EXTRAS: Kisame is not what you would call a moral man. From the time he was a child he seemed to view all things with a marked scientific interest, but without compassion or morality. He has always devoted himself to the pursuit of knowledge without limit, however since joining Seireitei he tends to follow most of the rules against experimentation on humans. All living creatures, to him, are nothing more than books waiting to be read from cover to cover, to unveil more about the secret behind life. Kisame is however very respectful and always speaks with tact and at times humility towards those higher ranked than he. Although being from the "modern age", Kisame holds to the Tokugawa era tradition of being polite towards enemies and introducing one's self before battle. Those that are subordinate to him are also treated with respect, for after all if you run away all who are near, who will help with the experiments? He tends to surround himself with those who are interested in science as he is and usually strays away from the frontlines of battle to experiment, however occasionally even he knows adversity of all kinds brings forth evolution and will foray into Hueco Mundo to capture hollows and test out spells on various levels of Hollow he finds there. He tends to spend a good deal of time seeking volunteers for some of his experiments on Shinigami and offers very good payment to those who give permission....and survive. Kisame also loves to teach kidou/bakudo and offers to tutor anyone lacking in the subject, as he believes teaching will allow him to increase his understanding of kidou if he is able to teach it to those who are ignorant. HISTORY:
Rukongai Life:
Kisame was born into a well-to-do family in the 1st Rukongai district. His family, while not noble, was quite wealthy and his doting parents gave Kisame, an only child, whatsoever he desired. Kisame from the time he could form proper sentences showed great promise to become a renowned scholar. As Kisame grew, his parents spared no expense to find the most talented teachers in the Soul Arts to teach their son. Kisame learned all of his basic lessons quickly and conducted his first experiment at the young age of 14 years old. His avid desire was to learn about the very origin of soul power, not merely it's application. His first experiment was on a stray dog he captured, or more appropriately his servant's captured, and brought to his lab his parents furnished for him. Most parents might have looked down on such a thing, but all Kisame's parents cared for was their son's happiness. His experiment brought him only more questions further feeding his quest for knowledge. After a year of fruitless experiments on animals captured in Rukongai, one of Kisame's teachers told him about the vast amounts of knowledge that were stored in Seireitei, and suggested he gain access to the Shinigami Academy to further increase his knowledge to unimaginable heights. That was the only way he would gain the knowledge he sought. Kisame wasn't one to waste time so he immediately applied for entry to the academy, and due to his family's standing, was accepted immediately.
Academy Training:
Kisame initially had trouble once in the academy due to his weak physical stature and his reputation as a spoiled brat that got everything he wanted. Kisame however was always quite polite to those he was around and never once attempted to gain anything by bribery or using his family's vast financial reserves. While in the academy he met a young man by the name of Muroku Uchisame, who offered his services in exchange for a favor from Kisame.
By this time, Kisame had gained quite the reputation for being physically weak, but it was no questioning his skills in the Demon Arts. By the end of the first year, Kisame had already learned all of the basic kidou up to level 20 and it was rumored that he could skip incantations at will. His uncanny understanding of kidou and bakudo allowed him access to advanced kidou instruction and that was Uchisame's reason for approaching him. Uchisame was a strong man from a family that was similar to Kisame's own, however Uchisame was Kisame's physical polar opposite. Uchisame was quite powerful in the Zan and Ken areas and wanted to help Kisame gain physical strength in exchange for Kisame to teach him the more subtle parts of kidou. Kisame accepted and soon learned what the meaning of pain was during training with Uchisame. After a week of systematically taking Kisame apart, he pinpointed his weaknesses and taught Kisame a very basic form of Kenjutsu that would allow Kisame to hold his own against a more superior fighter, however this was all Kisame could ever hope for. It took the remainder of his time in the academy to even gain a basic level of skill, however it was a huge improvement from where Kisame started. Kisame, although he hated every minute of his training, was grateful for Uchisame's help, and kept up his end of the bargain throughout their time at the academy, and even taught Uchisame to skip incantations on certain spells. This type of training actually increased his knowledge of kidou slightly and showed him how a Master/Student relationship benefits both parties involved. Upon graduation and assignment, Kisame and Uchisame parted ways as Kisame joined the Research and Development Bureau.
