FACE CLAIM:GIRLS OF THE WILD -- QUEEN
HEIGHT:172 cm (5 ft 8 in)
WEIGHT:60 kg (132 lb)
APPEARANCE:Verena’s look is maintained through necessity rather than vanity; her school has a fairly strict code of conduct and expulsion would likely leave her homeless. She rarely does anything to her appearance above and beyond the bare minimum requirements. Her long, straight blonde hair is usually left to its own devices, falling around her shoulders haphazardly and reaching slightly past her buttocks. Her straight-cut bangs frame her feminine, if slightly tinged by ruggedness, facial features and deep hazel eyes. She’s fairly muscular from her own personal training, though it can be difficult to tell in her average attire.
On most occasions, Verena wears her school’s female uniform: a white collared shirt, a black blazer with pinkish highlights, a pink and white striped tie, and a matching skirt. At least in the environment she usually hangs out in, it doesn’t stand out in the slightest. She also carries a slim black and blue sling pack across her back, her combat knife concealed in the slightly modified cellphone pouch on the strap. While the bag is usually used to carry school supplies, books, binders, and whatever else she needs, Verena also uses it as a pseudo quiver for her collapsed arrows.
LIKES:Tinkering Verena enjoys working with her hands; she’d much rather attempt a practical application than theorize about one. To this end, one of her major hobbies is the creation and testing of various makeshift weapons and equipment for her eventual conflicts. If something doesn’t work quite right, or Verena thinks it could be improved in some way, she’ll waste no time in pulling the thing apart and reassembling it. That doesn’t mean she’ll actually be able to fix it, just that she’ll try. Fortunately this really only applies to mechanical thing; people, hollows, and other creatures are safe from her prying hands.
Tea Hot flavored water is Verena’s favorite way to get her morning dose of caffeine. She drinks her fair share of tea during the course of the day, though she doesn’t quite enjoy the cold variant as much. In fact, almost all hot drinks tickle her fancy from coffee to hot chocolate. Tea just happens to be her favorite. It’s easy to make while in a groggy stupor and it makes for a rather nice way to start a day. She does prefer it a little stronger than most, though.
Archery While it’s a more recent hobby, Verena quite enjoys practicing her archery. It’s an old sport that she was forced to take up, though she finds it quite calming. It’s a solitary activity that is both useful for her survival and important for her overall physical and mental health. She also quite enjoys seeing her own progress in terms of skill; target practice is a good way to obviously see her own advancements.
Gardening This is another activity Verena finds calming and fascinating, though for slightly different reasons. She’s in charge of the maintenance of the front garden of her dorm, a position she gladly accepted. She often allows odd weeds to grow out just to see their full potential, occasionally incorporating them into the cacophony of plants that litter the area. Just maintaining the beds is enjoyable enough, though she truly takes joy in coaxing the area to life.
DISLIKES:Mornings She isn’t a morning person. Coffee, tea, or something strong alongside a hot shower is required to get Verena to her full functioning capacity. She’s also quite prone to extreme grogginess and grumpiness, not a very beautiful combination. This doesn’t just apply to mornings, ether. After a nap, or any extended time asleep, she’ll be a little messed up when she’s finally roused. Also, she definitely doesn’t react well to being woken up, despite being quite a light sleeper.
Shinigami Verena harbors slight distrust for all Shinigami. More than usual, anyway. She finds their cause just, but their methods horribly executed. She partially blames them for the death of her grandparents and, much more importantly, the death of her father and disappearance of her mother. While she defeats and cleanses Hollow for practice, she would gladly slay a Shinigami for fun. Maybe ask a few questions first, but the thought of revenge would also be at the back of her mind.
Sleep This doesn’t quite refer to sleep in general; she actually quite enjoys sleeping. She just has to be sleeping in her own bed. She dislikes sleeping anywhere else. It might seem like an odd quirk, but she has a difficult time resting properly when out of her element. She may collapse from exhaustion is kept awake for too long, but when roused she’ll be extra annoyed. This pretty much eliminates camping and other overnight excursions. It helps that the school dorms have a rather strict curfew.
