if anything and instead went back to the topic at hand.~ "As I said, while I agree, I refuse to give them anything to make Nii-sama, be made to feel bad about concerning me. He has already done so much and alot of it against his families rules, I can't do that to him."
~Besides she knew he knew, so that was enough. Right? Letting out another breath and pinching the bridge of her nose before exhaling again. Closing her eyes once more to try and center herself, but was glad he wished to help and even listen. Glancing over her shoulder at him and smiled once more, remembering her promise she had made about asking for help. Granted after she could calm down and think a little more clearly. Than, leave it to her Captain to have to get in a tease, and she couldn't help the soft laugh that broke free.~ "Ryou-sama!." ~Shaking her head, but just smiled.~

“Yeah I guessss when you put it like that, one would have a hard time trying to gain acceptance.” Ryou couldn’t believe that his dear Lieutenant had to deal with such a world. People who wanted to make her feel bad and it seemed like there was nothing she could do to fight back. That very idea was quite the dangerous one in his opinion. The Captain himself knew a lot about how pent up frustrations could cause one quite a few problems. For all Ryou knew, her current problem might have been one that was caused by not finding some sort of release for her built up tension. “Rukia-sssan… I am sssure your brother can handle himssself. I think it would worry him more, if thisss situation affected you enough that your problem got worssse.” The man paused for a moment as he seemed to be considering a possible way that Rukia might be able make them leave her alone, “ Oh I know…” The grin that covered his face at that moment seemed so evil you would almost think that he was contemplating murder,
“Why don’t you sssimply be very nice about it when asssking them to ssstop. When you do ssso though, make sssure you do it in a way that either scaresss them really bad, or insssults them. Jussst make sure that when they whine about it, they make themssselves look like foolsss. Since it doesssn’t ssseem like you are doing anything wrong.” It was obvious that the knowledge of people making Rukia unhappy was something that was now planted into the mind of the Captain. What was also quite clear was… it was not something he wanted to continue. The man also noticed something else positive about the conversation when Rukia looked up into his eyes. Despite the threaten nature of his words about what he would have done to people talking like that. It seemed that it had only elicited a positive response from the other Shinigami, “Your welcome Rukia-sssan.” He also enjoyed the fact that she had called him by his name, which he hoped would become a more regular occurrence over time.
It was at that moment that something happened that man never expected… his Lieutenant’s arms wrapping around him and then the feeling of Rukia’s lips pressing against his cheek. For a moment it seemed as though things just stopped, and the Captain wasn’t really sure what happened. Everything about the moment lasted longer than it actually did, which was why he regarded Rukia pulling away in such embarrassment. Kurosawa’s actions at that moment were hardly dictated by a ration thought process as his hair hung down over the man’s face… it didn’t hide the blush that appeared there… and it certainly didn’t block out the soft words he spoke, “You flatter me… Mistress-sssama.” Unlike his Lieutenant though, when Ryou realized what he said… he didn’t let him bother him as badly. Frankly he didn’t care if Rukia heard those words in this moment, because they held way too much of a special meaning for him. Especially once he had spoken them, and now they were sort of out in the open. Plus also understood that Rukia was the type who would understand what that meant to him, once explained out how it was different form it’s normal context.
Letting out a soft inaudible sigh Ryou knew they needed to focus more on the moment at hand, than on silly thoughts that he sure would be just a passing thing. In a way Ryou did wish that the kiss had been meant more, than the simple meaning he was sure was assigned. Listing to her words though he nodded his head in agreement, trying to focus on counseling his Vice Captain again, “I agree with you on that 136 and a 1/2 %. Byakuya-sssan thought being a bit of an ssspoily sport sssomtimes, isss someone I know isss important you, and that makesss him important to me. At least ssso much as the fact that he isss someone who makes you happy, which meansss I wouldn’t want to cause him any problemsss either.“ The way that Ryou said those words, it was as though it was promise to Rukia, that no matter what… unless she asked him to, he wouldn’t do anything of the things he joked about. The Captain seemed to be quite satisfied with himself over the fact that he did get his Vice Captain to laugh the way she did when he gave her that little suggestion. So much so that he reached back to where he had left his top hat on the desk, to tip it off slightly while giving a bow, “Thank you… Thank you…” Kurosawa could be quite the impish little creature sometimes whenever he wanted to.

rukia kuchiki ~Rukia nodded, as Ryou agreed with her words sighing softly but let it go. Moving to take another sip of the tea and trying to forget about it all, but that wasn't going to happen she knew that. Licking her lips a little before he spoke once more, biting on her lip at his comment on her brother. Hating that he was indeed right. Byakuya would flip if he knew she was stressing so much and uggg she shook her head now wanting that train of thought to continue.~ "Yeah, you are right he would be most upset with me. I am sure on that." ~Wrinkling her nose some, yea the image of Byakuya learning about her issues and how stressed she was, made her a little worried He would surely be lecturing her on that one.
Blinking at his suddenly change in demeaner before he spoke. Raising a brow at his suggestion and wondering if she could even do that. She wasn't actually good at the whole faking thing, but she could try maybe. But he said make it so they looked like fools and bit her lip.~ "I don't know Ryou-sama, I'm not exactly the best actress here, my luck I might make it worse and I'm the one looking like a fool." ~Shaking her head some. Wondering if he had any other ideas or some other idea on that same path that would work. Smiling up at him when he spoke and nodded some. He was actually making her feel a little better, maybe he had been right, she just needed to talk.
The kiss, she felt completely embarrassed doing that to a superior. Biting her lip when his tone seemed off as he spoke and the fact he called her Mistress had those eyes blinking slightly.~ "I am terribly sorry Ryou-sama, that was inappropriate of me to do that to a superior." ~Knowing he wasn't mad, but still she wanted to apology. Wasn't like she had even thought of what it might mean, she really only talked casually with Renji and Ichigo, but yea boys and her didn't go well. She had no ideas on that subject, nor had she ever even thought of trying. Hell she never dated, probably cause she was sure her brother would kill or at least scare any boy away she 'might' like. Looking down, and keeping her eyes from his view.
Sure the Captain was funny, had a way about him, was intelligent and if she admitted it he was handsome. But she just didn't think about any of that, besides she was his lieutenant, probably to most still a child. Why would he want anything but her loyalty as his subordinate from her?
When he finally spoke again, she couldn't help the slight glare, when he spoke about her brother. But it was true, he did have that way in which he came off to others, so she couldn't argue much. Hell look how long it took for them to even talk like siblings to one another. For him to trust her, look at her as family and not some burden, like she always thought she was to him. But that was just Rukia. She knew how most saw her, sure it hurt, but she couldn't change where she came from or who she was. So she dealt with it. Smiling some at him after a moment.~ "Good idea and thank you, that means alot to me. Probably more than you know." ~Bowing her head when he thanked her before taking another sip of her tea.~
