Note: With the exception of Kyodai kigyo and the Hinadori, all summoned units’ defense is equal to 25% of Josk’s REI.
For: Shikai
Name: Brood Warrior: Mamushi
Type: Offensive
Cost: Medium – lasts for 10 posts (unless mask is removed) with a three-post cooldown
Range: Mid to Long
Description: By selecting this mask, Josk summons the Brood Warrior Mamushi to the battlefield. Mamushi is an aerial unit designed for mid-to-long range air-to-ground combat. It is extremely fast and agile compared to Josk’s other Shikai summon, but is also comparatively weaker as a result – possessing an attack equal to 20% of Josk’s REI. It fires what appear to be small globs of saliva – about the size of a ping pong ball – at a target. These globs splatter on impact and are acidic, causing slight damage if they’re not neutralized or removed. Living targets with REI greater than ¼ of Josk’s suffer little to no damage. Mamushi’s purpose is primarily to harass and distract targets, allowing Josk to close in for more powerful strikes with little interference. Mamushi is Josk’s preferred summon and he will rarely use his other one.
For: Shikai
Name: Brood Warrior: Kyuu
Type: Offensive/defensive
Cost: Medium – lasts for 10 posts (unless mask is removed) with a five-post cooldown
Range: All ranges
Description: By selecting this mask, Josk summons the Brood Warrior Kyuu to the battlefield. Kyuu is a ground unit. It is significantly stronger than Mamushi, possessing an attack equal to 50% of Josk’s REI. While not as speedy as Mamushi, Kyuu is not slow by any means. It tends to stay relatively close to Josk – usually within a 10-foot radius – and possesses both a ranged and melee attack. It uses its scythe-like arms to swipe and gut anyone foolish enough to come near it. For those who “wisely” choose to keep their distance, it can fire inch-long grooved spikes up to 150 feet away. In addition to being difficult to remove, thanks to the hooks on the ends of the grooves, these spikes also contain a mild poison that can numb opponents with a HAN lower than Josk’s. It starts as a tingle and gradually achieves total numbness by the third post, lingering for two posts and vanishing abruptly on the sixth post. It does not spread beyond the wounded limb. This is the summon Josk goes to when he has either thoroughly lost patience with a fight or wants to end things quickly.

For: Bankai
Name: Primal Swarm
Type: Offensive – lasts for 8 posts (unless mask is removed) with a five-post cooldown
Cost: High
Range: Short to Mid
Description: By selecting this mask, Josk summons the Primal Swarm to the battlefield. The Primal Swarm initially consists of four beings: Kita no jo’o, Azuma no jo’o, Minami no jo’o and Nishi no jo’o. Josk rarely refers to each by name, simply calling them Queens. And much like the queen of a hive, these beings are capable of spawning smaller creatures called Hinadori. This technique is similar to Brood Warrior Kyuu in terms of overall strength, but operates more like Brood Warrior Mamushi in terms of purpose. Hinadori are relatively weak, but are spawned in large numbers to harass and wear down the enemy – there can be anywhere from 8 to 120 Hinadori on the battlefield, though the number is usually around 40 due to the strain larger numbers cause on Josk’s energy. While the Queens remain near Josk and comprise the bulk of this tech’s real strength, the Hinadori viciously attack the enemy until either the enemy is incapacitated/dead or the Hinadori are dead. It’s not particularly hard to kill a Hinadori – usually a single strike will kill one – and a single one’s attack is not particularly harmful. It is their tendency to swarm targets that makes this technique dangerous. Should the Hinadori fail to eliminate the enemy before it reaches the Queens, the Queens themselves are capable of melee attacks similar to Brood Warrior Kyuu.
For: Bankai
Name: Brood Warrior: Kyodai kigyo
Type: Offensive – lasts for 5 posts (unless mask is removed or concentration broken) with a five-post cooldown
Cost: High
Range: Whatever range pleases Kyodai kigyo (which is however far its blades can reach)
Description: By selecting this mask, Josk summons the Brood Warrior Kyodai kigyo to the battlefield. Josk only calls upon Kyodai kigyo when faced with a large group of opponents that can’t be handled by the Primal Swarm or if he’s laying siege to enemy encampments. This is due to Kyodai kigyo’s immense size and strength – it is essentially a living battering ram, possessing an attack and defense equivalent to Josk’s REI stat. With a towering height of 16 feet, it is covered with a thick carapace and attacks primarily with two massive bone scythes that serve as its arms. The blades are half Kyodai kigyo's height, are nearly indestructible and possess a monomolecular edge, allowing it to slice through just about anything. While using Kyodai kigyo, there is very little else that Josk can do, as much of his strength is sapped while summoning it. On the other hand, he rarely ever needs to do anything – Kyodai kigyo generally poses a great enough threat that few choose to ignore it in favor of taking out Josk. This is generally a mistake as even the slightest attack on Josk breaks the concentration required to keep Kyodai kigyo summoned, causing the beast to vanish instantly.
For: Bankai
Name: Heart of the Swarm: Tsurugino’o
Type: Offensive/Defensive/Passive – lasts for six posts with a four-post cooldown.
Cost: High
Range: None
Description: Upon activating Bankai, Brood Warrior Kyuu’s and Brood Warrior Mamushi’s masks transform into those for Primal Swarm and Brood Warrior Kyodai kigyo. When using this technique, however, these masks vanish. In their place, this mask forms over Josk’s face. Once this mask is completely formed, there is a flash of blinding sickly green light. Once the light fades, Josk emerges in a form nearly identical to Chiyo’s. With this form, he has access to Chiyo’s melee attacks.