Tattoos Constant reminders of a temporary desire. To Verena, they have no real purpose, serving only to defile the person’s body in a, usually, grotesque manner. There are very few she can stand, though even the modest and tasteful forms of body art are enough to cause her to judge someone. She also doesn’t really like them because they’d hurt to get. Probably. She doesn’t have any of her own, so she wouldn’t really know.
NEGATIVE TRAITS:Distrustful Trust isn’t something easily given, nor will Verena often give someone the chance of backstabbing her. She’s constantly wary of people, assuming everyone has an ulterior motive or a hidden goal. No good deed is done without expecting some sort of repayment. While this does, to some degree, affect her ability to keep personal relationships afloat, work ones don’t seem to be much of a problem. Any sort of trust that is given is tentative at best; something as simple as a misplaced text or phone call could shatter the brittle bond. Luckily, such ‘betrayals’ aren’t taken very harshly. After all, Verena already expects them.
Selfish Verena’s own needs come before others. Always. Just like she thinks everyone else has their own ulterior motives, she too has plans of her own. If she does someone a favor, it isn’t just to be nice. She does things for a reason and, if her actions seem too good to be true, she probably has another reason for doing them. She uses people like tools with the full expectation that they’re doing the same.
Apathetic While she might be proud of the decisions she does make, she only cares about a select few facets of her life. To some it might appear that she doesn’t really care about the vast majority of things – where to eat, how many apples to buy, what time to leave – but in reality she just doesn’t find them that important. She won’t do anything completely absurd, but she won’t expend the effort to argue over something that, in the grand scheme of things, barely even matters to her. This doesn’t quite make her indecisive, but she’ll rarely try and overrule a trivial decision. Don’t mistake this for laziness.
POSITIVE TRAITS:Proud Verena is proud of her lineage, even if it is a little tarnished, and of her own, slightly dysfunctional, abilities. This isn’t referring to an excessive sense of self importance, but rather a sense of satisfaction of her own choices and actions. Confident would be another way to put it. This extends past just Quincy related things; she takes satisfaction in plenty of everyday activities. She’s proud of her studies, her body, and a great many of her choices in life. She’ll go through a reasonable amount of effort to correct anything she finds unsavory.
Patient If the reason were good enough, Verena would have no problem watching paint dry or grass grow. So long as there’s a viable reason that she considers worthwhile, she’ll take her time to complete any task. Slow and steady wins the race. That doesn’t mean she can’t work frantically if the situation calls for it. In addition, it takes quite a bit of time or harassment to pester Verena. Calm might be another way to put it, but she rarely gets angry or irritated quickly.
Adventurous Verena is quite willing to try new things from food to experiences. She isn’t just willing, she often craves it. The unknown is what often drives her, a burning curiosity that can really only be sated by discovery and exploration. This can be foreign subjects, locations, or just knowledge in general. While the repetitive school and training schedules don’t bore her to death, she’ll often do whatever she can to mix them up, even if it’s just a different path through the school.
EXTRAS:Nope.
WEAPONS:Verena usually keeps a broad-bladed combat knife on her person at all times. Mostly because her other means of combat can't be readied instantly. Aside from that, she carried a variety of custom arrows alongside a physical compound bow.
Schneiden (Cutting) Arrows Schneiden arrows are created specifically by Verena for her own use. Created from Reishi-infused carbon-fiber, the shaft alone is slightly under a meter long, though the head of the ammunition brings it over a meter. The entire arrow is collapsible, the front and rear quarters sliding into the center. The arrow is divided into four equal sections, excluding the head, with the front and rear sections collapsing into the middle two. If the two center pieces are rotated clockwise, the arrow expands to its full size; the opposite, a counterclockwise rotation, will reset the arrow to its collapsed state. This action, when practiced, can be done with a single hand. When expanded, the arrow’s point slides out from inside the front section and six triangular blades balloon outward to form the brutal head. Once expanded, the bladed point is 20 centimeters long and 3 centimeters in diameter at its widest point, slowly tapering down to a point at the tip. The rear section houses three, 10 centimeter long rows of perforations that are evenly spaced around the exterior near the back end of the shaft. Both the front and the rear sections have four groves that run their entire lengths that allow the pieces to be compressed; this keeps the diameter of the entire shaft consistent while extended but allows the pieces to slide into the center when needed. While possibly not immediately apparent, the entire construction is hollow.
