It was a pleasant day; sunny with a few cloud and a nice breeze. The temperature was around 70 degrees with decent humidity and there was about zero percent chance of rain, assuming the weekly weather report could be trusted. The only unfortunate part was the location: Karakura town. It was a place Soon-ja had always wanted to avoid. Still, it was a routine stop for her every few years, usually only for a couple months, and she wasn’t about to break centuries of tradition just because she disliked the area. She just had to be a bit more careful.
She was usually off training during the day, but today was a necessary deviation from her schedule. Soon-ja had blocked off a sizable amount of time for prep work. Generally it was easy to avoid resident Shinigami and still make her personal quota, however Karakura town was a slightly different matter. On numerous occasions she’d been surprised by the number of Shinigami and other spiritual beings hanging around the area. It happened frequently enough that she treated the town vastly differently than any other location. After she found herself a nice café and ordered something to keep the hosts from bothering her, she set to work.
Her left hand was occupied by the handle of a mug, her fingers resting against the warm, ceramic surface. Her right was resting on a small notepad, spinning a pen in hypnotizing circles. Between the two was a paperback novel turned to a random page. Her eyes, however, were focused on none of these things. Instead, she stared blankly off into the distance. Wisps of steam curled off her cup of coffee and the pages of her book whipped by in the light wind. Soon-ja wasn’t bothered in the slightest. After all, she was focused on something completely different.
She scribbled a few odd symbols onto her notepad, noting the direction and time of Reiryoku patterns that disappeared and appeared within her detection range. The key to her operations was stealth and, without any technology assisting her, Soon-ja had no options other than prolonged observation. While pinpointing the pattern's exact location was a bit too strenuous to do repeatedly, she had no issue rapidly determining their direction. By recoding the data points of each pattern’s entry and exit points from her detection range, she could hazard a rough guess at the number of Shinigami operating in the area. Once she knew that, it was simple enough to avoid them without any nasty surprises. Assuming they didn’t come looking for her, anyway.

But, Kakashei was tired of the never ending routine that came with being a captain. Dealing with paper work and other crap, it was all just tireing and annoying. So, he was allowed clearance to come to the Human World, under the excuse of finding out more information about the unknown third party that may or may not be a threat. Though in all honesty, he only came to rest, take in the scenary, and finally relax. Though one can never expect what will happen, especially since he was heading to Karakura Town. It would be difficult to not run into something or someone there.
Within the air over downtown karakura, a circular senkaimon appeared. It's doors slowly opened, revealing a bright white light. Inside was Kakashei, who made faint steps forward and out of the senkaimon. With the use of his reiryoku, he manage to stand within the air, while his gaze turn towards the ground below. Hovering towards the ground, the senkaimon slowly closed behind him, and quickly vanish. Landing on top of a roof-top, his gaze shifted towards the edge of the roof. Eyeing a cafe across from the building, he wondered what the food taste like.
Kakashei has never tasted some of the food in the human world, he has only traveled there four or five times. He knew the food was more than likely similar to that of what they ate in Soul Society, but they more than likely also differed. From his knowledge, human food was much sweeter and came in all kinds of shape and sizes. "Hmm, I wonder what are some ways I can rest? I could always travel along the ground with the humans, it would make it easier to see the sites." he muttered as he vanish and appeared along the ground.
Standing along the sidewalk, he look to his left and right, and decided to head into the cafe. Entering inside, his gaze shifted towards the pastries that outlined the front of the counter. Stepping out of harms way, his gaze shifted towards the others in the shop. He decided it was best to take a back seat and analyze things before making a final assumption. So he decided to see what it was that the the humans mostly ate and drink, before deciding to try it himself.

