Moments later, a blue-haired man stepped out, hands clasped behind his back. An enormous reiatsu instantly dominated the area, likely causing weaker beings to fall to their knees. He surveyed the area calmly, seeing that there weren't any Shinigami about. No doubt, some would get there soon. He was close enough to the Seireitei that he could see it ahead of him. He estimated the Gotei's response to take no more than five minutes, if that.
With a flick of his fingers, Julius closed the Garganta behind him. He couldn't have anything unwanted slipping into Las Noches, not that it would do them any good if they managed to. Still, Julius didn't plan on leaving anytime soon; not until he carried out Zelena's will.
Julius began to walk towards the Seireitei, intent on finding a Shinigami, preferably not a weak one. He wasn't fond of blood, and he had no desire to fight someone who had no chance against him. In fact, he would be fine with not fighting at all, but that just wasn't going to happen. However, he was confident in his own abilities. He would not lose easily, if at all. And even if he did, he wasn't alone. The Espada, the strongest Arrancar in existence, were infiltrating the very same spot Julius was heading to. The short-sightedness of the Soul Society's leader had sealed their fate. Nothing could stop it, the coming storm.

Relinquishing a heavy sigh, Allister fixed his gaze upon the garganta in the distance. The cavalry had arrived, and the war had begun. Obvious reluctancy emanated from the captain, coating the air around him in a palpable way, almost as if it'd made it's way into his Reiatsu. Of course he didn't want to fight a war that wasn't necessary, that's what he spent the majority of his life doing, and seeing so many wars from so many different sides gave him the wisdom to realize no one side is ever correct. All parties would be at fault when it came to war, even if it was the old man's unwise decisions that brought them here.
As he made his way to the nearest noticeable source of foreign Reiatsu, he remained eerily silent, keeping all thoughts to himself, trapped in his ever overactive mind. Mumbling and complaining at this point wouldn't do a damn thing, what was done was already done. Even if Allister himself opposed the idea of going into battle with an enemy he had no personal enmity towards, he couldn't prevent it. He enjoyed his position as the head of research and development far too much to pack up and leave, and he was far too indebted toward the Gotei 13 for all of the opportunities to pursue his interests that they'd given him over the years. No, if only out of the false sense of honor and respect that his short few years as a knight had taught him, he would stay and carry out the orders to drive the enemy out as best he could.
As the nearest large source of Arrancar reiatsu he could pinpoint all of the way from the Sereitei inched it's way in his direction, he slowed his pace. Shunpo-ing there with utmost speed would likely be what the geezer would have wanted him to do, but rushing head first into a battle without composing himself or analyzing any surrounding dangers would be reckless and idiotic. After all, there wasn't just one arrancar in the whole of the Espada, there were at least 10 from his recollection, not including fraccions. If they were mounting an attack on soul society, they wouldn't have come alone, and he was no fool to believe he could handle more than one numbered Espada by himself, if even that.
No amount of time would truly be enough, however. Despite his slow pace, he came face to face with his target much sooner than he would have preferred. Despite the Reiatsu being a clear mixture of hollow and Shinigami's spiritual pressure --leaning more towards hollow--, the young male that stood before him, among the listless trees at the edge of the forest on the Rukongai's outskirts, didn't appear to be like any of the arrancar that Allister himself had the pleasure of dealing with during the first war with the Espada two years ago. There was no visible mask, causing him to seem more humanoid than most, and the ever vicious, overly violent attitude most possessed seemed to be absent as well.
Stepping into the forest towards the arrancar, Allister placed himself no more than 30 feet dead ahead of the young man, his Haori's long sleeves blowing along in the light wind that shook the lush, green trees surrounding the two. To the opposing fellow, it might've seemed like the captain was unarmed, as he had his Zanpakuto still tucked away in the sealing mechanism he designed for his sleeve cuffs, because regardless of how foolhardy the notion was, he hoped he could solve things with diplomacy. Brushing his hair from his face with his left hand --As his bangs had somewhat covered the lenses of his glasses--, he began to lightly speak, keeping his voice rather even and lax.