Alone, the arrow is extremely susceptible to recollapsing on its own; the head, front, and rear only require a small amount of inward pressure to reset them to their original positions. If fired from any normal bow with no modifications, the arrow’s effective range would be absolutely abysmal and its striking power completely negligible. With a completely lack of any fletching, the arrow’s flight would also be unpredictable at best.
Zerbechen (Shatter) Arrows Zerbechen arrows are created specifically by Verena for her own use. They’re extremely similar to Schneiden arrows in construction, including everything from their collapsible frame to the fletching perforations and compression grooves. They expand and retract in the same clockwise and counterclockwise motions as well. There are two main differences between the two weapons: their size and arrowheads. The Zerbechen arrows are shorter at around 70 centimeters, their compressed size being only 35 centimeters. The head of the arrow, like the Schneiden, extends from the front section of the arrow when extended, however it’s mostly cylindrical. The head is approximately 10 centimeters long with the same diameter at the rest of the shaft. It’s constructed with roughly a hundred, 1 millimeter wide Reishi-infused carbon-fiber bladed disks threaded onto a long, thin modified Gintō tube. The end of the cylinder is capped with a triangular formation of small perforations.
Alone, the Zerbechen arrows have the same problems as the Schneiden arrows; they’re flimsy, easily collapse, and have terrible flight capabilities. They lack fletching, so they also are prone to veering off course and have absolute horrific arcs. In addition, the damage caused by the arrow would be minimal at best as the tip is completely blunt.
Schelmisch (Impish) Arrows Schelmisch arrows are made specifically by Verena for her own use. They’re much closer to Zerbechen arrows in both size and construction, including the cylindrical blunt head, total length, perforations, and other features. The main difference is the actual contents of the head: while Zerbechen arrows house hundreds of small blades, the Schelmisch arrow only contains an odd array of snaking, Reishi-infused soul silver sandwiched between a pair of modified, slightly flatter, Gintō tubes. As far as their use as actual arrows, Schelmisch are completely worthless. They’re blunt, don’t fly straight, and are prone to collapse unless reinforced.
Compound Bow The bow Verena carries is a standard compound bow, though slightly modified for comfort and ease of use. The black carbon-fiber frame is whittled down to the bare bones to reduce weight, the skeletal limbs stretching out and ending with a pair of pulley wheels. The entire bow is 91 centimeters from axle to axle and the longest draw is similarly just less than 90 centimeters. The grip, previously ridged plastic, has since been refitted with polished, hexagonally textured rosewood. Verena keeps the entire weapon inside a modified, hard shell trombone case so as to keep it as inconspicuous as possible. The bottom half contains the bow itself, keeping the string taut and the construction fully intact, as well as various maintenance supplies. The top half has storage for about a dozen collapsed custom arrows, secured into place by a series of straps.