While her little scouting expedition was almost done, Soon-ja decided to remain at her table a while longer. After all, she had a prime one: right next to the open window with a pleasant view of the mildly populated streets. She jotted down a few more symbols on her notepad before closing it, satisfied with her work. The hours of data still need to be sifted through, but that was going to wait until later. She allowed herself to relax her concentration a bit, finally taking a sip of her coffee. She grimaced as the lukewarm liquid tricked down her throat. She was going to need a new cup.
Soon-ja returned to the counter, bringing her old mug along with her. It didn’t take long before Soon-ja had acquired a fesh, steaming mug with a sizable chunk of coffee cake to accompany it, but in that brief time something in the air changed. She detected a new, massive Reiryoko signature entering her field of detection. There was one problem: it was moving fast. Too fast. In Soon-ja’s experience, when a pattern moves at such a pace, there are only two possible explanations: the target is just absurdly, incomprehensibly fast or the target is extremely close by. Still gripping her cup and cake, Soon-ja turned around to survey the small area.
Karakura town truly was the worst place. She’d been in the accursed place for less than a week and she’d already encountered two captains of the Gotei 13. The subject of the disturbance was certainly close. A young man in a sleeveless white captain’s haori was in the same damn café as her. Even worse, the white haired Shinigami was standing directly between her and her seat. As far as Soon-ja could tell, the Shinigami hadn’t detected her yet. While she was attempting to conceal her Reiatsu was much as possible, it was inevitable that some leaked through her skilled containment. The fact that the man hadn’t taken notice, especially given their close proximity, was either because he was oblivious or concentrating on something else entirely. She was going to operate on the latter assumption.
Her Zanpakuto was still leaned against her chair, conspicuous despite the black cloth covering she kept it hidden in. There was no way she was leaving it behind. It also wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense to just waltz right out carrying a ceramic mug of coffee. Instead, she steeled herself and attempted to casually return to her seat, her shirtsleeve nearly brushing the man’s arm.

It wasn't long before he felt the supress reiatsu resonating from one of the customers. Looking to his left and right, his gaze shifted towards his feet. Eyeing a blade, he question how a zanpakuto could be out, unless whoever it was wasn't in a gigai. Raising his gaze towards the counter, his eyes center onto a female. She appeared quite young, not bad looking either. But he could tell she was the one that the reiatsu came from, though she was trying very hard to supress it. Which meant she was probably a rogue shinigami.
Sighing, he honestly did not feel like dealing with soul reaper work today. Pacing forward, he pass by the female and stop at the counter. Eyeing the pastries, he question if he wanted one or not. Shifting his gaze towards the female, he turn and look towards her. "Rogue Shinigami, which one of these pastries would you reccommend me trying?" he question as he turn to look back at the pastries while waiting for a response.
While he waited, his hands adjusted his captains haori a bit. Flipping some of the hair from out of his face, he place his index finger onto his chin. He honestly had a difficult time trying to figure out a pastry that he wanted to try the most. He may also end up trying a cup of their famous coffee or one of its variations. He knew it may of had been out of the ordinary for him to not act on his duties as a captain. Usually he would more than likely have to question the female on who she was and why she was here. He would then try to take her into custody, she would be against it, and then a pointless fight would start. Kakashei honestly did not feel like going through this, so he instead decided to ignore the fact that she was a rogue shinigami. Though if she did ended up starting a altercation, he had no problem finishing it.

While it would initially seem that the various extra accessories spread about Soon-ja’s tables were to keep random passersby from talking to her, that wasn’t quite correct. It was to stop the spiritually unaware from attempting to steal her occupied seat. In fact she’d chosen the particular shop for reasons other than its central location and tasty food: a number of the staff had the fortunate ability to see her. While the concentration was an oddity, it also meant it was a likely target point for rampaging hollows giving her all the more reason to stay out of her gigai. While it was unlikely that the captain’s appearance would cause a commotion, Soon-ja couldn’t help but worry for the staff’s sanity.
Once again, Soon-ja couldn’t help but second guess her initial reaction to flee. Her interactions with the captain of the tenth squad earlier in the week had proved the Gotei 13 weren’t actively seeking her out. At least not her specifically, though they did seem to keep some sort of tabs on the ‘freelancing’ Shinigami. She was still a little foggy on the subject, but it was going to be her backstory if asked. It was always good to have a plan. The major thing that bothered her was the captain’s choice of words. ‘Rogue Shinigami’. It had a much more sinister ring than ‘freelancing’. Still, she couldn’t help but be a little confused. He wanted advice on food? He seemed, oddly enough, entirely serious.
Soon-ja wasn’t the foremost expert on the subject, but she wasn’t about to for the man to ask someone else. She briefly considered the case, running through what she’d tried. Assuming, of course, the recipes hadn’t changed in the past few years. “For sweet, I’d recommend a ‘morning bun’ or some kind of muffin. I’m partial to blueberry myself.” Soon-ja pointed to a tray of haphazardly piled rolls of cinnamon and pastry beside a row of impressive looking muffins in a myriad of flavors. “For savory, it’s a little harder. The red pepper focaccia isn’t really a pastry, but the cheese, nuts, and peppers inside are pretty good. When you decide, she can take your order.” Soon-ja pointed at a very specific, energetic looking girl who was currently working the register before awkwardly returning to her seat.
Given the new situation, it was a little difficult for the freelancing Visored to enjoy her newly acquired refreshments. Instead she kept glancing at the captain, wondering what he could possibly be doing. How often did Shinigami come to the real world with no discernible reason?