"Might I ask a favor of you? Lighten your Reiatsu a bit, please. The forest is all too calm today, and I suspect it's the result of your spiritual pressure subjugating all of the creatures that inhabit it. Even the spirits in the outer Rukongai are having difficulties, and I detest the idea of innocents being unable to escape if need be. After all, your war is not with them." His facial expression was unusually plain, the constant smirk that defined his first impressions being absent. His eyes still gave away his calm demeanor, however, as they were still half open as always. Continuing to speak, he made sure to explain his position on the matter. "I assume the old man's temper is the reason for your presence here? Please accept my apology on his behalf. When you grow to be that old, it's not out of the question to be a bit difficult to deal with. I hope you can understand that he's the only one who desired war as an outcome to the interaction between our races. Not all of us blindly swing our swords at all who threaten our dominance."
Making eye contact with the seemingly young Arrancar, he paused, awaiting a response. He realized explaining himself or expressing his discontent for the situation at hand would make no difference, it was a fool's act. Combat was inevitable, living or unliving, beings could never co-exist without some form of conflict. He kept his hands at his sides during this time, as to not seem threatening in any manner. This didn't mean he'd let down his guard, however, as he knew doing so could result in his death, and ultimately his failure.

He wasn't especially eager to fight, but if it was for Zelena, he would do anything. Plus, the Arrancar would have to help decimate the stronger Shinigami if this operation were to bear fruit. If only so that Julius could see his Queen happy, he would make sure that he didn't fail. He could already feel clashes going on all around him; it was his turn to jump in. Even as the second most powerful Arrancar, Julius had to get his hands dirty from time to time. Even now, the leader was likely engaging in combat. That thought had the blue-haired Arrancar moving a bit faster. He wanted to be by her side, just in case something went wrong.
A few minutes later, Julius slowed to a stop. The Reiatsu he had felt before was much closer now. A couple more steps, and the Arrancar was out of the bushes that had been obscuring his view. Farther down the makeshift path stood a Shinigami with white hair and glasses. Judging by the white haori he wore, this one was a captain. Julius narrowed his eyes slightly, trying to guess what the Shinigami might do next. Would he attack outright, or try to reason with him? Even with attack being a very real possibility, the Arrancar did not move to grab the sword that was sheathed at his left hip. The chance of a peaceful solution was practically null, and yet he felt that giving off a non-threatening vibe was best, for now at least.
What happened next caught Julius off-guard, though he didn't show it. The Shinigami only asked him to let up on his Reiatsu output. It was true that the Arrancar's substantial Reiatsu was aversely affecting things. In particular, weaker spiritual beings would be terribly stressed by it. And unlike some of his comrades, Julius didn't care to drag any non-Shinigami into the conflict. In the first place, he had only flared his Reiatsu for the purpose of attracting stronger Shinigami, and that purpose had been fulfilled by the captain's arrival. The pressure slowly receded as the Arrancar surprisingly, obliged the captain's request. "Forgive me... I must have gotten carried away," he apologized, looking off to the side for a moment, as if he were embarrassed. Julius never meant to look like he was showing off. For someone his age, his control of Reiatsu, while impressive to some, was sub-par at best. His real strength lied in his physical capabilities.
When the captain began to speak again, Julius looked back in his direction. He had already figured that the man before him was of a reasonable sort. Even so, the fact that he was apologizing on behalf of Yamamoto was surprising. The Arrancar couldn't help but feel a tad impressed. Still, this battle was unavoidable. Neither of them could back off. Julius himself wouldn't dream of doing so. Right now, his only choice was to move forward. This Shinigami was in the way of that. The Arrancar allowed himself to take on a regretful disposition before replying, "And yet, I can't turn back," he said, assuming that the captain might ask him to.
There was no choice. Really, Julius couldn't even let the captain leave. His secondary order was to incapacitate any Shinigami that crossed his path. The Arrancar raised his right hand, and a dark blue aura began to glow about it, soon condensing into a fist-sized sphere. "I'm sorry," he murmured, before letting the Cero fire in the form of a large beam. Julius fully expected the Cero to be dodged. He knew that Shinigami possessed a technique equivalent to their Sonido. With that, one could easily dodge such an up-front attack. This was only the beginning; something to initiate the inevitable clash.

Allister's smile returned momentarily as the Reiatsu in the air lightened, and the arrancar began charging a cero in his hand. He knew a battle was inevitable, but playing the honest fool's game was much too becoming of him at this point. Even though it seemed neither side sought death or violence, the situation had forced their hands.