BOW:Verena’s Reishi-formed bow takes the standard appearance any fledgling Quincy, though the entire creation is unstable. Fortunately for her, this isn’t her main weapon. Instead of using a bow completely formed of Reshi, Verena instead reinforces her existing physical bow. By attempting to form the bow inside the physical weapon, she is able to force the bow to shoot Reshi arrows and act as any normal Quincy bow should. The bow does change in appearance slightly, taking on a bluish hue and glow. The string of the weapon is laced with a shimmering blue light that shines from between the miniscule fibers. QUINCY CROSS:Verena uses a Quincy cross she discovered in her father’s storage container. Who originally owned the cross is unknown but, given the appearance of the cross, it would be likely that it was used by someone of a much older generation. The pendant is in the form of a silver cog with evenly spaced outward ridges; the words “the hunter becomes the hunted” are etched into both sides encircling the entire ring. The hollow center is filled with what appears to be a cross, though the sides, top, and bottom are melded into the surrounding silver. The entire cross is attached to a silver chain around Verena’s left wrist. SANREI GLOVE:Nope. Has access to one but has no idea how to use it. BOW/GINTO TECHNIQUES:Name: Machtvolle (Empowered) Item used: Bow, Schneiden Type: Offensive Cost: Minor Range: Long Cooldown: 2 posts Description:The user fills a Schneiden’s hollow interior with Reishi, reinforcing the collapsible arrow. This technique is extremely similar to any Quincy’s normal arrow, though the energy is contained within physical confines of the arrow rather than controlled precisely by the user. The Schneiden itself changes appearance slightly, the groves in the head emitting a shimmering blue light and the perforations in the rear releasing similar trails to form the arrow’s fletching. This reinforcement effect will last for two posts or until the arrow is fired from a bow, in which case the effect changes slightly.
Once loosed, the arrow uses its internally stored Reishi to continue its acceleration and to maintain its flight path. While the speed of the shot generally remains constant for its 100 meter distance, the power of the attack drastically drops past the 50 meter mark. Basically, the close the target, the more powerful the impact will be. Past 100 meters the arrow loses all stored Reishi and returns to normal, often collapsing on impact.
Name: Sturmscheibe (Storm Slice) Item used: Bow, Zerbechen Type: Offensive Cost: Moderate Range: Long Cooldown: 3 posts Description:The user fills a Zerbechen’s hollow interior with Reishi, reinforcing the collapsible arrow. This technique is extremely similar to any Quincy’s normal arrow, though the energy is contained within physical confines of the arrow rather than controlled precisely by the user. The Zerbechen changes appearance slightly; the holes in the flat tip of the arrow emit a spike of light blue energy to form a cutting point and the perforations in the rear release trails of a similar color to form the arrow’s fletching. This reinforcement effect will last for two posts or until the arrow is fired from a bow, in which case the effect changes slightly.
The arrow fires and arcs like a normal arrow; the Reishi fletching does a fine enough job of keeping the flight course correct and the Reishi point acts as sharp bodkin arrowhead. At any point during the arrow’s two post duration, the user may give the command “Schlag” which causes the Reishi infused into the arrow to puncture the Gintō tube and react with the substance contained within. While the resulting explosion is too small to do any real harm, it flings the contained bladed disks in every direction like shrapnel. The shrapnel has a maximum effective range of about a one meter before the damage drops in significantly in severity.
Name: Spannungsspitzen (Power Spike) Item used: Bow, Schelmisch Type: Offensive Cost: Moderate Range: Long Cooldown: 4 posts Description:The user fills two to three Schelmisch’s hollow interiors with Reishi, reinforcing the collapsible arrows. This technique is extremely similar to any Quincy’s normal arrow, though the energy is contained within physical confines of the arrow rather than controlled precisely by the user. Each Schelmisch changes appearance slightly; the holes in the flat tip of the arrow emit a spike of light blue energy to form a cutting point and the perforations in the rear release trails of a similar color to form the arrow’s fletching.
At any point during the arrow’s two post duration, the user may give the command “Wogen” which causes the Reishi infused into the arrow to puncture the Gintō tube and react with the substance contained within. The result is a massive surge of energy that starts at the oldest Schelmisch and rapidly jumps to each other activated arrow in order of activation. Anything caught by the swiftly moving arcs is subject to slight cutting damage and heavy impact force. This command can only be invoked once before burning out all the cores on the arrows.
Name: Unbeherrscht (Uncontrolled) Item used: Bow Type: Offensive Cost: Moderate Range: Short Cooldown: 5 posts Description:The user gathers by Reishi by pulling back the string on their bow, forming the mass of spirit particles into a rough arrow shape. The unstable projectile spits out tendrils of loose, shimmering blue energy, a testament to the unshackled power of the technique and, sadly, to the lack of control by the user. When the user releases the string, the arrow surges forward exploding forward as it passes the grip. The shards of Reishi shred outward like a wide blast of a shotgun, lacerating any targets unfortunate enough to be hit. The attack only has a maximum range of about three meters in a 90 degree cone from the front of the bow. QUINCY: VOLLSTANDIGname: usually in german, but doesn't have to be.