12th Division Life:
At first Kisame fit right in as a researcher and got along well with most of his peers. Kisame was respected for his intelligence and zeal, but feared for his uncompromising standards and research...tactics. As years went on he would attempt more and more bold research testing his limits as well as the limits imposed by Central 46. He would create gates into Hueco Mundo and bring back live Hollow's to test out various things and occasionally the Hollows would escape. Often he would offer to pay some hapless Shinigami to test out his tactics, spells, or weapons on the captured Hollows that sometimes went awry. Once, it caused so much trouble that he was nearly jailed for his irresponsibility. Rather than face jail time which would undoubtedly be permanent, he requested a Division change to follow his second love that was the Demon Arts.
The Kidoushuu
As a Researcher, Kisame spent a great deal of time using Kidou to capture hollows and occasionally other creatures from the World of the Living. Although part of the conditions of his transfer was to abstain from further research, Kisame continues his research between missions, yet he generally keeps it low profile. Since he is a part of the Kidoushuu, opening gates is one of his responsibilities so he frequently forays into Hueco Mundo for any large experiments he plans as for the most part Hueco Mundo isn't monitored. When not sneaking off to do forbidden research, Kisame could be found teaching Kidou to any who asked politely or were sent to him forcibly. Using his access rights to the living world gates, Kisame setup a research lab in the living world and shielded it from Seireitei’s prying eyes. While there, he would conduct experiments frowned upon in Seireitei to his hearts content, even though it he lacked proper equipment for some of his ideas. As time went on, Kisame gradually rose through the ranks of the Kidoushuu, but once a position opened up for the the 12th Squad Captain, he jumped at the chance to claim his beloved squad for his own.
RP SAMPLE:
"No, no, no, that's not right at all..."
Kisame was enraged. Well..as enraged as he could possibly get. The formula for balancing the power against the stream of soul energy wasn't working quite like he expected, and it was starting to get on his nerves.
How many creatures had he gone through already? He given up keeping track of such things long ago and only recorded the numbers during his Journals. Even though he subconsciously knew that 267 living beings..
BOOM!
....268 beings had met their end at this shoddy soul construct he was attempting to forge into a new spell. His barriers flared as they diverted the main force of the blast up into the air and his collector crystals attempted to capture most of the lost energy, glowing brightly as they too exploded.
"Curse it all! What I wouldn't give to have my lab back right now!" screamed an exasperated Kisame.
"You gave all that up, remember?" A voice that sounded like five people speaking at once calmly spoke. "I thought you were happy with your decision?" The voice wasn't without a hint of sarcasm that Kisame nearly visibly bristled at. Taking a deep breath, the scientist calmed himself. There was no sense in getting worked up over this. After all, Karite was right.
"You know, sometimes, just sometimes, I hate you." said Kisame. "You know, it's quite hard to keep these constructs on this Accursed realm. Sometimes it's all I can do to keep the wards up that keep this location hidden from those fools in Seireitei."
Karite's black clad form appeared beside Kisame, his dark seal pulsing from behind him with an eerie violet light. Kisame always found Karite's form very menacing, yet somehow relaxing to him. After all, he'd been with Karite for a few centuries now and found his intellect to be a grounding factor in his life. Even knowing that Karite was ultimately a part of his own soul, he regarded Karite as an equal peer.
"Maybe the purity of the creature is the problem. It seems as if another foray into Hueco Mundo is in order," intoned Karite. Kisame's ears perked up at this as he slowly turned to stare at Karite. "I always thought you were against going into Hueco Mundo. Every time I have to hear about how I'm going to get caught one day and Seireitei is going to imprison me in 'that' place." Kisame's eyes narrowed as he looked unbelievingly at his Zanpaktou Spirit. "You know, if this is more sarcasm, it's not funny."
Karite's hooded head turned towards Kisame and suddenly faded out leaving an amused feeling in the air that slightly raised Kisame's ire. After a few moments it subsided and Kisame began to make preparations to raid Hueco Mundo and capture some powerful Hollow of at least Gillian level. After a few hours, Kisame was finally ready to depart. He incanted the spell that allowed him to twist the fabric of space and time and rent open a hole into Hueco Mundo. He traveled under the cloak of an invisibility Bakudo that would hide him from sight and suppress his reiatsu from all but the keenest of senses. He set out across the pale sand dunes of Hueco Mundo and spread his low level hollow bait around a rather large area using Shunpo to get around quickly. After about 10 minutes, he found a nice overlook and sat waiting for the bait to take effect.