They all look so delicious, though he now question which were sweet and which were not. "So these humans can see us as well, interesting. I am guessing it is because they have been in your company a lot? Nevertheless, it does make things a bit more easy for me. It takes the job of having to retrieve the delicious treats myself." he spoke out loud while rubbing his index and thumb on his chin. Looking to the workers over the counter, he raised and flash a smile.
"I will try this blueberry muffin she is speaking of. Along with one of those, and one of those. Sorry, I am not clear on their names." the other two he was referring to was the cinnamon bun the female visored spoke of, and the spicy treat. Kakashei was not the type to remember things unless hearing them multiple times. Though, that also depends on what ever something is referred as. If it is called by its name, he can remember, but if it is just words. he only remember a few.
Exhaling, the female behind the counter nodded and collected the two pastries and the other. Asking him if there was something else he wanted. he took a moment to examine the list of drinks. "Hmm, what is your most delicious drink? You know what, don't tell me, I'll take that as well. I can simply judge myself." he stated while once again flashing a slight smile. Taking a moment to make the drink, the female returned and handed him his order. "I wonder if the payment currency is the same as it is in Soul Society?" he spoke in thought as he gave a nod to the female and took his order.
Turning, he notice the visored was eyeing him. She must of had been on the defensive. Kakashei was not really that surprise, most rogue and freelance shinigami/visoreds were always watching their backs for the shinigami to find them. While of course soul society did want to find those that have fled, Kakashei wasn't surprised if they were not looking very hard. Hell, they know where Kiskue Urahara is located and they still have yet to take him, maybe because he help sealed Aizen? Though he thinks they knew before that as well.
Looking to the visored, he raised his left brow a bit. "You should really not be so stiff. Obviously I am not out to take you back to Soul Society. its to much work. And at the moment I just feel like taking a rest from my duties. So, how about you join me." he suggested as he walk to her table and took a seat opposite of where she was sitting. Setting down his meal and drink, he slowly begin to eat his meal, taking in every delicious bite and trying to identify the taste. "I was right to come here. This is delicious." he stated out loud while taking a sip of his drink.