HISTORY:Verena’s current goals, personality, and lifestyle stem from something much more ancient than her own life. Their origins lie in the distant past, long before her parents further diluted the Quincy blood that flowed through her veins, back when the Quincy were first purged. Verena’s ancestors were pure-blooded; a family of entirely Quincy lineage that managed to weather the slaughter of 200 years ago. Their survival, however, was not without a significant cost. When the Shinigami swept through the Quincy ranks they fled into hiding without so much as a lick of resistance or offer of assistance. While their brothers and sisters were slaughtered, they disappeared into the woodworks without so much as a trace left behind. While the bloodline survived, the family name was forever tarnished.
The family, afraid of discovery and repercussions for their cowardly actions, lived on inconspicuously for the next hundred or so years, discarding their titles as Quincy. For slightly over the next century, the family slowly diluted its once pure Quincy blood and quickly began to forget about its roots. All the previous years of honed skill and treasured artifacts were long forgotten, cast off as relics of an age passed. All would have progressed normally for the family from then on, with no one the wiser of their past deeds, if Verena’s grandfather had not married into another mixed-blooded sect. It wasn’t long before the newlyweds were off slaughtering Hollows with all the fervor of the generations past.
To escape the forsaken name of the old family, her grandparents changed their last name to ‘Jaeger’, or hunter, and, ignoring the pleas of their own parents, attempted to cull the Hollow threat. When they had their oldest son, Lenz, they attempted to train him in a similar manner. Lenz, however, had very different plans for his life. While he endured the training and was, by all accounts, a fairly apt Quincy, he refused to constantly devote his life to the cause. Instead he attempted to live his life normally, going to school, college, and eventually finding a reasonable job. It wasn’t long before he met the love of his life and settled down.
By the time Verena was born, her grandparents had long since retired from their Quincy duties. Even though they no longer ravenously hunted the Hollows, they still continued to look for someone to continue their legacy. The birth of their only grandchild was the perfect opportunity. Verena’s father tried his best to keep them from his daughter, intent that she not be subjected to the same training he had endured. His wife, while aware of the situation, had no spiritual ability and thus was particularly interested in keeping her daughter’s life as normal as possible. As such, Verena’s early years were about as uneventful as they come. She wasn’t spoiled or subjected to any abnormalities and she was always kept out of arms reach of her mysterious grandparents.
Just before her 15th birthday, Verena’s grandparents were slain by a Hollow. The young girl wasn’t particularly close to them; her father had done an extremely good job at keeping them at bay. The funeral was a drab affair. Even in death Verena was told almost nothing of their lives. While Lenz wasn’t a vengeful man, he was wary. And with good reason. The deaths were abnormal at best; two retired Quincy murdered in their home by a Hollow wasn’t something that happened often. His caution wasn’t unwarranted. The specific Hollow seemed to have a certain hunger for Quincy blood. It wasn’t long before it found more. While he might’ve been skilled as a young adult, his skill had definitely deteriorated from disuse and neglect.
Her father’s death hit Verena’s family in a significant way. Her mother could barely retain her sanity as she attempted to maintain management of the company Lenz had run. Verena herself was admitted to a boarding school where she was intended to finish her schooling while her mother coped with the loss of her husband. While Verena lived the majority of her life at, and around, the school itself, she would visit her mother every weekend to catch up and touch bases. Her life continued in that frantic manner for another year before her mother mysteriously disappeared, leaving nothing behind but tuition payments and a cryptic message about ‘finding herself’.