Shunpoing about 10 feet behind the arrancar as the beam was released, his smile ceased once more. "I understand. I did not truly expect things to be resolved peacefully, but it seems I can't let go of silly human emotions like hope. This war is frivolous and unwarranted, but I must do what I am asked. It is the debt I owe. I hope you understand, I too, cannot leave without defeating you."
Using shunpo once more to evade any possible attacks coming his way, now that his opponent had no doubt found his new position, he placed himself around 10 feet above the arrancar, with his pointer finger extended in a half-cocked gesture. "Byakurai." A beam of condensed lightning launched forth from his fingertip, aimed directly down at the blue haired man, that Allister unfortunately had to classify as an enemy. Rather than just leaving it as one blast, the 12th division captain peppered the surrounding ground in the lightning, almost assuring either a partial hit, or assuring the arrancar would use his own high speed movement technique to create a gap between the two, or even take to the sky as Allister had. Either would suit the white haired shinigami quite nicely, as he began mixing two separate incantations, preparing for the next stage of his assault.
"I invoke thee, Mask of blood and flesh. Ye who bears the name of man, hold mine enemy in place, in the abyss of conflagration, so that he may wait at the far heavens...." Withholding the last few words of the chant, as he shunpo'd back towards the ground, he awaited the arrancar's next move. He wasn't going to waste the spells until his foe came into sight, for what he assumed would be a melee attack. After all, using Ceros and the like on a captain level shinigami was a futile effort from long range, and as far as he knew, Arrancar didn't have much else to rely on when they weren't released.
All he needed to get going was for his foe to disregard the incantations and draw in close. The moment the arrancar tried to close the distance, he would finish the chant, and activate the two Kidos, almost certainly forcing the arrancar into his Ressurecion to survive. From there, he could really examine how to finish it entirely, but it all relied on how the other man reacted. As much as he loathed it, he couldn't start slow or hold back to test the waters. He had to aim to end it as soon as he could.

It didn't take the Arrancar long to pinpoint the Shinigami just behind him. He turned his head slightly to the left to peer back at his opponent as he spoke. Julius didn't need to respond. With that, the time for talk was over.
As soon as the captain disappeared again, Julius followed suit, his own disappearance accompanied by a static booming sound. He ended up about ten feet from his original position, but when he saw the Shinigami above him, Julius used Sonido again. This time, he found himself in the cover of trees farther off, watching as the captain sent several beams of light towards the ground where he had been standing moments before. Kido. This Shinigami seemed to be especially proficient in the Demon Arts. That was what Julius assumed based on the ease with which he fired off several of the blasts. He would have to be careful. The Arrancar had been able to easily brush off Kido spells before, but there were much stronger spells, and this was a captain, not some grunt.
Dark blue Reiryoku coalesced about both of Julius' hands. He had a clear shot to the Shinigami through the trees, now that he had moved again. Oddly enough, the captain had chanted something earlier. Julius could only assume that it was a Kido chant. And yet, nothing had happened. He didn't like it. If the spell had simply failed, why did the Shinigami look so calm about it? The Arrancar felt that attacking up front now could be dangerous. Then again, a long range attack would likely prove useless as well.
As much as the Arrancar hated deception itself, he wasn't above stealth. He had to make it to Zelena as soon as possible; he couldn't afford to lose or make mistakes. Trying to keep his Reiatsu as low as possible so that his position wasn't detected right away, Julius held his hands out in the Shinigami's general area, firing a multitude of blue Balas. He wasn't aiming directly for the captain himself, but the ground and forestry around his position. Though, being hit by one of the speedy blue orbs was a definite possibility. The true purpose behind this onslaught was to raise a cloud of smoke and dust.
After the smokescreen was thrown up, Julius took of flying from his spot, unsheathing the short sword at his hip on the way. Wherever the captain had moved to after the barrage of Balas, Julius would try and get behind him at first. Whether his opponent turned around or not, Julius would use Sonido again. Even though he might be hard, if not impossible to see, and somewhat difficult to detect compared to before, the Arrancar was wary. His Sonido brought him only a short distance, as he ended up on the captain's right side with his sword raised. Almost as soon as he had reappeared, Julius slashed towards the Shinigami's right shoulder horizontally. Whether he managed to land the blow or not, the Arrancar would jump backwards a couple feet immediately afterwards, to distance himself in case his suspicions were correct. He had no idea what to expect, though.