Too much work? Soon-ja couldn’t tell whether to take the comment as a complement or just take it as a sign the Shinigami was lazy. She almost wanted to berate him for skirting what she assumed to be some kind of work. She managed, however, to hold her tongue. While she wouldn’t ever shirk her duty, she wasn’t a member of the Gotei, nor was she anywhere close to this man’s superior, so she has no right to lecture him on proper conduct. Instead she decided to introduce herself. If they were going to eat together, it only made sense to know each other’s names.
“I’m Sonja, freelance Visored.” Seeing as she’d introduced herself in a similar manner to Jin, she figured giving her name and ‘profession’ to the other captain wouldn’t be an issue. He didn’t seem particularly interested in apprehending her anyway. At least he seemed to be enjoying his food. To some extent, Soon-ja was enjoying her own but, regardless of what the Shinigami said, she couldn’t relax.
She took a sip of her coffee, grimacing at the bitterness. A sugar cube quickly made its way into her cup as Soon-ja spun the dark liquid into a small whirlpool with her long spoon. She shifted uncomfortably in the cushioned chair as she watched the swirling coffee slowly dissolve the crystalline structure, the hot liquid quickly eating away at its sides. There wasn’t a whole lot to talk about, especially with the amount of tension she felt just being in close proximity to the captain. It turns out centuries of habits were hard to suppress. She took a deep breath and asked the first question that came to mind.
“How is the Soul Society these day?”
[/b] The question was general, with no real purpose or hidden intent. Soon-ja was actually fairly curious, but it was mostly just to break the silence that had begun to settle on the small table. He could not help but admire the texture and taste of the pastry. One bite and it already crumbles, it was a bit rare. It was certainly better than his favorite treat, sweet dumplings. Though maybe it was because this was sweeter? Kakashei was a bit weak when it cames to such things as this. Sweets were something he could never turn down or look away from, though he was smart to not feel up on them to much. If he hate to much, he wouldn't have the physique he has now.
Taking another sip of his drink, it was certainly something that he had never tasted before. It wasn't sake, but that was probably a good thing, to much alcohol could get him a bit tipsy. No, this drink had a high amount of cafine in it, along with a milk like taste. The white whip cream topping was a good addition as well, along with the chocolate. He would ask what it was referred as, but it would be a waste of his time. No, he instead decided that it would be best to just admire its taste. At least for now, he may should ask for the name, if he ever wants one again.
Exhaling, he finish the cinnamon pastry around the same time the female visored spoke. It seem she had decided it would be nice to give out each others name. Looking towards her direction, he took a moment to swallow the last of the pastry before speaking. "It is nice to meet you, Soon-ja. I am Kakashei Haruko, the current captain of division five." he was formal as usual, he was pretty use to doing as such. He actually thought it was a bit disrespectful of him to had not given his name in the first place.
Turning back to his plate, he turn towards the blue berry muffin. Raising it to his lips, he took a big chunk out of it while also looking around the cafe. He questioned if the other customers could see him. If they didn't he wonder what they thought about the employees handing orders to nothing but air. Though luckily there weren't a lot of customers in the shop to begin with, so he doubt there would be any big commotion. "The same, a bit more lenient. Visoreds are now accepted, mainly because of the big battle against the former espada and Souske Aizen. I'm sure you have heard of it? Anyway, not much has change. Different Captains here and there, like myself. And there is a big issue with the new espada and a unkown third party who may even be more powerful, yada, yada." he answered with a slightly bored-ish tone. He wasn't to fond of having to deal with so many enemies, but it happens.
"So, Soon-ja. How long has it been sense you have been in soul society? Was your leaving because of you turning into a visored? I doubt they are after you anymore." he question while taking another bite out of his muffin. Sitting up in his chair, he waited for a answer while also enjoying his treat.

Soon-ja once again glanced at her watch, ensuring she wasn’t staying past her allotted time. The old timepiece was still chugging along, its minute hand slowly passing up the hour hand as the time ticked by. She’d had the thing for the past half a century; she utilized it almost every day to ensure that her time tables were kept consistent. The worn leather timepiece was almost as important to her as her job. She still had another hour or so before she had to leave for training, time she was now willing to spend talking to her new acquaintance, Kakashei Haruko.
The man’s words interested Soon-ja. Accepting of Visoreds, eh? She had gotten wind that few from the renegade group had rejoined the Gotei 13, something she had certainly not expected. She wasn’t really aware of the circumstances that surrounded their creation, only that Aizen had been somehow involved. Their actions thereafter may have earned them enough respect for any past sins to be absolved, but Soon-ja herself had done no such service to deserve redemption. Unless one considered her continued devotion to her Shinigami duties, anyway.
“Mhmm. That was part of it.”
[/b] She didn’t really want to get further into the subject other than just straight up admitting it. She had long considered that the Soul Society wasn’t tracking her. After all, she had tried to hide her departure as best as possible. It wasn’t that she assumed they searching for her, it was that, if she were taken in and her records check, it would likely show her as deceased. Any further checking might lead to the situation surrounding said ‘death’. The only logical conclusion from there was that she was either a dishonorable deserter or a murderer fleeing the scene of a crime. Still, so long as the captain wasn’t interested in taking her back, Soon-ja had no real problem with him. “So you are a captain. What are you doing in out here? Shouldn’t you be doing… work?”[/b] [/div] [/center] [newclass=.t1p]border-top: 5px solid E8CA8E; border-bottom: 5px solid #E8CA8E; text-align: justify; font-size: 11px; width: 300px; padding: 5px;[/newclass]