Following the disappearance of her mother, Verena chose to further investigate her father’s death. While her continued schooling and strict curfew caused her much difficulty, she managed to track down the source of the problem. What she discovered was a secret far more interesting than she couldn’t possibly imagined. Deep within one of her father’s storage containers she found his inheritance: piles of Quincy manuscripts, various trinkets and artifact, and dozens of letters. The writings she set aside for later and the baubles were all but useless to Verena. The letters she read, their contents were on a variety of subjects from her own upbringing to the state of Quincy affairs. They painted a much different picture of her grandparent’s and father’s life. It was oddly easy for the young girl to digest; she’d always suspected something was off.
Verena poured through the ancient texts, discovering a retelling of the slaughter from 200 years prior. What mainly bothered her wasn’t the actual murder of the Quincy – the reasons seemed to be valid, though possibly falsified – but the lack of action on the part of the Shinigami. It infuriated her. If they had, in fact, wiped out humanity’s only defense, they should’ve kept a much better watch on the human world. The Quincy plan had been soundly rejected, or at least ignored, by the Shinigami. It seemed that, despite their best attempts, the Shinigami only wanted the blood and slaughter any opposition to their authority. The more she stewed on the subject, the more she began to grow wary of the Shinigami’s reasoning. The more she considered the events around her father’s death and the disappearance of her mother, the more Verena grew to hate and distrust the Soul Society.
Based solely on the descriptions she found inside the ancient tomes, she began attempting the formation of a bow. Her early attempts were pathetic; often times she questions whether or not the writings were actually true. Perhaps they were the ravings of her insane grandparents. Still, she continued. Her progress floundered and she tried for weeks to merely form a bow. When she finally managed to create one, it was wrought with issues. Brittle and unstable, she could barely loose an arrow from the thing. Rather than slaving away at perfecting the technique without the assistance and guidance of a teacher, Verena decided to take a different approach. In order to compensate for her ineptitude, she moved to a different tactic: reinforcing an existing, physical bow using her cross so as not to force herself to full manifest a bow. She applied the same ideal to arrows as well. The method was reasonably effective, allowing her to shift her focus to her physical capabilities rather than the precise control Quincy usually favored.
Verena’s current life is a bit of a mess. Her graduation is imminent, yet she has no plans for the future. She lives off what money her mother continues to send, though she's since given up attempting to track her down. The world she so desperately wants to be a part of has so far eluded Verena; despite her ability she’s somehow, miraculously, managed to avoid contact with everything but the weakest of Hollows. While she harbors an extreme prejudice against Shinigami, she’s never actually seen or talked to one. She continues to attend school while training her mind and body for her eventual revenge against the Soul Society. Revenge for something she was neither a part of, nor fully understands.
RP SAMPLE:This is the exact RP sample from Soon-ja's profile. If you want a new one, just tell me and I'll write another.
- - - - - - - - - - - -
Soon-ja had waited hours for night, watching the thin rays of light that shone through the deck slowly dissipate to make way for the encroaching darkness. The rocking of the boat had long since stopped, signaling that the ship had likely run aground. She tightened her grip on her weapon: an unusually large fishing hook. The hook itself was almost as large as her hand and, though the old metal had since rusted from neglect, the terrifying barbed tip was still extraordinarily sharp. The same tool that had helped her village persist for centuries was now her only salvation.
Her current predicament was anything but fortunate; trapped in an unknown boat in an unknown land for an unknown purpose. The curved wooden walls were stuffed with caulk, but trickles of sea water still managed to find their way into the damp hold. The two meter long bench upon which she sat was shared by three other prisoners giving no room to comfortably rest. The rest of the hold was similarly filled with benches, prisoners, and piles of random oddities with perceived value. The only exit from the hold was a single, sheer set of stairs that lead to the deck. And there was always a guard posted on the stairs. It made sneaking out extremely difficult, if not impossible. Past that one man, however, was possible freedom.
Soon-ja’s plan was essentially to disable the one guard and flee from whatever she discovered on the deck. It wasn’t prefect. It wasn’t even good. There were so many unknowns she couldn’t even begin to compensate for them. Regardless, she refused to sit and do nothing. She waved at the man to get his attention, indicating that she needed something. The guard hesitated at first, reluctant to leave his post, but eventually relented to Soon-ja’s constant beckons. The man wearily approached, always keeping one eye on the stairs and a hand on his sword. He spoke, though his words meant nothing to Soon-ja; she couldn’t even speak his language. With nothing to lose, she mustered her courage, took a deep breath, stood, and swung her weapon at the guard’s head.