WORDS 2many4u RELEASE Shikai STATS HAN: 17 (+3) REI: 18 HAK: 15 (+1) SEI: 21 BUK: 16 (+2) HOH: 18(+2) NOTES I was gonna list the Bakudo/Hado here but it won't let me quote the post for the fancy coding. Sorry :l
It seemed the skirmish had devolved into something more reminiscent to guerrilla warfare, rather than a one on one duel. To think that two creatures that naturally possessed swords made of their very own souls would spend so much of a battle shooting little beams at each other and running away, it was preposterous.
Despite not being able to detect the opposing arrancar very well, it wasn't hard for Allister to notice the numerous orbs of purple energy flying towards him. The moment the first sphere touched the ground where he was positioned, he was already gone in a flash step. He positioned himself on the base of a tree some feet behind him, standing directly perpendicular to it's trunk, his boots digging into the bark with some sort of shinigami sorcery. As if he were trying to taunt the spiritual world's gravity in the middle of a death-match.
If he were any younger, he may have been caught off guard by the speed of the Balas. However, most higher ups in the soul society were informed of the more common attacks the Arrancar could use, with many of them having witnessed firsthand. Luckily, deduction and creativity were his specialties, so the makeshift smokestorm wasn't too hard to figure out either. The real problem lay in what came next.
Sighing gently as he unsealed his Zanpakuto in his right hand, he waited for the crackle of Sonido to sound among the smoke. It came earlier than he expected, the roar trailing toward his right rear side. The actions would have been easier to predict had he not had so much trouble sensing the man's whereabouts, but Allister was the one who asked that he lower his Reiatsu... Doing so in a manner of stealth only seemed like an ironic way to deliver a twisted bit of Karma.
Relying only on 'natural' senses, the 12th captain was unable to react in time to fully parry the entire attack. Managing to flip his Wakizashi around in his hand and tilt his arm backwards while extending it in a single motion, he was able to deflect the midsection of the arrancar's shortsword as it reached out to sever him, causing it to instead graze the upper portions of his shoulder. The wound was light, but it still bled enough to leave a visible stain on his white haori, as droplets trickled through the air.
He'd be fine, however. The moment the smokescreen went up, he was prepared to take some sort of a hit. His foe was just a bit faster, stronger, and more dextrous than he was. Relying on a purely physical confrontation was going to earn him his wounds, but he needed to draw him in close enough. The moment the roar of a sonido could be heard once more, signaling an obvious backstep from the previous strike, Allister remedied the lack of words in the air with a calm phrase.
"So that he may be judged. Bakudo 48, Tojikomeru." With the word 'judged' the shadows of the trees all around the forest, --more specifically the very one they were perched on-- lurched out at the arrancar, attempting to grasp him by his wrists and ankles. If they caught him, the skirmish would be over, and he would be subdued.
However it wasn't that simple. Allister wasn't a cocky fool, he knew the chances of all four appendages being restrained was a fool's hope at best. That's not what he was aiming for. All he needed was a momentary lapse of movement on his foe's part. The shadows were just there to slow him down just enough for the next bit of his assault to at least partially connect.
Flash stepping away from his position on the tree into one that looked down on the arrancar from above, he flipped his Zanpakuto into a position between his right hand's pinky and ring finger, as to not obstruct his palms. Now is where the second verse that was mixed along with the first came into play. With both hands outstretched towards the area below, he released two massive blue spheres of fiery energy in the Arrancar's direction. "Hado 73, Soren Sokatsui"
With the full verse chanted, the explosion as the orbs connected with any solid surface below would be devastating, likely taking out a large portion of the forest surrounding them. The idea even warranted Allister to Flash step towards the very ends of the forest, standing just outside the blast radius, in the area that connected the Rukongai with said forest.
Damage potential aside, he knew it wasn't going to be a killing blow. Yet again, that was not it's goal. Gripping his Zanpakuto more firmly, he extended it at his side, activating his shikai. "Ameshimasu" The small Wakizashi faded away into a translucent light-blue blade, lengthening to the size of an average katana as the liquid that formed it's make up began to twist and churn. If all went as planned, the arrancar would have been caught somewhere within the blast radius, and the real fight would then begin.