Shrugging, he adjust his captain's haori a bit so it wouldn't slump down over his biceps. Fixing his hair as well, he turn back to his delicious pastries. Finishing the rest of his blue-berry muffin, he drunk it down with his drink while also casting his gaze out to the rest of the cafe. He still question if the other humans could see them or not. It would be rather odd if they could all see spiritual beings, but if the female was to spend a lot of time in this place, her reiatsu could linger around. Then again, it could only be the staff that sees them, though it may be difficult for them to explain why they were handing dishes to a invinsible entity.
"Hmm, are all the humans here spiritually aware? Or is it just the staff? You must spend a lot of time here for them to be able to see us." he commented while lookint to his plate. He had yet to try his last treat. Unlike the other two. this one was more on the spicy side. Which mainly meant that it wasn't sweet. Tearing off a piece, he place it to his lips while and place it along his tongue. Chewing down along the spicy treat, he made a questionable facial expression. "This Red Pepper Forcaccia? Was it? It is really good, oddly enough. You can really taste the cheese, nuts, and the peppers." he acknowledged while drinking some of his drink.
Hearing her next question, Kakashei took a moment to answer while pausing for a moment. "Well, I decided to take a day to myself. Why do you think I am not trying so hard to take you into custody? Plus there is also the fact that you may be stronger, so things would just end up being difficult, No?" he ask while finishing up the red pepper forcaccia. Drinking down the last of his drink, he exhale with a light hiss. "That was delicious."

“I keep stuff around so it doesn’t look too awkward.” Soonja motioned at the various things that lay scattered around the table with a slight gesture. While a decent number of the staff members were spiritually aware, it couldn’t be said for every single one of them. And such could definitely not be said about all the patrons. Although it did seem that there was an oddly high concentration of spiritually aware people in the café on the average day. Perhaps their own odd circumstances brought them together subconsciously; perhaps those who only recently became aware looked for companionship in those who were similar.
“I can’t say I’ve ever had a problem with people noticing. Occasionally I erect a barrier, but that would’ve hindered my tracking project.” Though now the entire thing seemed rather pointless; or the act at least held slightly less important than she’d originally thought. The captain continued to imply that he’d normally take her into custody, but both the Shinigami she’d encountered seemed to have no intent to do so. Either they were all lazy or nobody followed that ideal anymore. Soon-ja still planned on sifting and analyzing the data. It also didn’t help she’d allocated a block of time later to do just so. It was terrible to think she’d wasted a large chunk of her day for nothing. Even if she didn’t have to avoid them entirely, it was always a good idea to know what kind of forces already occupied the area.
Soon-ja took a bite of her own food, the crumbling cake’s sweet crunch satisfying alongside her still slightly bitter drink. She smiled slightly as Kakashei expressed his enjoyment of the food. Luckily enough he’d enjoyed her suggestions, or at least seemed to, and he acted satisfied enough. To be quite honest, she was still a tad uncomfortable around the captain; slightly on edge. It was hard not to be. Other than exterminating hollows, the two didn’t seem to have a whole lot in common. Not that Soon-ja was really probing for that sort of information. “I’m glad you liked the food. You certainly ate more than most people. Usually people go to restaurants when they’re really in the mood for a meal. Don’t you eat food in the Soul Society? High spiritual pressure people get hungry and all that.”

Was it because of the town it self or was it because of the spiritual beings that inhabited it? There is a large amount of them here, so he wouldn't be surprised if more than half was spiritually aware. It would be odd, but that did seem like the case. It didn't seem as if it was the doing of the freelance visored. Well, she could have a part in it. Tuning back into the conversation, he look to the objects she was pointing too. It seems she did a lot to avoid the shinigami that were on patrol around here. It was odd, but maybe that was how most visoreds and rouge shinigami lived now a days?
He could only imagine how it felt to always have that sense of paranoia. Thinking you were going to be apprehended at any time. Though that begs the question, Why not just get one of those gigai's? He was positive that they were rather easy to come by, if you knew the right people. "So why don't you just roam around in a gigai? It would be much easier to interact with others and not deal with the suspicion of being apprehended every day. Doesn't Kisuke Urahara sell them in a shop not so far from here?" he question while siting back in his chair.
Now that he thought about it, could Urahara's shop be monitored by soul society? It wouldn't be surprising, but he didn't think they cared very much anymore. They do owe him for sealing Aizen anyway. It seems the Kurosaki boy has help to make the soul society a lot more lenient than it was before, it was interesting to say the least. Hearing her next question, he let out a light chuckle. "You forget that I am a man, I have a large appetite. Plus, I was interested in how the food here tasted. And it was very delicious. So thank you for your suggestion." he answered while wiping the crumbs from around his mouth.