The barbed hook slid cleanly through the soldier’s cheek, slicing through the skin with a disturbing lack of resistance. Soon-ja froze, her hand still gripping the textured metal, as she stared into the guard’s dark brown eyes. The man’s eyes slowly rotated to stare at the rusted iron hook protruding from under his left eye, his mind slowly processing the horrific event. He raised his left hand and carefully groped the punctured area; methodically feeling his way up the hook to Soon-ja’s shaking hand. His eyes widened as his disbelief was dispelled. He fully opened his mouth, but only a disturbing chocking noise emerged as he weakly attempted to pull back. Soon-ja watched the entire macabre scene in her frozen state, unable to muster the will to even run. The guard pause once more, shivered, and released a demonic howl that seemed to shake the very foundations of the ship.
The man’s unearthly shriek shook Soon-ja back into action; she yanked the hook towards her, bringing her knee up to meet the guard’s folding chest. She’d already set her escape in motion. Stopping here because of one man’s misfortune would do her no favors. Soon-ja felt a splitting pain in her joint as the sickening crunch of bones erupted from the guard’s ribcage. She released her grip on her makeshift weapon and bolted for the stairs towards the deck, stumbling as a fresh flow of blood gushed from her busted knee. The guard crumpled forward onto the bench, loosing a string of unintelligible curses mixed with screams of confusion and rage. The rest of the prisoners looked on with confusion, unable or unwilling to act. Those without the will to move forward would be left behind.
Soon-ja burst onto the deck of the ship, seeing her true surroundings for the first time. The ship appeared to be partially beached and the crew disembarked for the night. The moon shone at full strength, illuminating the shocked faces of the two soldiers posted on the ship, presumably to guard it. There was no time to formulate a proper plan, nor was she prepared to deal with armed soldiers without the element of surprise. Soon-ja proceeded with the only realistic option available: she hurled herself over the side, plunging into the chilly ocean below. The sea water soaked into her already filthy, blood-stained clothes, weighing down her already exhausted body. She floundered momentarily before pulling herself to shore as the guards began to raise the alarm.
She staggered down the beach, all swiftness lost with the ebb of adrenaline. Her knee burned with every step, blood still flowing from between the cracks of the caked sand. In the distance Soon-ja could swear she heard laughing alongside the distinctive crack of matchlock rifles. She barely noticed the sand erupting around her from the impacts of bullets, focusing all her remaining energy on forward movement. A burst of pain erupted from her right shoulder, forcing her into an awkward pirouette that spun her for a full rotation before slamming her face first into gritty sand.
And there she lay, waiting for the soldiers to come finish her off. A few more gunshots rang out along with their accompanying impacts, but then… nothing. A minute passed, then an hour. Nobody was coming. Soon-ja mustered her strength and pushed on, dragging herself through the sand. It took her another hour to drag herself into a small cave in the side of the cliff, away from prying eyes. She struggled to push herself upright, wincing as she placed weight on her ruptured shoulder. Tending to her wounds was her highest priority. Escape meant nothing if she died.
She screamed in pain as her fingers probed around her fresh wound, searching for the projectile. It was a disturbing and agonizing feeling. Her vision flicked and her fingers grew numb, forcing her to stop her fruitless search. Now helpless and immobile, Soon-ja could to nothing but stare at the wall opposite. She could barely twitch her limbs that were quickly losing feeling. The pain slowly subsided to a dull throb as her vision began to blacken. Though her final breath, she managed to grind out her final words. Words that only the cave would hear. ”What a shitty way to die.” CLASS/LEVEL:NV-1 STATS:HAN: 4 REI: 5 HAK: 9 SEI: 3 BUK: 9 HOH: 9 Points Earned: 0 Total points: 39