Otherwise, at least the area was now clear of all potential debris or obstructions with which to launch further sneak attacks from, as the trees in the surrounding flickered with flames, turning them into smoldering piles of ash. Musing to himself quietly, he awaited his opponent's emergence from the now burning rubble, eventually calling out casually. "I would really hate for this to drag on, you know. I've toys and trinkets to attend to, things don't usually invent themselves." The words were less of a jest and more of a way to express the fact that his heart was still not entirely in the war. It was a strange feeling, doing something simply out of a self-induced sense of obligation. He didn't want to fight, but he wanted to fight. As he Sonido'd backwards, he saw that he had still managed to cut the Shinigami, but barely. It was inconsequential. Still, Julius couldn't have expected something like a smokescreen to win him this battle. This was a captain he was fighting, after all.
Julius was about to lunge forward again, when he heard his opponent utter another Kido spell. As soon as he heard the word 'Bakudo', Julius had jumped up through the branches and high in the air, aiming to get as much distance on the Shinigami as possible. He was stopped, however, when one of the tendrils latched onto his right ankle. And that wasn't all. The captain had switched locations and now looked as if he would fire another attack. Julius dropped his sword when he saw that. If the Shinigami had gone to the trouble of trying to trap him before firing this next attack, it had to be something big. Just as the captain chanted his next incantation, a black blade appeared in Julius' right hand. It was easy to see why the Arrancar had been using a different blade before. The sword he had seemingly conjured out of nowhere; his Zanpakuto, was oddly proportioned, being six feet long but less than an inch wide. The Daito almost looked like it would snap with enough pressure.
Now, two spheres of blue flame were bearing down on Julius, but he didn't seem incredibly phased; though the fact that he was about to release his Zanpakuto showed that he wasn't underestimating the power behind the oncoming blast. "Absolve, Nirvana." With those words, the area went pitch-black for a brief moment. At the same time, gravity seemed to change slightly. Anyone within a half-mile of Julius would feel weightless for the split second it took for the darkness to fade to a light haze. This minor gravity change gave Julius just enough time to rip free of the tendril and Sonido after the Shinigami to the furthermost edges of the forest before the blue spheres touched down on the tree he had been standing in before. The resultant explosion was massive, as the Arrancar had expected. He even felt the heat from it on his back. Had he been even a second longer, Julius knew that he would have been in some serious trouble.
The physical changes that Julius' Resurreccion bestowed upon him weren't as obvious as those of other Arrancars, though they were apparent. His hair had grown considerably, reaching down to his lower back. His clothing seemed to have changed entirely, and he was now clad completely in black. Even the mask fragment around his neck that hadn't been visible before had turned black. Odd glowing panels covered both of the Arrancar's forearms and he held no weapons, but the most shocking change was his eyes. Whereas they had been a hazel colour before, they were now a very pale icy blue.
After launching himself after the captain, Julius had not stopped until he reached the Shinigami, halting a few feet from him. He couldn't say he didn't agree with the captain; he didn't have time to waste. This battle needed to end soon; both of them had other priorities. Julius himself needed to get to Zelena. The bad feeling he had wouldn't go away until he was by her side. The Arrancar did not voice any of this, though, instead taking a single step toward his opponent. In that instant, his body erupted in a tower of bright white light. A mild shock wave pulsated outwards from his position, which would most likely knock the Shinigami off-balance unless he moved away immediately. The white light soon died down, but now Julius would be covered in dark blue Reiryoku.
Whether the captain was afflicted by the earlier shock wave or not, Julius would use Sonido to end up in front of him with his right fist cocked back. He sent a forceful punch to the Shinigami's stomach and then followed up with a left hook to the face with his other hand. If any part of Julius made contact with the captain, he would be frozen wherever the Arrancar touched him.
When it all came down to it, there were only two things Julius' Resurreccion could do: Defend allies, or kill. Rarely was anyone just left wounded by it. Then again, Julius rarely had to use it, even less so for battles where death wasn't a possibility. Still, he didn't want to kill this Shinigami. But he was prepared for such an outcome. This was war, after all.