Quite some time passed before there was any response and it wore Kisame's patience thin. He knew that the bait would attract lesser hollow first but eventually an Gillian would appear looking for a meal if he was lucky. It was imperative however that only one Gillian was around, as it would take him some time to capture the hollow. It was really an art form, he thought to himself. Even though Gillian were weak by his standards, the amalgamation of souls they represented could be distilled to a much stronger purity than any amount of human souls he could take back on Earth. Of course, the purity and strength of one from the Court of Pure Souls would be much more preferable, however, Kisame was already an exile who no doubt would be apprehended on sight. No sense in bumping that up to a kill order. Besides, there was no 'Shinigami' bait....
Or was there?
A quick movement from his left immediately set him into motion as an attack that was meant to cripple him obliterated the spot where he once stood. Kisame blurred into view 50ft from where the blast struck and turned to face his assailant. He was pretty big, and quite the powerhouse if Kisame's senses weren't lying. The 15ft tall Hollow looked like a sick caricature of an octopus fused with a two-legged Horse. Its eight tentacles waived around in the air and each began to form a lurid red ball that pulsed with considerable power.
"Cero, eh? What a way to greet a visitor. Care to at least offer your name before I add you to the list?" said a smiling Kisame. He casually slid his arms across his chest, reaching into the billowing arms of his robes and grabbed what he had prepared back on Earth. The Hollow laughed as it began to dump more power into its Cero's. "You don't converse with your food, do you Shinigami?" Its voice was full of disdain and murderous intent. Kisame smiled even more at that, unnerving the Hollow for just an infinitesimal moment. It roared and all eight of the moderately powerful Cero's fired off at once. The wave of energy detonated as it struck, cracking the plateau they stood upon. "Hmph...that was some trick, eight Cero's at once!" said Kisame from _behind_ the now startled Hollow. As the Hollow started to turn and attack, Kisame casually touched Its back and intoned "Bakudo no Roku-ju-ichi...Rikujokoro!"
The six bars of binding light smashed into the Hollow, stopping Its counter movement but not Its tentacles. two of Its tentacles lashed out at Kisame who nimbly dodged to a safe distance using Shunpo.
"Impossible!" screamed the Hollow. "There's no way you can be that fast to dodge my Ocho-Cero!" Kisame produced a small crystal from his sleeve and smiled twisting it in his fingers. "This is my secret! I'd explain it to you, but I don't need to explain anything to a specimen..." Kisame flashed his teeth in a boyish grin as he replaced the glowing gem. The Hollow took that opportunity to fire off a quick succession of weak malformed Cero that penetrated Kisame's chest leaving a hole burned through the center.
"HA! Your pathetic attempts to gloat were foiled by your own hubris, Shinigami! Did you forget already that I can fire eight of those? Doing it rapidly is no problem at all..."
"Impose thy penalty...Karite!"
The Hollow was way too slow. It watched in amazement as Kisame's form suddenly wavered out of existence and felt a abrupt and fierce slash remove Its tentacles from one side of Its head. It roared, now sounding more pained and humiliated than fearsome and proud. "My, my you are the impatient one. That's twice now you've interrupted me," said Kisame, still smiling. "I assure you there won't be a third."
The Hollow started to move Its other tentacles, but Kisame was already in the midst of a return stroke with his scythe and removed the rest of Its tentacles in two swift arcing slashes. The Hollow began to grunt as if it was attempting to lift a great weight and even attempted to struggle against Kisame's powerful kidou. "That won't work." Kisame calmly remarked. "You lack the brute strength needed to break free from my spells. Also, you don't have enough strength left to regenerate...not while my Karite forbids it." Kisame produced another gem, this one sparkled green, and crushed it in his hand. "My right hand is the stone that bridges worlds. My left hand is the blade that binds reality. The black-haired shepherd is hung from a chair. Stratus clouds come, and I strike down the ibis...Keikaigi!" As Kisame incanted the world tying rite, the Hollow struggled and knew something strange was up when the Shinigami didn't slay him outright. "What is the meaning of this? Where are you taking me?" demanded the now worried aberration.
As Kisame finished anchoring the spell, he smiled devilishly at the Hollow. "Didn't I already tell you? You are a specimen. No need to explain."
